Motivated by what he saw as a lack of characters he felt he could identify with and the stereotyping of gay men in the music industry, Brian Patrick Davis wrote “Songs About Boys” (published by Archway Publishing), revealing the entertainment industry through the eyes of Sidney McKenna, an aspiring, gay songwriter. Twenty-four-year-old Sidney is a hopeless romantic with an appetite for independence. “There hasn’t really been someone to write any contemporary, African American LGBT fiction since E. Lynn Harris,” Davis says, “and I think that it’s imperative to have more up-to-date, younger, more fresh stories told.” Brian Patrick Davis is a full-time artist and admitted nerd with over 10 years of experience as a journalist and a creative director in the music industry. His writing is inspired by his desire to be a voice for anyone misrepresented by current portrayals in media. One of our first projects saw us as the conceptual force behind an Atlanta based girl group known as “The Yes Ma’ams;” each girl respectively sainted with her own heightened, larger than life persona.
