discord drop : moonflower#2219 !
dani never admired flowers / plants / etc. before jamie. she wouldn’t go out of her way to smell fresh roses growing from a bush, or think twice about gardening and the fresh fruits and vegetables that it offers. dying plants were just that, nothing special about them. though, when she meets jamie and thereafter, if dani passes by a potted plant that’s limp and dying, she’ll bring it home to be cared for and brought back to life. if she sees a bouquet of various flowers and suddenly thinks of her love, she’ll pick them to bring back to their shared home. with jamie in her life, dani tends to seek out these things simply because they remind her of the one person she desperately wants to live the rest of her days with.
consider this a lowkey starter call !

THE HAUNTING OF BLY MANOR 2020 | THE GREAT GOOD PLACE
And if a child gives the effect … another turn of the screw, well, what do you say to two?
D E A D DOESN’T ALWAYS MEAN GONE !
The wrong kind of love can fuck you up. Follow you. Make you do some really stupid shit. And those two, believe me, that was the wrong kind of love.
EVAN SHAWE :
evan isn’t good with the children. he prefers the company of his tools and the solitude that his job gives him. on the odd occasion, he’ll run into the girl or the boy and attempt to make conversation with their babbling, but more often than not he ends up feeling inferior to a child. he was in half a mind to keep walking, to leave the younger of the two wingraves where she is, yet even his limited experiences with them tells him that there’s something quite not… right.
when she finally responds to her name, a brow arches and the air in his lungs depress. ❛ aye, i can tell, ❜ he nods. ❛ i lost count the amount of times i shouted yer name, ❜ the scot then adds, chuckling softly. tucked away? such an odd way of explaining herself. then again, he’s always found the pair to be unlike other children. hannah says it’s the grief of loss that’s changed them. evan just thinks they’re weird. ❛ uh… yeah. ye should do that. they’re probably wonderin’ where ye are. c’mon. ❜
the residential handyman doesn’t talk much. not to them, really. at least, not like ms. clayton and owen and hannah do. they all make conversation with both wingraves - jamie, too sometimes. flora thinks that, maybe he’s just not good at conversation, or maybe he doesn’t know how to talk to children. he’s certainly the quietest. but it doesn’t bother her, not in the slightest. he comes to the manor, fixes whatever needs it, and then heads off. the young girl isn’t even sure if she knows how far he lives from the mansion. perhaps she’ll ask next time. ‘course, she’s not thinking about any of that when he calls her name. ripped from her trance.
after collecting herself, flora stands and looks up at the man. ❝ again, i’m terribly sorry. i simply must not have heard you calling out for me. ❞ she stands directly in front of the small doll lying in the grass, hoping he doesn’t take notice. it has to stay there. she doesn’t look back, she knows that ms. jessel has gone away by now. besides, the adults always find it a bit odd when flora’s gaze wanders away from them. as if she’s staring at nothing. the girl nods, taking a few steps forward.
❝ you’re right. ms. clayton does tend to worry when she can’t find me. oh ! i know, you could walk me back. it’s an awfully long walk, you know. ❞
HANNAH GROSE :
.。.:*☆ @etormentis ➝ HANNAH & OWEN.
lyric starter call, ALONE.
“‘i always got by fine on my own,”
❝ oh i do believe that ! ❞ the words come out so matter - of - factly. so sure, and yet he fully believes that no one should ever be on their own. not entirely. so he leans in slightly closer, glancing around to see if anyone is around; as if it’s a big secret. ❝ you, hannah grose, are so very strong. i am sure you’d be just fine on your own. but ! it doesn’t hurt to let others help. ❞ a smile pulls onto his lips, leaning out of her space, though not dropping the topic at hand. shoulders simply rise and fall as he adds,
❝ why do you think i allow the children to help in the kitchen? it gets awfully boring being alone. ❞
JAMIE HARRIS :
this hasn’t happened for a while, and a small part of jamie had somehow convinced herself that it was over, that somehow the beast within had given up so that dani could find reprieve, but it seems that was, is and always will be wishful thinking. the second she notices that something has changed in the other everything is dropped, be it groceries, plates or her plans. she’s at dani’s side no matter the cost, and she’ll keep paying that cost for the rest of her life. it turns out, it’s worth every damn ounce. palms cup dani’s face as if they were holding the most precious art in the world, and eyes flicker in every direction, monitoring every part of the woman as the seconds continue to crawling by in an excruciating manner.
and then there’s movement. dani finds the willpower to pull herself back and the breath exhales from jamie’s lungs. she hadn’t realised just how long she had been holding the air within, unwilling to make a move or sound until she knows that dani has reclaimed herself, and now her lungs ache with the effort.
