The wheezing sound coming from Flenn’s throat right now? Totally a laugh. A surprised, slightly hysterical laugh, but one all the same, thank you very much. “Las criaturas están todas muertas ahora, seguro. Eres una asesina, ¡felicidades!”

Being the very mature person he was, Flenn pouted at the girl as she more or less told him off. “I was just walking by, no need to go all snappy on me! Are there volunteers for random stuff around here anyway?”

She looked over her shoulder, following that with a shrug and-- a laugh? “Well, hey, If Lupin comes running around in a fit, it wasn’t me.”

“Siento, Siento-- I’m not normally the nicest person when woken so suddenly.” Esme apologized, but kept a sharpness in her tone just to keep the other aware. She may be half asleep, but she wasn’t completely unaware. “And of course they do. I don’t know if teachers still do seventh year teacher assistants, but sometimes kids’ll volunteer in the library ‘n stuff. Was never my thing though-- I enjoy having a normal sleep schedule, no como ahora mismo, thank you.”

“Hopefully, because that is my plan of attack,” Lily said with a sigh that was probably a bit overdramatic. “To be fair, I am pretty sure most of the class is following the same tactic as well.”

“I bet-- hell, i’m so glad not to have that class anymore.” There was a brief sound of relief in Esmerelda’s response, but it only faltered as she continued on. “But now i’m stuck with rapid-fire Divintation, and im not gonna lie, it’s been more trouble thank it’s worth.”

At the sight of Esme, a grin slid over Ross’s face, but he was quick to wipe it off and throw on an exaggerated expression of mock-pain. Grabbing at his forearm, he shuffled closer to her as if one of his legs were injured and hissed and groaned for show. 

“Aye, chica, I think you broke my wrist. Ah, it hurts,” he tried to play the part of being injured but his lips were already tugging into a grin and chuckles were cutting through the words. He just couldn’t commit, which was a sign he shouldn’t pursue acting ever. Letting go of the act, he plopped down on the floor next to her and shrugged, “I think everyone’s alright. What about you? Hurt yourself?”

Esme couldn’t help but roll her eyes when she saw his dramatic expression, and the use of Chica, but did so with a small smile. “Oh, get over it Cortez. Your a Beater, i’m sure you’ve had worse.”

“I’m fine-- I mean, I’m hurting my sleep schedule right now, but that seems to be about it.” The Gryffindor responded, stretching her smaller limbs in a comical manner in an attempt to wake herself up a bit more. “Speaking of your Quidditch career, congrats on the last game-- nobody in my house seemed too happy about it, so i’m assuming somebody must’ve fucked up badly.”

Grayson had meant the question as rhetorical considering he had actually woken her up for a reason, wanting to borrow one of her books, but now that she was apologizing and no longer angry with him it seemed a little too late to bring that fact up. Oops. Still, there was nothing wrong with a small lie of omission as long as he went along with it, he was sure. “S’okay,” he said as he stood up again and straightened his back, placing the book back on the table. He tapped the chair beside her with one foot, then smiled. “This seat taken?”

“Not unless you know any other strapping, young Ravenclaw who wants it.”

Esme rand her fingers through her bangs that had been left out of her bun, as if trying to wake herself up-- or prepare for the worst. “Grayson, mi’o--” she started, keeping her forehead in her hand but looking over at the taller of the pair “--If i asked you to kill me so I don’t have to go to Divination next, would you?” She didn’t hate the class, not really, but she really wasn’t in the mindset to listen to some fortune-telling mumbo jumbo right now-- even if she was vaguely aware of how intrigued the other had been in the subject.

Honestly she should have been used to colder weather, but the change of seasons from autumn to winter always left her with a chill.  With her house scarf coiled up so high around her neck Andy kept having to push the thing out of the way so it wouldn’t muffle her speech. Of course, that was nothing compared to the bundle of fabric that would surely engulf the dainty red-head come the true winter weather. Andy’s eyes lit up at the sight of the cat she (affectionately) referred to as “fur-ball,” and she began shuffling things around her person with the full intention of snatching up the feline. “Look, you got the warm blood of the pair of us, I got the wonky sight,” she laughed, “Oh did he? Nah, he probably just wanted to go hunt or something. Maybe he had a date.”

Andy twirled on her heel to fall in step with Esme and head in the direction of nowhere in particular, but she really hoped it would be somewhere warmer. “What are you going to do when you have to spend the holidays in the sunshine instead of snow? I feel like I am going to have a puddle for a friend by the time classes start back up.”

Esme shrugged, almost sighing happily when a cool breeze passed between the two of them, nipping at their noses and cheeks. It’s true, Esme had always been more favor of colder environments-- she’s always said that she’d rather be freezing cold than unbearably hot, having experienced both-- so the months between October and February were naturally some of her more favored ones. That doesn’t mean she cant handle the heat either. A shudder went down Esmes spine, not from the cold, but from the memory of 43.3 C(110 F) degree weather. Her Abuela’s house had no air conditioning at the time either-- “Vas a estar bien , la brisa del mar está justo al lado, No sea un bebé.” -- so for most of that week it had felt like an oven being inside, and being under a  maxed out heating lamp when going outside. Thank god Scotland doesn't get that bad.

“Herm? On a date? Well, I hope they’re cute.”

The Gryffindor walked next to her Hufflepuff companion with a lazy gait, Esme had just been up in the Astronomy tower with a few other kids and Mr. Mason to prep for the meeting tonight, and she still hadn’t been fully awake yet. So the Seventh year found herself in no rush on the way to breakfast that morning, besides, it was still pretty early anyways.

“Hey, hey-- i’ve dealt with the worst heat in the summer and ridiculous cold in the winter, so a little switch up isn’t a bad thing. Sure, maybe the reason for going isnt the best, but I hear wintertime down in the Caribbean is gorgeous. Not too hot, definitely not too cold, i’ll be fine.” Esme paused, briefly thinking about something she probably shouldn’t have. “Probably.”

“What about you? Are you still going to be here in once piece when i get back or will Cortez have you locked arm-in-arm by then?” She teased, turning the conversation back to Andy.

“Oh-- it is that bad.”  Esme sighed, not being the best arithmetic around. She knew people, but good luck getting her to do wizard math.

“Yeah-- honestly it probably is. Thy can at least give you some credit if it looks like you tried, right?

Grayson closed the book slowly so that he wouldn’t be drawn back into reading it and lose concentration again, determinedly fixing his eyes at a spot just beside her head so that he could give the appearance of looking at her without actually having to focus. It sounded like she was angry with him for more than just the wake up call, although he couldn’t think of what. He had been paying attention, he had just lapsed in concentration for a couple seconds, it couldn’t be that hard to just repeat herself. 

“Can’t I talk to you without needing something?”

“I-- oh.” 

Well gee-- this made it awkward.

With a much smaller, less angry, and kind of embarassed tone, she replied “Well, i mean it’d be a first, yo creo, but I don’t mind.”

Great, now she felt like the asshole. But she wasn’t wrong when she said this was a first-- because, well, it kinda was? Normally whenever he was around comebacks and sometimes objects tended to fly between the two-- it’s not often that they actually sat down and just, like, hung out. Not to mention the book thing kind of had her on guard for the worst. But she doesn’t see the harm in having him over, as long as he wasn’t going to mess with her like normal. Or, not right now anyway. Give her a half n hour and she’d be fully here to go at it.

“Sorry--” Esme felt it was needed to be said, since she did snap at him. “-- for the, uh, snapping.”
