Silver awkwardly chuckled. “…Oh man.” He said as he tried to think of how to respond. “He’s a great friend. He’s really nice most of the time and he’s got a great smile. He is really smart, too and I learn a lot from him. His good qualities are a lot like yours actually, Blaze.” He smiled.

"He can drive me crazy sometimes too. He can be um…sarcastic sometimes and that can sting. But he never means to hurt me and I think he’s working on it. But he’s also depressed. Like, all the time. He doesn’t think very highly of himself and that bothers me. He’s been through a lot, so it kinda makes sense, but it really worries me.

"He’s gotta good mix of both good and bad qualities I think. I’ve known him for a year now. But actually, he seems to have gotten a lot better about his mood lately. That excites me!"

"…Why is it so confusing?" He huffed. 

"But you’r right. As always. I gotta do this myself. Though it would be a lot easier if you could tell me what to do." He smiled, half joking. He took the feline in for another hug. 

"Thanks, Blaze. You’re a real friend. You know that?"

Blaze patted his head again, allowing for a smile to grace her features.

"Romance is a confusing subject, Silver. You are a wonderful friend as well, and I am very lucky to have you. But while we are on the subject. Why don't you tell me about this man who seems to have stolen your heart?"

"I really am trying to get better about that, Blaze. …But thanks.

"…I — I don’t remember his exact wording, no…but-" He sighed heavily, obviously distressed. "…Do you think kissing him would be better than talking to him about it?"

"It's a process, Silver. It takes time. Surround yourself with people who make you see your body is beautiful, no matter how it looks.

That is up to you. It would make a bold statement, and it may qualm his fears. Is he one who enjoys physical affection? It's also a risk. Talking would certainly be a good option as well. I'm afraid I can't tell you what choice to make, Silver. You'll have to figure this one out yourself."

His ears twitched at the questions and he thought them over for a moment, trying to answer each one. “…Yes…Yeah…Mhmm…He tries to. And for the most part I don’t feel weird about my stomach around him, so yeah…I think he does.

"And yeah, I can. He says he really appreciates me and I can totally be myself around him." He answered.

But then his eyes widened. “But Blaze! Does it even matter? I heard him say he’s not interested in romance! Wouldn’t a kiss be like…um…disrespectful? I mean, on the lips anyway. I kiss him on the forehead and he’s fine but…

"…Wouldn’t that be really bad?”

"If you can answer yes to all of those questions, Silver, after thinking very hard on it, then I believe he may be worth pursuing. But Silver, you should not feel weird about your appearance at all. I would suggest you work on your body image. You are still a handsome young man, heavy, or light.

Did he outright say he is not interested? What were his exact words? You could be fabricating all of that in your head. Is it not possible he is simply afraid? Think carefully on it. A kiss at the right time could completely change his opinion, if it is only fear that commands his words. Fear is a powerful feeling."

Silver slid his hands down his face again. This made him upset. He didn’t think he had felt feelings like that for Ray, but suddenly it seemed like he did. It kinda made sense, considering how he reacted to everything. But at the same time…

Ray could drive him crazy, but Ray made him feel special. There were things about Ray that made Silver angry, but more often then not, Ray made Silver happy.

" — I’m — I’m not so sure." He said, sitting down on the ground. "It’s just confusing. I didn’t think I did like Ray that way…but maybe I do. Is that okay? Or is it really bad? Since, you know, he doesn’t want romance.

"…Should I say something to him? Just to get it off my chest? And like tell him that I know he’s not interested in romance but maybe that’s how I feel and I just —

"…Do you know what to do?"

He was asking for romance advice. Blaze understood feelings, to an extent. She was numb to her own the majority of the time, but she still understood them, and their meanings. It was important to understand how to control your feelings, so that you could use them to your benefit. But romantic feeling, that was one she didn't understand.

"The first thing I will say, is that it's okay to have feelings for someone. It's always okay to feel, Silver. But you have to be able to control your emotions. When someone fails to control their emotions, that's when they turn bad. Even anger is natural. It is only a bad feeling when someone cannot control it, and hurt someone.

Think very hard on it Silver. Is he someone you would trust with yourself? With anything you feel, both good, and bad? Someone you feel comfortable with? Does he make your insecurities go away? Does he bring out the best in you? Those are the questions I believe I would ask myself. I suppose the best question of all is, can you be yourself in every single aspect?

I have heard that being spontaneous is better received, such as a surprise kiss during a particularly emotional moment."

