Guidelines for transferring from community to a four year college
Community colleges help provide equal opportunity to every underprivileged student by providing professional degree courses for cheaper tuition fees. Every once in a while a student comes along who has the potential for studying at the highest level but for some misfortune could not get admission in professional colleges due to low scores at SAT's or some other reasons. For such promising students, professional colleges hold tests every semester so these students can have the opportunity to explore themselves at a bigger level. For transferring from a community college to an elite four year college here are some things you must keep in mind.
Firstly and most importantly, you must maintain your grades and GPA. You must score at least an A or a GPA of 3.8 in every subject as elite universities only admit the brightest students on a limited number of seats. For transferring only 4 to 5 percent of the applicants are selected by the elite colleges.
Secondly, you should pick your subjects more carefully. Don't select subjects just to fill your schedule but pick them according to the field that you intend to study at the college that you intend to be transferred to. And maintain your GPA or grade throughout.
Thirdly, do your research about the college and explore the different fields that they are offering and their admission criterion and results as to have an idea of the challenge that their studies offer. The more challenging their courses the better the student you will be.
Fourth, you should take language courses as well, as elite colleges prefer students who have an understanding of different languages.
Fifth, you will need to purchase an application form from the college that you wish to transfer to. And fill it and follow the instructions as it may be required for you to write an essay about yourself explaining why you chose that college and why that college should accept you.
Sixth, every elite college looks for confidence, self awareness and strong leadership qualities in their students so you would be advised to take part in speech competitions and take up a part time job to build your self-confidence.
