the silence that once flooded the air is broken when Ethan's lips part.⠀ “⠀I've met some interesting people, so nothing surprises me anymore.⠀”⠀ a nod is given at his own words, a smile placing itself upon his features.⠀it is meant to be reassuring.⠀Ethan certainly hopes that it is.⠀he doesn't want to seem forceful so he adds,⠀ “⠀you don't have to tell me if you don't want to. it just seems like something's bothering you.⠀”⠀ he reaches out to squeeze Dani's hand softly.⠀no one should feel alone,⠀/⠀no one should have to face anything by themselves.

“⠀I don't mind if you wanna go anywhere, I'll take you there.⠀”⠀ a smile places itself upon the brunette's features.⠀he's certain that the woman before him is one of the most beautiful beings he has ever encountered.⠀act cool, Ethan Wate.⠀something whispers within him, and he has to stop himself from laughing at it.⠀(⠀what's wrong with just being oneself?⠀)⠀Ethan allows his head to tilt slightly to the side.⠀his gaze stays fixed on Emma's own.⠀ “⠀we can go on an adventure.⠀”⠀ his eyes seem to light up with sheer excitement.⠀ “⠀or we can just go to my favorite café.⠀”⠀ this time he does laugh.⠀a quiet chuckle exits out of him.⠀he awaits Emma's response.

with olympia's cousin, the actual investigator of the group, busy with her own cases, miguel is left to do her work. it's josephine's idea to keep an eye on the boy that had piqued olympia's interest. and what kind of a best friend would he be if he declined the task that jo had specifically assigned to him? though if he were to be honest, he would prefer to stay out of it. let it crash and burn if it's going to. that's not up to him.
but of course, with the dangers that olympia's life poses, there's a certain level of caution that needs to be exercised by each member of their friend group. jo isn't convinced he's innocent or squeaky clean like his records supposedly show. so, he's here, at the metropolitan museum of art, wandering around the place until he spots the boy whose face he's only seen through the bar's security footage. leave it to josephine to be resourceful and a bit frightening. “ excuse me, do you work here? ” he says, acting clueless. his eyes land on the name tag, relieved to be right. “ right. uh, i'm trying to book a private tour for my friends and i. they've never been to new york. do you guys do those here? ”

the museum is relatively quiet as Ethan moves through the exhibits.⠀ he'd be lying if he said he wasn't startled by the sound of a stranger's voice coming from behind him.⠀at the question of working there, Ethan isn't able to give a response before the other man notices his name tag.⠀the comment of this person's friends never having been to New York brings a smile to Ethan's mouth.⠀ “⠀we do, yeah.⠀—⠀we do tours that last for an hour, or you can book something longer if you'd like more time.⠀”⠀ with a nod, the brunette is leading the other over to an empty desk.⠀as he takes a seat, he begins typing on the computer.⠀ “⠀when were your friends going to be here?⠀”⠀ Ethan looks up at the other, smile still placed on his features.⠀ “⠀just so I can make sure we have availability for those dates.⠀”
something inside of Ethan says to be careful, though he's not entirely sure why.⠀this is just a random stranger looking for a tour;⠀nothing urgent or terrifying is occurring.⠀and yet Ethan cannot help but wonder⠀:⠀hasn't he seen this person somewhere before?⠀his eyes seem familiar, as does his face.⠀could he have come to the museum before?⠀no, that's not it.⠀maybe they have a mutual friend in common.⠀Ethan's eyebrows furrow for a moment.⠀ “⠀what's your name?⠀—⠀so I can put it down for the tour booking.⠀”⠀ a polite smile moves its way onto his lips.⠀he's sure that he's seen this man before.

NEW PATRONS ALWAYS STOOD OUT TO JOSEPHINE, BUT THIS ONE WAS A REMARKABLE FACE FOR ANOTHER REASON. unbeknownst to olympia, the increased frequency of her visits to the metropolitan museum of art have been observed by her over-protective older sister figure. while jo didn't typically check olympia's whereabouts, she'd noticed strange patterns in behavior, paired with visiting places she typically would seldom go to. things only someone who really knew her could observe. having cross-referenced olympia's targets as of late, paired with combing through the met's security footage, she came upon one MR. ETHAN WATE. an employee there, and someone olympia'd been seen talking to on multiple occasions. jo had already done the background search, and so far she found nothing incriminating. it was disappointing, really. she should consider herself lucky he just happened to waltz into the bar. sometimes people were only good on paper, and if she were to be honest, she didn't necessarily trust olympia's taste in partners or whatever it was that kept her coming back to that place. but josephine wasn't going to let him know she knew of this connection. instead, she opted for a game. “ let me guess, you're here for some IPA your coworkers told you about, ” she said in lieu of a greeting, her typical way of guessing people's drink orders. “ well, which one is it? ”
as he steps into the bar, Ethan is quick to look for the woman he's head over heels for.⠀he remembers that Olympia had mentioned the bar, saying that she worked there.⠀so here he was;⠀he wanted to surprise her.⠀as he walks up the the bar, before he can open his mouth and ask for the woman he's searching for, someone speaks to him.⠀she seems to come off a bit rude, but he's sure she means well.⠀so he puts on a smile.⠀as he lifts a hand, showing a bouquet of flowers, Ethan responds to the one behind the bar.⠀ “⠀I'm actually looking for someone.⠀—⠀her name is Olympia. is she working?⠀”⠀ eyes soften at the mention of Olympia Beckett.⠀his smile only seems to grow.⠀as he licks his lips to dampen them, when his tongue retreats back into his mouth, Ethan's lips part to speak once again.⠀ “⠀she didn't know that I was coming. I wanted to surprise her.⠀”⠀ a light flush creeps onto the brunette's cheeks.⠀Ethan finds himself hoping that he hasn't overstepped somehow.⠀while Olympia came to his job to see him, he hasn't come to hers until now.⠀would she be mad?⠀Ethan knows that he can only find out.

" it comes as a sinister surprise to learn he can now recognize ethan by his gait — a level of familiarity the dhampir had every reason to avoid. despite his best efforts to stay away, these visits were starting to become something of a habit. it was the art, he insists, that drove him here day after day, the art that had him parked on a bench for hours, quietly sketching until they shut off the lights. if there was a part of him that enjoyed the company, he'd sooner skip town than admit it. stowing his sketchbook, he glances over his shoulder, suspicions confirmed as he finds ethan lingering in the archway. " always around. i'm starting to think you're part of the exhibit. " it was an enchanting thought — living amongst the artwork, one with clay and canvas. the benches left a little to be desired, but he'd had worse. " come to kick me out? "
the smile that pulls itself onto his mouth is genuine.⠀Ethan laughs at the comment of being there late.⠀a shrug is given.⠀ “⠀it comes with the job.⠀”⠀ dimples begin to show on each side of his face.⠀as he lingers in the archway, another laugh exits out of his throat.⠀it slips into the air and floats there like a ghost.⠀he moves from where he is standing, walking closer to where the other is.⠀ “⠀imagine if I was part of the exhibit?⠀”⠀ the brunette's smile only widens as an eyebrow raises.⠀ “⠀I think that'd be pretty cool.⠀”⠀ at the question that leaves the other, Ethan finds himself delayed with his spoken response.⠀the quiet hangs in the space shared b'tween them.⠀ but then lips part when he decides to reply.⠀ “⠀I'm supposed to...⠀”⠀ his smile changes into a mischievous smirk.⠀ “⠀...but I'm sure my boss won't mind us hanging around for a little bit longer.⠀—⠀I do it a lot and she doesn't get mad, as long as I lock up after.⠀”
