katarinaolsson:
It was common for Katarina to sneak in naps during odd hours of the day. Be it five minutes to fifty, she habitually sought out idle time whenever possible. But the downfall of such habit was her renewed energy. Far too awake for 11 at night, she roamed the compound with a cigarette dangling from her lips. She idly found her way to the shooting range, watching with mild interest as Ethan finished off his ammunition. âIâd enjoy it better with your shirt off.â Katarina daringly insinuated, a playful smirk as she moves into the range with a haze of smoke surrounding her. For years, she and Ethan were acquainted. They were children of The Companyâs leaders, practically raised in the compound. Despite his humanity and her mutation, they kept a familiar kinship. âWhat do you say, hot stuff? Give me a show.âÂ
The moment he heard her voice he couldnât stop himself from smiling. He and Kat had all but grown up together, he was used to this kind of âabuseâ by now, and was absolutely fine by it too, âMmm, think Iâll have to pass unfortunately,â He sighed, but there was little regret in his tone, Â âSorry to let you down.â He added, looking over at her before he continued to load the magazine and set it down on the counter. Ethan pressed the button to bring the target forward with his thumb, he tore it off when it stopped in front of him and changed it for a fresh one, âWhatâre you doing hanging around so late? And with so much energy?â Bed was calling for him, but he wasnât going to give in to that just yet.
clarkdavis:
Clark was psyched, actually physically excited for what he just had created. He didnât know what the time was, probably late, but hell if he cared. All he needed was someone to test it, other than him. His shot was horrible and embarrassing but he couldnât care less about that. There were plenty of talented agents that could fit the profile. His best shot was at the shooting range. Heâd come there quite regularly to witness his creations in person, to make adjustments if need be and of course, to get a kick out of all the cool weapons and the insane shots that they fired. The compound was quiet, and for a moment he feared that no one qualified was left. Thankfully, there was someone still at the range, a man heâd seen before but never met. Clark tried to contain his excitement and energy, not quite looking to startle the agent and risk being the next target. It gave him the opportunity to see if he had a worthy shot or if he was practicing at night cause he sucked that bad. Luckily, it was the first option. âOh yeah, man, absolutely. You got a great shot.â He admitted freely. âActually, Iâm looking for an agent to test something of mine. Is there any way youâd be interested?â As far as Clark was concerned, the man had already said yes.
He knew of Clark, but he had yet to have the pleasure of meeting him. He was almost like an urban legend, with other agents whispering about the inventions that he came up with, and what some of them had been lucky enough to try out. Ethan hadnât had such a chance, but it seemed that tonight was going to be his lucky night. He looked up, a grimace forming on his lips as he was about to disagree with his shooting, but then when the offer to test something arrived, the thought left his mind immediately, âTest something? What kind of thing are we talking here?â
joxknox:
Joanna was almost always working, almost always could be found somewhere on the training grounds if she wasnât off on a mission. She heard the shots down the range, and curiously got the best of her. She had slipped in quietly, leaning back against the wall until he finished his round. Jo walked forward, âYeah, I was, actually. I was wondering who was down here making all that noise.â She smirked, before her face softened, âYou alright?â she asked, bumping his shoulder lighting with hers.
He sighed heavily, âHey Jo,â Lightly bumping her back as means of greeting. He reached up at the target to pull it down and handed it to her, âStill not getting this right, thatâs all.â He answered, Ethan was known for his sulking when things didnât quite go his way, it was especially bad considering his target was otherwise near perfect. But it was like that asshole student at school who cried because they got an A-, he was acting much the same. He continued to fill the magazine until it was full and slotted it back into the gun.

Ira swallowed hard when the man responded, not really caring so much that he didnât have a cigarette. He hadnât smoked since the last time he saw Micki. This was just something heâd seen in enough movies to strike up conversation. He was good at mimicking, to a degree. âI donât mean to bother you, but could you?â He asked, smiling reflexively from the dopamine he got from successfully starting a conversation. Like his old therapist used to say, âItâs all about the little victories.â âMy nameâs Ira. Iâve seen you before, but I donât â Iâm not always strong with words. Nor do I really get out much, but itâs better than not at all. â
Ethan waved a hand dismissively, âNah itâs all good, Iâd be happy to show you where to go,â It sort of fell under his branch of work anyway, recruiters did often find themselves as tour guides and assistants, help be that friendly face to help people get oriented and settle in, âHey Ira, oh really? Ah-- Thatâs fair enough, not everyoneâs a social master and thatâs okay. Iâm Ethan.â He flashed him a smile before pointing in the general direction of the store, âWeâre headed this way.â
danixlarson:
Dani rolled her eyes, choosing to ignore his comment on orientation. She knew she probably should have waited around for the tour, but she just couldnât stand the person giving it. Dani managed a smirk, and even a small laugh when he responded, âI thought so, you didnât seem like the type, but I donât exactly know what to expect here.â She shrugged, not tearing her eyes away immediately before shamelessly answering, âIâm not too sure yet, still figuring it out, Iâll let you know though, maybe, depending on the outcome.â
Ethan simply shrugged at that, âWhat can I say? Iâve always been a good little soldier, never been the kind to go barking orders at others,â He could, but that didnât mean he wanted to. His role was much more holistic in the recruitment process, he was supposed to butter people up and make them want to join. The order barking fell to the trainers and higher ups. He scoffed in amusement, âAlright, well you let me know when you know. In the mean time, where dâyou need to go? I can show you whatâs what around here.â
noahhblanchee:
noah rolled her eyes at that, ââcourse youâd say that, typical company soldierâll get mad if anyone he shoots down will keep coming back up again,â she crossed her arms, feeling a little dizzy but hoping it wouldnât show. She didnât even know why she was getting a bit testy, of course it could be the caffeine talking. She tried to jokingly punch his arm, but missed somehow and frowned, then shook it off and tried for a smile, âyou still owe me coffee and Iâm in great need of some, so nowâs your chance,â she said, starting to walk off.
