Tara and Judith ā„ 7x12
Itās dark here. The halls echo with her footsteps, and she wonders if everyone can hear her. If they know exactly where sheās headed. The stones are cold beneath her bare feet but they felt nice, like a popsicle on a sweltering day. Her breaths are quick, pushed from her lungs like someone is giving her chest compressions. With every step, the pressure decreases like it was letting her know she was getting closer to him.Ā
Laying her palm flat on the centuries old wooden door, she feels him. Heās awake too.Ā
The door gives when she tries the doorknob, and sheās surprised because she figured heād lock it. They were in strange territory, even if it were relative to their past. Swallowing hard, she slips in and closes the door behind her before anyone catches her.Ā
Their eyes meet, and itās clear sheās been burning up for awhile.
āTell me you feel it too,ā she whimpers, legs trembling as scales appear like sunbursts across her limbs. Swirling in and in, until they seem to meet in her core. She lifts up her shirt to show him, they glitter in the firelight. āTell me.ā
defiantabyss:
Freddy stretches his hands out for her and nods,Ā āIt will be all right, cāmon.ā He feels like he knows what she needs and heād be lying if he said he didnāt need it too. Contact with someone other than the monster holding them hostage.
āHeās not a good man, Cadi. I donāt think you should be his friend.ā That monster didnāt need a friend, he needed a therapist and a prison cell. When sheās finally within his reach, Freddy wiggles his fingers but doesnāt initiate contact for her sake. He nods again to give her confidence in him and herself,Ā āI think I need a hug from a friend, will you grant an old man that wish?ā
Arcadia was good at making friends, she was always kind and she liked to make people laugh. Why shouldnāt she make this man her friend? Maybe then he wouldnāt be so angry. She looks at his outstretched hand for a second and hesitantly takes it. The energy crackling around her fingers is visible, sparks igniting at every brush of their skin. She didnāt know why she was this way, it scared her.
āI can hold your hand for now,ā she whispers, scooting a little closer. She sits on the floor and holds onto his hand. A couple minutes of silence pass as she stares at the door, waiting for the killer to walk in again. Hopefully in a better mood. It doesnāt take long before sheās slumping into his side, the sleepy way children do. Itās hard to keep her eyes open, she hasnāt slept in days.
defiantabyss:
The smiles fade and heās lowering his hands to place them on his knees. It dawns on him that she isnāt afraid of him and that hurts even worse. He raises his hands and scratches his eyebrow before putting his smile back on,Ā āCadi, itāll be okay. You canāt hurt me any worse than he has, I trust you. I believe you.ā
Offering his hand out again, he waits for her to come to him if she wants. He wishes he could keep her safe, but wishing for it to be true wonāt make it happen. Hope was the only thing they had left, hope that someone would be looking for her. Freddy knows theyāre out there somewhere knocking on doors or breaking them in to find her because he would be too if he was her father.
āHas he been hurting you, Cadi? Are you doing all right despite everything?ā Freddy wants to be her friend in this. He wants to help her at least feel a little less scared until they find her.
Arcadia eyes his hand like more than anything, she wants to hold it. She missed her parents, and she could use a bear hug like the ones her Papa gave her. Or a tender kiss on her forehead the way her Mami kissed her. Sniffling some more, she shakes her head.Ā āHe doesnāt hurt me, heās just... mean.ā
Really mean. She tries to be nice to him, the sweetest girl she can be. Nothing works, and he always get so mad. Why was he so mad? If she read his mind then... No, Papa said it was rude to do that. Inching forward, she considers taking Freddyās hand. If she concentrates real hard, then maybe she wonāt hurt him.Ā āIām trying to be his friend.ā
we built this house;
Once, when Cadi was just a little girl, sheād been watching the cook in the kitchen. He was frantically picking out pieces of fried chicken, nearly burnt to a crisp, from the fry pan. Across the room from them was the second oven, each shelf fitted with a tray full of potatoes. In the chefās head, she could hear him say words Papa would smack her on the bottom for saying so she tried to block those out. But she caught the drift, soon the potatoes would burn too.
So being the good girl she was, she slid off the table and walked over to the oven. Quiet as a mouse, she pulled open the door and reached in. Bare handed. The yell she heard wasnāt her own, but the chef who had finally turned around and saw the small child elbow deep inside the oven. Unbothered, sheād pulled out the first tray she could grab and turned to smile at him. It hadnāt hurt until she saw his face, and thatās when it hit her. Like her body suddenly remembered, or forgot. Heat, licking up her arms and making her scream something horrible.