it takes a moment for the question to sink in, her thumb tracing arches along the woman’s jawline while thoughts ponder her words. how can she be so sure? well… ❛ i know you more than i know myself, poppins. i’ve watched you go from strength to strength. hell, you’ve faced more than anyone should in their lives, and you’ve always came out the other side. ❜ it didn’t matter if she was battered, bruised or tired; dani survived. it’s one of the reasons jamie had fallen so hard for the blonde. ❛ you’re a fucking warrior, and the love of my life. that’s how i know. ❜
the gardener shakes her head. seeing dani talk this way about herself hurts more than any earthly pain, and she wants nothing more than to reach inside and pluck such views from the woman’s mind. ❛ no one is stronger than you. no one. you can feel her, but dani – you’re here. you’re here with me. feel me, touch me - hear me. you. are. here. ❜
there’s never truly a moment where dani think she’s safe. where she believes that the lady in the lake won’t take her over. even if weeks pass without one of those spells, it always comes eventually. when she least expects it. sometimes, it happens when dani is left alone, when she’s stuck in her thoughts and suddenly the entire world around her gets blurry. her chest will get tight and she can feel it creeping up inside of her. a darkness looming over her entire being until there’s nothing. and she’s stuck like this, in the nothingness, until snapping out of it minutes or hours later. every single day she wishes that jamie and her could have a normal life. just the two of them, happy and living. that’s all she wants, really. instead, when she comes to, dani has a mess to clean up. literally and figuratively. items will clatter to the ground, uncared for, left behind because dani is more important than any object. dani has never known that, true and honest to god love like this ( and it’s not something that she’s allowed to keep. )
beyond the literal mess that lays forgotten on the ground when this happens, the former nani can always see the pain written clear as day on jamie’s features. the way her lips turn down, her brows knit together, worry completing taking over her gaze. this is what hurts the most; having to see the love of her life look fear in the eye every time dani loses herself. there are times when she thinks jamie can feel her pain as well. two souls connected so perfectly, that when dani is drowning, jamie is there, too; going through the same hurt while trying to pull her love’s head above the water.
it’s the hands, ever so softly, caressing her cheeks, running along her jaw. the soft touch that helps ground her. she wants to kiss away the frown. to promise that she’s okay, though that would be a lie and it would nearly kill dani to lie straight to jamie’s face. her hands lay over the ones already resting on either side of her cheeks, eyes closing as she listens.
dani swallows down the disbelief. she nods weakly as tears continue to fall down her cheeks. and she’s absolutely right, as usual. they are there, together. she’s not gone yet. they still have time ( she reminds herself of this daily. ) cherish this time together. dani pulls at jamie’s hands until they fall away, just so she can fall into an embrace. be completely engulfed by love. ❝ i don’t know what i did to deserve you, ❞ she whispers. ❝ i know you think i’m the strongest person you’ve ever met but - you might have me beat. ❞ a smile pulls on her lips, leaning away just enough to catch jamie’s gaze. ❝ i love you. i will always love you. ❞ forever, she doesn’t say.
OWEN SHARMA :
she’s been out there for some time. he had seen her as he walked to the garden, jamie instructing him on which vegetables he was allowed to take and which he wasn’t. he can only see the back of her head, but she sits very still. he’s never known flora to be still a moment in her life so it worries him. quickly, so as to make it out there before she comes back in, he’s finding the blanket and basket he used for when the children fancied lunch outside. sandwiches, biscuits, sparkling cider. some fruits. he informs dani of his plan before he’s setting off.
❝ i’ll be quite upset if you’re getting into trouble without me, little miss. ❞ he calls out to her. flora doesn’t seem to hear him. that troubles him even more. the pond is perfectly still, no loud noises to mask his voice. ❝ flora ?? ❞ the picnic basket is abandoned next to her as he puts a hand on her shoulder. ❝ flora ?? ❞ owen’s dark brows knit together in worry when she finally looks back up at him. ❝ actually, i was thinking we could take this basket of goodies and have ourselves a picnic ?? maybe in the garden ?? ❞ he doesn’t think he’d fancy sitting out by the pond, not with the thought of rebecca still present in their minds.
truth be told, flora doesn’t quit like the lake. she used to, back when her and rebecca would sit at the edge and play with her dollies, ms. jessel was always so nice to her and her brother. sometimes, the young wingrave still sees their old nanny. out there standing between the weeds in the middle of the small body of water. it used to frighten flora but - now they can still chat. the dead are never truly gone; she’s learned that while living in bly. though, the girl has yet to see her parents wandering the halls. surely because they didn’t pass here. their bodies weren’t even truly buried where the headstones say they are. it breaks her heart to think about. with a soft sigh, flora turns her gaze once more, eyes searching for ms. jessel. she must have gone. no worries though, she’ll come back. she always comes back.
as if nothing at all has happened, a small hand reaches out for owen to take. ❝ a picnic? ❞ she asks, grin spreading from ear to ear. ❝ well i think that sounds perfectly splendid!! i love a good picnic, and you always make the absolute best snacks. ❞ flora has already started leading them away from the lake, the light brought back into her features now that she’s back. being tucked away in her memories isn’t dreadfully awful, though she knows that those around her do worry. she can see it in the way their eyes crinkle and their foreheads wrinkle up. ❝ are you going to tell me what goodies are in there? ❞ she points to the basket, ❝ i don’t think i can wait. ❞