A light shrug hefted from his shoulders, âWell. Thereâs that too. Yeah. Itâd make war even worse than it is now.â He countered, but then cringed when she started to walk off, âMore coffee? Noah? I really really donât think thatâs a good idea!â He called after her before heâd jog to catch up with her, âWith all due respect, youâre bouncing off of the walls right now. Maybe a nice easy-going drink would be better like uh, some water? Maybe?â He suggested lightly, âJust anything with minimal sugar or caffeine content in it.â
It was late, gone past 11pm, but Ethan was down in the shooting range making the most of the fact it was pretty much empty this time of night. He squeezed off another few rounds, emptying the magazine until the slide cocked back to indicate he was out. He let out a huff, knocking the button with his knuckles to bring in the target as his shoulders slumped. It wasnât good enough. To anyone else itâd be pretty damn good work, his shots were nicely grouped together in the chest, but to Ethan it just wasnât good enough. He shook his head slowly as he pulled down his ear guards around his neck, taking out the empty magazine to click in new ammunition. It was only then that he realised he wasnât alone by the sound of footsteps, âEnjoying the show?â He asked lightly, tone uncharacteristically flat and dejected.Â
aconstantstateofdecay:
He was going to talk to someone today.Â
Ira had been at the compound for a few weeks, but the overwhelm from the size and population of the compound was enough to keep him either shut up in a room or sit so quietly in a corner that no one would notice him. Instinct told him that he preferred it that way, but heâd been alone for so long and now he finally had an unsupervised opportunity to make a friend. Old habits died hard and his social skills were definitely stunted, but after a solid week of trying to get himself to say a word to a stranger that looked nice, a full sentence managed to leave his mouth. âI-I donât suppose you have a cigarette, do you? Or know where I could get some?â His heart pounded in his chest nervously, but he celebrated his small victory in his head. He didnât have to be alone anymore.
The question had him turning to face who spoke and a shrug hefted from his shoulders, âSorry to let you down bud, donât smoke,â He answered honestly, âBut if you go swing by the store theyâll have everything you need.â Ethan gave him a good look over, he didnât recognise him, so he figured he mustâve been a newbie to the compound - generally the safest bet to place, âYou know where youâre going?â He asked simply, âI can show you if you like?â There was also the matter that Ethan was a horrible do-gooder who liked to make people feel welcome, even if theyâd been around for years.Â
noahhblanchee:
@ethanxmcqueen
it was kind of a long day, what with the agents coming in constantly she didnât even get her lunch and finish her dinner. noah even questioned her job for a while. what was going on out there today? she began to pack up, seeing that it was a few hours after the last person who came in, she decided the day was done and she was going to get the rest she deserved. then noah heard some shuffling behind her, instinctively, she said in a monotone way, âiâm sorryâ she really wasnât, âbut weâre closed so maybe you can go find some other doctor,â she waved the other person off in another direction ,the direction to the other doctorâs office. she turned around and came face to face with someone she surprisingly knew, her eyebrows knitted in confusion, and she stayed like that for a few seconds before taking a deep breath in and letting it out slowly, her frustration clearly showing. âwhat are you doing here? i told you to get some rest,â she states a little angrily at ethan. besides, she thought, iâm supposed to go have sushi already.