His ears lowered a little bit as Blaze raised her voice, but it wasn’t something he wasn’t used to hearing by now. After she finished, he gave her a soft smile. “That means more to me than I could tell you.” And he meant that.

But then his stomach knotted up. “…Does-Doesn’t jealous mean like, you want something that someone else has? Like…so if I was jealous…it means I wanted something I thought the other person had…which…was my friend…”

His eyes widened for a moment, but he looked at Blaze and shook his head rapidly. “Ha. Ha ha ha ha. HA HA HA HA.

"That can’t be it."

"I'm glad I could help."

Blaze had no physical preference. She was thin because that's how she ended up with her lifestyle choices. If her choices had made her heavier, she would have been the same guardian she always was. It was nothing but appearance, which didn't matter. Admittedly, Silver was really cute with all that pudge, but it certainly had no effect on her opinion.

"Yes, that is jealousy. To be irrationally bothered by what someone has, because you wish it were you who had it instead. So basically, you wished it was you whom your friend claimed to be dating. It would make sense that you feel a similar way if he expressed no interest in romance. It would mean you could never get what you truly wanted, and that would, to a degree, hurt."

Her eyebrow raised. "What makes you so sure that I am incorrect?"

Silver couldn’t help but laugh when Blaze did that. It was kinda funny trying to watch her make up for making him a bit aggravated. He just made her stop and hugged her instead. “It’s okay.” He said, letting go.

But his smile disappeared rather quickly.

"…Yeah. That sounds about right. I mean, maybe not angry, but upset. And then I ate a giant cake because it made me feel better.

"…I don’t need comments on that last bit."

"I am going to make my feelings on that known right this moment.

I don't care, Silver. You can be the size of a hippopotamus and I won't care. As long as you're healthy, I don't care what you look like. I care about who you are, and that hasn't changed. If eating makes things easier on you, that's okay. The fact you were able to feel better is what I care about."

She huffed, having finally gotten that off her chest.

"Now.

What you were feeling is easy to categorize. Upset, scared, sad, all at once.

You were feeling jealousy."

Cue the hedgehog sliding his hands down his face. “I know. I’m large. Let’s move on.” He huffed.

"Do you know anything about like… feeling weird when your friend brings up — Okay that sounds weird.

"The other day I thought my friend Ray was dating someone and I felt really weird and I didn’t know why. Like, I was happy for him, but I was feeling anxious. He wasn’t dating anyone by the way.

"And then he was talking about not even being interested in like romance. I mean, that’s what it sounded like. So now I’m feeling weird again.

"…Is something wrong with me?"

"Yes. You are. It's um... soft?"

And now she starts awkwardly rubbing it, and trying to smile, but it's pretty obvious she has no clue what she's doing.

"No, I don't think something is wrong with you. Anxious? Was it an overwhelming sensation in your chest? Feeling scared, sad, and angry, all rolled into one, and all because you were given reason to believe your friend was dating someone?"

"Thanks for forgiving me. You’re an amazing friend and more than I could have ever wished for.

"Though, now you’re driving me crazy. Yes. I know. Everyone and their brother points it out. I’m the size of a bowling ball. Not that I know what a bowling ball does, but it’s a big ball I know that.

"That’s not why I’m here taking to you."

"...Maybe a little bigger than a bowling ball."

"Not that you look bad or anything. Ah... what are you here to talk about then?"

"I’m saying sorry because I didn’t come to talk to you before I needed you. I didn’t put any effort towards that. And that’s being a really rotten friend. And I feel bad for that. I’m sorry.

"Blaze, I’m not here to talk about my weiighht.”

"I understand, and I forgive you. I'm sure you were busy with something. We all have our own circumstances, Silver. You have more responsibilities than most your age.

Silver, you're two times larger than you were the last time I saw you."

"There you are! First - I’ve missed you like crazy!" He said that with a smile and hugged the feline tightly. "How have you been?"

"Second, I feel totally bad coming to you just because I need to talk, but I really need to talk. I won’t ever do this again. I’m sorry."

"Silver, why are you apologizing?" A hand rose to stroke his quills. "Have I not told you I was always available should you need me? I am honored that I am who you come to because you need to talk.

...When I told you to grow up big, and strong, this wasn't quite what I had in mind."

He couldn’t help himself. He quickly hugged the feline, letting go after a quick moment and he turned around.

"It was nice to meet you too, Blaze!"

Her eyes widened at the sudden contact. After spending so much time with her own Silver, she was sort of used to things like that.

"Take care."

"Thanks!" He said, sticking a thumb up and winking at her. "You’re really awesome too!" His grin died down a little, but it still was wide and pleasant.