In her dreams, the fire didnāt hurt like that. It licked her skin, much like he did. It crawled up her belly as he pushed up her shirt and left glitter in its wake. He didnāt seem to mind it either, tan hands spreading over her flaming skin like he wanted to be stuck to her. Heās sweating though, some of it pooling in the cupidās bow of his upper lip. She licks it, pants into his mouth as his hips find their mark and suddenly sheās full of him. And their eyes meet.
Chocolate, pure deep chocolate. Like hers.
Shooting up in bed, she feels her lungs working overtime. Burning in a way her skin hadnāt. Grabbing onto her sheets, she pulls them up over her chest like sheās still naked. As if heās actually here to see her.
Nico?
defiantabyss:
Her voice is so sweet, his heart breaks for her every second sheās in this house. Freddy wishes desperately that he could break out of his chains, but he already knows from experience he canāt. Freddy raises his hand to wave and his chains rustle behind him, he hopes it wonāt frighten her too much. He smiles and tries his best to get into the light as much as he can for her.
āMay I call you Cadi, too?ā he kneels down to her level and the chains on his hands pool under him.Ā āOh no! No, no.ā he chuckles and shows a welcoming smile, āI promise I wonāt bite cha.ā He quickly looks her over for any marks, bruises or otherwise, as he beckons her closer. Nothing is visible on her bare skin and heās a little grateful,Ā āYouāll be okay, Cadi. I know there are people looking for ya.ā
Cadi lets herself smile back, his was infectious it seemed. That is until he gets closer and sheās slowly inching back, folding her hands behind her back so that he couldnāt possibly touch her bare skin.
āYou can call me Cadi,ā she says quickly,Ā āJust be careful.ā Shifting from foot to foot, she tries to find the words to express why. Her parents didnāt know about her powers until recently, sheād been good at hiding them. This man, though, somehow he knew how to make them stronger. And now Cadi didnāt know how to make it stop.Ā āYou shouldnāt touch me, I could hurt you.ā
Heād already made her hurt some people. It felt like the energy was buzzing off of her skin, like it wanted to hurt more. Tears fill her eyes again, and the look she gives Freddy is genuine fear.Ā āI donāt want to hurt you, I promise. Iām a good girl.ā
defiantabyss:
The man wasnāt kind. Freddy often wondered what happened to cause the man to hurtĀ āothersā as often as he did. Freddy had seen the man destroy magic, extinguish energy that shouldnāt be so easily destroyed by a human. It was strange that such a fragile creature had so much power over him. What kind of experiments had he done on his previous victims, how long would he keep Freddy alive?
If only the damn chains would break, how did they even work? Such measly metal should be able to snap, but instead they kept him confined to a corner until the man wanted his blood again. After nearly a year, Freddy was ready to just give up. That is, until the man brought her home.
A few nights had gone by, then more. Freddy could smell her and saw her a few times, but then he couldnāt speak. Heād been drained and had no strength to comfort her. Now though, now they could finally make acquaintance. āIām here⦠my nameās Freddy.ā he tried to sound cheerful, maybe it would help her feel a little more comfortable,Ā āWhatās your name, sweet girl?ā
Freddy. She feels a smile tug at the corner of her lips. It sounded like a cartoon characterās name. Like someone nice, that she could trust. Standing up slowly, she tiptoed into the light so he could see her better.Ā āIām Arcadia.ā
āBut my family,ā she continues quietly,Ā āthey call me Cadi.ā She preferred it anyway, Arcadia sounded too...epic. Wiping the tears from her face with her dirty jacket sleeve, she steps a little closer to get a better look at him. Heās still mostly shrouded in darkness but she can make out his eyes. Kind eyes.Ā āYou.. donāt bite, do you?ā
Weigh each otherās sack a little, you know?
Do me a favor. Nico should have known better than to do Atlas a favor, every time he said those words something bad was bound to happen. Sure, this wasnāt exactly his fault, but those damn words never fail. Nicoās fingers are tapping the side door as he stares out waiting for Atlas to show up so they can leave. Three more minutes and Nico will be charging head first into the mess so he can save his brother.
Bella hates being caged up, but Nico is afraid heāll lose her if he doesnāt keep her locked her up. The dogās incessant crying is breaking his heart, but the storm outside is much worse. He looks at his wrist communicator and the clock seems to be unable to settle on a solid number, even the date is way out of whack. Figures.