It was all part of the debriefing protocol to go and get a check up with the doc when you returned to the compound, and Ethan was of no exception to that. Luckily, heâd struck up a pretty good relationship with the doc on duty, and he didnât feel too guilty about sticking his nose in after hours. He watched Noah shoo off a patient, shoving his hands into his pockets as he waited for her to turn, and when she did sheâd be greeted by that trademark lopsided grin, âItâs great to see you too doc,â He chuckled, shaking his head, âOh please, it was just some bruising, nothing lil olâ me couldnât handle.â He shrugged lightly, âI was swinging by because I was hungry and I was gonna grab a bite. The doctorâs office was on the way so wondered if youâd care to join me?â
raexwilder:
âI guess youâre right,â she nodded, agreeing. âReally? Thatâs cute, I bet they have a lot of fun.â She frowned for a moment, worried what might go wrong if she tried again, she turned back and looked at the water, âUh, I guess so, maybe Iâll do just one..â Rae focused back on the water, trying to keep her hands more steady as she brought another creature to the surface, arching up out of the water slightly higher than before, âLike that?â
He nodded, âTheyâre fun animals. Iâd imitate the noise for you but I think my voice would crack and thatâd just suck, too high pitch for me.â He chuckled, folding his arms over his chest as she turned to the water to focus again. He remained quiet, watching as the water took shape into the new form. He grinned at her, âThatâs more like it! Also you know here--â He pointed to the blow hole, â--they spout water out of these. Just an idea.â He immediately stepped back, just in case.Â
danixlarson:
Dani scoffed, rolling her eyes. Deep down, she probably would have liked to go to college, but it would have never been in the cards for her, she technically lacked a high school diploma as well. She squinted her eyes down at the map as he pointed, explaining the confusing legend, âOh, they should put signs or something, how do they expect anyone new to figure this out?â Probably the tour you ditched, Dani waved the thought away, looking back up at him, âUh, thanks. Whats your job here, youâre not in charge or anything, right?â she didnât peg him as an authority man, but she had been wrong before, she also took the time to glance over him. It was a habit, she did to everyone she met, to size them up, and to see if they had any valuable to âborrowâ.
He hummed to himself for a moment, âI mean, Iâm pretty sure that they do a whole orientation for new staff on site. They certainly did when I first showed up here,â Not that heâd truly needed it, essentially growing up around here thanks to the involvement of his parents in The Company. He tapped his chin, but then laughed heartily at her question, âGood god no. No way,â He quickly answered, âI donât run anything here. Iâm just one of the recruiters.â He caught that look she gave him too, and he gave her a coy smirk, âSee something you like orâre you trying to figure out how to take me out?âÂ
noahhblanchee:
it was hectic. one moment noah was reading an article on cellular regeneration, and the next she had gone down the rabbit hole of conspiracies and mad rambling. she was sure she had just stumbled past the next biggest breakthrough in scientific history, or maybe it was just the 2 hour of sleep and 5 cups of coffee she had. either way, she was convinced to make her point, âiâm telling you, if we just focused our efforts on this, everyone will be immortal soon,â she knew she sounded and looked, a little crazy. but she had gone too deep into the abyss to pull out now, âiâm not kidding!â she said, frustrated as she heard soft chuckling from the other person.
It was pretty hilarious, âBut Noah, who actually wants to be immortal? Thatâd suck so bad,â He tried to reason, but he could see it in her eyes how damn wired she was. He was surprised that she hadnât started involuntarily twitching yet, âweâd just have the same crusty guys in charge all the time and nothing would change. At least with people getting older thereâs the chance of renewal yâknow?â
taliashunter:
Talia recorded her notes as the mutant on the table slept. Well, maybe they were passed out from the pain, but that was neither here nor there. They were simply tired. Besides, she worked best when they couldnât move. Hearing footsteps coming into her office, she sighed. The genetics lab was constantly mistaken for the infirmary and it was forever aggrevating the woman. âHello,â she started with a smile, âcan I help you with something? If youâre looking for the infirmary, Iâm afraid itâs not in this building.â
âGood thing I wasnât looking for the infirmary then huh? I was looking for you Talia.â He answered with a broad, lopsided grin, âI actually came to see how you were getting on with this one.â Ethan stepped forward towards her desk but threw a nod toward the mutant resting on the table. This was one that heâd recruited, so he always wanted to stop by and check in on them from time to time, âHowâs he doing?â
brooklynmyrs:
Tears stung at Brooklynâs eyes, she walked along the pathway, trying to keep her eyes down while she walked. Her mandatory training session had been rough, not on her but on her sparring partner. She accidentally had tossed him a few feet in the air, still unable to control her own strength. Her mind had flashed back to her fatherâs death, unable to keep the images from her mind. She felt terrible, terrible enough to leave the training immediately, mumbling apologies profusely as she left the building. She sniffed, glancing up to see someone staring at her. âSorry, sorry.. Iâm fine.â
He knew she was finding it hard, and the moment he saw her out with her head down he knew something had gone wrong again. He made a b-line for her, then shook his head when she looked up at him, âWe both know thatâs not true Brooke, what happened?â He asked her softly, reaching out to pat her on the shoulder assuringly.Â
danixlarson:
Dani straightened the papers in her arms, mumbling under her breath before glancing back up, furrowing her brows,·âItâs stupid, is what it is. Iâve never been to college anyway. Itâs too expensive and too worthless.â Dani narrowed her eyes, looking over him,·âWho are you here anyway? Do you know where the supply store is, or the Elementary School or Training Sector? That doesnât make sense, which one is it? It canât be both.â
He hefted a shrug from his shoulders,·âWeâll agree to disagree there,â He was a graduate who had loved college, even though his degree had sweet fa to do with his current line of work,·âMe? Just some guy you knocked into, who also knows where all of those things are,â He pointed at her map to one of the buildings, then pointed to the one in front of them,·âTo help you get your bearings, that building is this one. Even though it _says _Elementary School itâs not, but it looks like one. Easier to tell someone to go there than the training facility. I guess this is all left over from when it was super secret 50s juju and they re-purposed the lot.â