"I’ll make it a point to come find you after I find my next time zone. Maybe we can share adventure stories or something?"

"It sounds wonderful." Blaze rather enjoyed stories, regardless of what kind they were. It was why she used to read so much to her own Silver, so very long ago, before traveling back in time.

"It was lovely meeting you."

…Wow. He was right. He knew he would be, but her smile kind of…wasn’t what he was expecting. It was small; not as big as he had hoped to see, but it was there. And it was really pretty. 

So he nodded at her, his own grin widening further if that was even possible. “Mmhmm. I was so right.” He chuckled. “You have a really great smile, Blaze.”

He scratched his neck real quick. “I know we’re both super busy, so even if we really don’t have a chance to become friends, I do really hope we get to see each other another time.” He told her.

"Thanks for smiling for me."

By the sounds of things, this Silver was much more work oriented than her own Silver. She wasn't entirely sure what it was her Silver did all day. All she knew was that he was staying with someone, someone she had yet to even meet. Blaze chose not to acknowledge the thank you, because she still considered it to be unfounded.

"I would hold no objection to that." She said, folding her arms against her chest. "It would be lovely to see you again another time. You are a pleasant soul to be around." Her shoulders shrugged lightly. "Hopefully sooner, than later."

He allowed her hand to stay there under his chin, thinking nothing of it. He immediately did smile when she said that, though. Because she was right. It was a reason to smile. A really good one too.

"Then you should smile too." He said back. "Just a little one? That way I can go around and think that I was right. Because you have to have a good smile." He said, grinning now, from ear to ear.

Everyone had a pretty smile.

"Smiling to other people makes them feel good. You can go around and see someone who had such a bad day and sometimes you can just smile at them. You may not turn their day around, but you can make them feel a little better. Smiling is really good, don’t you think?"

Another person's well being was rarely her concern. An entire dimension, yes, and now, an entire world, but an individual person? No, not for anyone other than her Silver. Even now, she wasn't the greatest at cheering him up. She tried to instill some of her own qualities in him, which seemed to backfire more often than anything else.

Maybe she was better off letting him be his own person. She certainly did appreciate him for who he was. It never failed to astound her how he remained happy, even in that hell of a world.

So she gave in. A light smile did curl across her features. "There." She commented. "Are you satisfied now?"

…He didn’t like to here that. She seemed so nice and even if she didn’t smile, she seemed really warm. And Silver didn’t really have anyone right now. He had been traveling so much that he didn’t have time to really make friends. He thought that maybe, now that he would be here until he found the time stones, he would have a chance.

…He guessed not.

"Oh, well…I can understand that." He said. He was obviously disappointed, but he tried really hard not to be. "I hope life settles down for you soon. I know being busy can be hard. And I… really hope you find reasons to smile, Blaze. I’m sure you have a pretty one."

She never understood that. Why others felt so downhearted when she refrained from smiling. It wasn't that she didn't want to, it was that she didn't really see a need for it. Blaze was the kind of woman who did what needed to be done. Who didn't take time for optional things, such as smiling.

A hand rested on the hedgehog's shoulder. "Please, don't look that way." She honestly hadn't meant to make him feel bad. Her own Silver wasn't terribly good at hiding emotions, and it looked as though this one wasn't much different. "My life will be what I make of it." The same instincts that kicked in when dealing with her own Silver made themselves apparent. She lifted his face up, her hand just under his chin.

"The sun is shining. Is that not reason for you to smile?"

"Oh really? Well, I mean. If you get a chance to know me, you might think differently. I can be quite the cheerful guy." He smiled wide. 

"I like food too, haha. But I guess not as much as he does."

He turned his head too and thought for a moment. There had to be someway to get her to smile…

"Well sure, you do." He said. "I mean, everyone has a reason to smile. It sounds like your good friends with that other Silver, right? That’s a reason to smile. You’re pretty! That’s a reason to smile! And you’ve met someone who wants to be your friend." He said, pointing at himself.

"That’s another reason to smile!"

"You are certainly more upbeat than the average being I come across. Moderation is the key to everything. He likely would not look that way if he exercised. But it is his body, and so long as he is healthy, I have no issues. His happiness is what matters to me, and he is happy."

Her eyebrow raised at his reasons to smile. Those were positive points, but it didn't constitute smiling. Not in her eyes, anyway.

"For my closest friend to be happy is one of my responsibilities. My outward appearance should not matter in the slightest, and while it's... cute that you want to be my friend, I would suggest finding someone else. I am much too busy for such relationships."
