Introduction....
This blog is meant to be a creative cathartic; beautiful, sensual, artistic, thoughtful, reflective, vulnerable and encouraging. To celebrate wellness - health, fitness, sex, positive energy. My intention is that anyone who struggles with sexuality, shame and guilt, religious baggage, feelings of wrongness, frustration, loneliness - can appreciate and resonate with things I write, create and/or share. ------------------
Sexual Shame
A deeply rooted feeling of wrongness for our natural sexual desires, fantasies, and/or acts.
When shame shows up, we can feel a sense of needing to hide, to pull away, to embarrassment, to apologize, to push down the things we feel wrong about. "Why am I turned on by that [sex act] - is something wrong with me?" "I don't want anyone to see my body." "I'm a virgin/not a virgin." "I shouldn't be fantasizing about that person/thing/desire". Remember, we are not born feeling shame. Rather, we learn through words, corrections, and messaging that we should feel ashamed. The sources are many; from parenting, family dynamics, belief systems, traumatic or negative sexual experiences, damaged self-esteem, body image, and more. Be curious and acknowledge when it shows up. It's helpful to face it - and challenge it with curiosity. Where did this inner voice come from?