āPuck, watch for him. As soon as heās on, tell me and Iāll punch the throttle.ā They canāt stay here anymore. Atlas will show, he knows it. They all went through the same hardship; they were all invincible because of it. Finally he hears the sound of metal scrapping against metal and Nico doesnāt need to be told twice that Atlas is on board.
Corra. His heart feels like itās frozen. āPuck, fly the ship.ā he commands and shoots up from the pilotās chair. When he finally focuses on her, he canāt believe itās really her. Atlas looks at Nico like heās insane, but runs to the co-pilotās chair to help Puck.
āArcadia?ā He feels like he can pause for the first time in years, like he doesnāt need to move anymore because the person he had been running for was standing in front of him.
There he was, just as sheād imagined for years and years. Every night, she dreamed of returning to him, and she always came up with something so powerful to say. Something that would make him smile. And yet, she canāt help the burn of betrayal she feels in her chest. All of a sudden it is all she can think about, night after night of waiting.Ā
Maybe he did look for her, maybe he had tried but if he really meant to find her... Nico could do anything he wanted to. Yet he was here, flying around with this girl he didnāt even know and who was suddenly something so precious in his life. Someone he was destined to love more than any other, more than her.Ā
āYeah,ā she says numbly, the disappointment hurting more than anything sheās felt before.Ā āHi Nico.ā As the ship takes off, she nearly falls over but she manages to grab onto the wall beside her.Ā
It isnāt a scary house. It isnāt dark, or dirty. Nothing outright frightening or worrying. Nothing sheād expect from a guy who forced her to crush someoneās mind like a dandelion.
Crying softly to herself as not to anger him, she pushes her small body closer to the wall as he puts his jacket on. Cadi wonders what he does when he leaves the house, is he finding new victims? Sniffling, she feels her muscles ease as the door clicks shut behind him. It isnāt as hard when he isnāt here, she can pretend sheās just lost.
Looking into the dark corner across from her, her eyes search for the vampire. Heās quiet, kind. Watching her the way her Papa does. āAre you there?ā she whispers, as if the other man is still home. āI donāt want to be alone.ā
In my dream we were lovers We sold our secrets to the stars And in between our kisses Careless words created scars (x)
In hindsight, maybe it was a good thing that Cadi ratted him out to the Witch's Council. When Clara and Ariella had come to the school, it took her days to agree to their request. This girl he was with, Puck, she was supposed to be the Phoenix. And her brother, the reincarnation of the one and only Noah Hopkins. She hadn't believed them at first, no matter how special she thought Nico was. But then she saw him, in a dream, the way her prophecies came.
They were climbing up the bank again. Except they were older, and the man holding her hand was bulky in place of Nico's lean muscle. She watched him just as clearly as she had the day it actually happened, but when he swung her onto his back the hair that flew in front of her face... Red as fire.
Blinking hard, she shakes the memory from her head and tries to keep up with Atlas. It'd been years since she'd seen him too, he hadn't recognized her. She wasn't offended, she was different. Everything was different. Grabbing onto his outstretched hand as they vaulted onto the platform of Port Hoster, she tries to ignore the pounding feet behind them. Coming for them, for her. The shuttle they hurry towards looks like home.
Stumbling into the open door, she hears a gasp from the girl, Puck. But her eyes are on him. Would he recognize her?
"Nico," she breathes, heart pounding. "Corra."
āYouāre not skinny enough, youāre not pretty enoughā all these crazy things. I was just like, āFuck that!ā Iām going to continue to work hard. I didnāt wait around for jobs. I produced things, I directed shorts, I wrote shorts, I was always doing something creative in the art field and it 360ād and the universe rewarded me, which really nice.

āAdiós amor.ā Nico whispers as the door slides shut behind her. He turns and shoves everything off his desk in a fit of rage. Unable to calm down, he picks up his mattress and flips it off the bed. Nico screams and falls to his knees before he canāt think straight anymore.
Tears finally break free from his eyes, but heās not making any noise anymore. She wasnāt even gone yet and he felt like he would never see her again. Well, thereās no way heās allowing that to happen.
Arcadia keeps her head held high as she steps onto the loading dock. She can feel eyes on her, wary and alert. Scanning for any signs of her going off like a bomb. It does occur to her, how she can wipe their minds in just a second. All of them. She could make them brain dead for doing this to her. But she wouldn't, that wasn't who she was.
Just for a moment, she closes her eyes and takes it in. The smells and the sounds of her home. She'll be back, she knows it in the way that she knows things. How long? There was no telling, but she'd be back. With confidence, she steps into the shuttle and feels a smile spread on her lips. Here goes everything.
