pairing - fearless!taylor swift x brand new eyes! hayley williams
tags - 1.4k words, cursing, domestic shit, taylor is absolutely fucking whipped, set in 2009, third person pov, lots of internal dialogue, set in hayley's 21st birthday, lesbians going at it heavily implied. title from sparks fly by ts
Taylor was entranced. Her eyes following Hayley as she danced around the room to the loud music. This wasn't really Taylor's scene, her baby pink shirt contrasting with the dark clothes and old sneakers from Hayley's friends. She had felt really confident about her hair when she came out her house, but seeing the dyed and stylized hair of the attendees, she couldn't help but feel that her blonde curls were somewhat boring.
But she didn't do this for herself, she clearly wasn't one for partying- at least not the way Paramore did. Their shared booth at the skate rink smelled like alcohol, candy and sweat and Taylor was both disgusted and intrigued. But she was only there to support a friend, Hayley said she wanted her on her birthday party and she couldn't say no to those stupid puppy eyes. Once they sang happy birthday and served the cake she would go home and watch some law and order. She panicked internally at the nightmare scenario of there not being a cake-she didn't have a lot of friends near her age, maybe 21 is too old to have a cake, maybe it's immature, oh no-
"Hey! C'mon Tay, let's dance!" Hayley blurts over the music as she took Taylor's hand and dragged her to her feet.
She quietly obeyed and danced awkwardly, this place felt weird, way more crowded than it should be. She didn't belong here, she was way too sober for this, she couldn't even legally drink yet! What would her mom say when she came home smelling like cheap alcohol and Hayley's drugstore perfume?
"Loosen up a little, Tay! No one gives a shit!" She reassures happily, as if Taylor didn't feel like being swallowed by the ground.
"I'm trying!" She waved her arms around to accentuate her words.
"Let's get you a drink!" At that, Taylor froze, retreating herself like a scared cat.
"I-I can't drink,"
"Well, let's get you a soda or something, you have been sitting in the same chair since you came here!" She said dragging Taylor to the kitchen, filled with a worrying amount of alcohol.
"Well, it was comfortable!"
"Yeah, whatever you say, blondie," The music was sorta quieter now that they had left the center of the party, she felt her face blushing at the nickname and kicked herself internally. "They got slushies, do you want a slushie?!" She asked excitedly as she turned around.
They had met a couple of months ago, her mom had set them up after she saw Hayley at a grammy's party on February. They hadn't really spoken since then, had occasionally gone to the mall or to have dinner at the Swift's house. But never really somewhere they were alone. They had eachother's number, texted and called when they were both in town. But Taylor rarely initiated the conversations, Hayley was just so cool, with her orange hair and her rock band and her friends didn't even seem real. She felt a little embarrassed that her mom had to set them up to be friends, she wondered if she would have even just looked at her without her mom's encouragement.
"There you go," The shorter girl handed her a slushie. "I bet you're gonna like this one"
"What flavor is it?"
"I don't know, blue?" She shrugged.
"How could I forget my favorite flavor, blue!" Taylor said as she took a sip from her cup, the words came out in more of a bitter tone. This is why you don't have friends, she thought.
"Great color, great flavor. Unlike purple!" The blonde girl frowned at that. A part of her expected to be called a bitch for some stupid reason, not this purple slander.
"But purple is a nice color!"
"Yeah, but an awful flavor. All purple things taste the same and they always say they taste like grape. I've had grapes, they do not taste like that!"
"Then what do they taste like?"
"Like purple," She stated matter-of-factly. Taylor laughed at her defense.
Of all places she thought she would be today, the kitchen of some skate rink drinking a slushie and discussing meaningless stuff with Hayley would have never been in her mind. This place was weird, but she liked it that way. She didn't belong here, but who cares! Hayley wanted her here, that's all that mattered. There wasn't any other place she'd rather be.
She had fun, danced, did an awful karaoke rendition of a Dolly Parton song, had a worryingly amount of slushies to make up for the lack of alcohol. Had tons of meaningful conversations with drunk guys with eyeliner, her song was played through the speakers at some point and she danced so hard she was sure she elbowed more than one person.
She was now naked.
And she couldn't be more aware of that fact as she was now. The sheets felt foreign against her bare skin, every little movement she did only heightened that weird feeling of awkwardness that sat deep in her chest since she woke up. She pulled the covers tightly over her, trying to protect herself in a childlike manner. What was she even trying to protect herself from? She knew it wasn't from Hayley, who laid deeply asleep next to her. Maybe from shame, or embarrassment, or that tiny voice inside her brain that told her that she wasn't good enough for anyone's attention, let alone Hayley's... yeah, maybe it was just shame.
She looked to her side and saw her still asleep. She looked like a mess, her mascara smeared from drunken cries that made Taylor panic at the moment, her orange hair going in every direction imaginable and she had glitter all over her face from God knows where. And in top of all of that, she still managed to look as pretty as ever.
Of all people this could have happened with, it had been her, and she couldn't even blame it on a drunken mistake as people often did on tv. They were both sober, they were both fully consenting adults. But it still felt a little bit wrong.
But my God, it had felt so right.
She could have swore she was in heaven when their lips touched, and when Hayley touched her... she almost died on the spot. Was it wrong? A sin? She didn't care. She always thought that exposing herself in that way, being so vulnerable not only to herself but to someone else's eyes would feel weird, even humiliating. but it had felt so natural, as if it was meant to be.
Who cares if it's wrong? She had never felt so good in her life.
She turned around and wrapped her arms loosely around Hayley. Resting her head over her chest as her hands softly traced abstract patterns over her bare skin, trying to memorize every piece of her she could in this moment.
Who knows, maybe this is how she was meant to spend her life. Maybe wasting all that time with Joe had been worthy, she would go through all of that again if it meant she got to be like this again. With a girl who liked her, who called her in the morning while making breakfast, who invited her over if she was in town.
She got up begrudgingly and made her way around the room, fishing for her clothes that sat over the floor. As she covered herself she made her mind on today's plans, she should make breakfast; some waffles and definitely some coffee. She would wake Hayley with breakfast in bed then they'll probably spend all day mindlessly watching tv, or maybe going to the mall, or they could go to the park to read on the benches or even use the slides and swings. Today was going to be a good day, she was sure of it.
As she made her way around Hayley's kitchen-trying to memorize the kitchen for future occasions, she took a moment to let her thoughts take over her mind.
She wasn't confused, should she be? Everything just felt so comfortable it was just slightly overwhelming. But she found herself liking that feeling, all because she knew Hayley was the cause of it. This had become a normal occurrence, everything she had ever felt familiar with had held a hidden meaning that she had never thought of. The girl who she was now waking up with breakfast in bed had singlehandedly redefined every thing Taylor had ever thought she knew.
Going to the mall for overpriced coffee had never been so exciting.
