In Telim, magic is a wide, and extremely varied subject of scrutiny. Perhaps the most widely seen is the magical powers discovered among the children of mixed blood parents. In this case, mixed blood refers to the child of a human and a magical creature. In these cases, the magic of an individual can manifest in one of two ways: A wizard, or a psionic talent.
A wizard casts magic using spells they have learned through their travels, or from an institute of magical learning. Collected in a tome, scroll, book, or some other item they carry on their person, these spells require regular study so the wizard doesn't make a mistake when casting. These kind of castings are a series of memorized words, imbued with an effort of will to enact magic upon the world. Wizards are bound to an element when they come into their powers, and they are all but completely restricted to this element. While a few spells from the other elements may be learned, they are all of very low power, and very few in number.
A psionic talent is a mental ability that the magic user is born with. Only one will manifest in each psionic, and it is impossible for such a caster to have more than one ability. This is an instinctual ability controlled by a conscious effort of their mind. Powers in this vein include such abilities as telekinesis, pyrokinesis, astral projection, empathy, and others.
