What outfit is this?
‘When Yeul pleads for my salvation, she speaks the truth. But, at the same time, Yeul cannot let me go. She must keep me here.’
The truth
Swear on your soul, never let her go again.
200AF Oerba
Yeul stood on the beach of Oerba, looking over the water and what was left of the scenery of Pulse. Each Yeul had the same memories of those before her after a certain age and she had the precious memories of a flush, green and expansive Oerba with taupe sandy beaches. Whenever she came to places, she remember what that place was and how important it had been in the past. The sound of the birds, frogs and creatures were no more due to the many C’ieth that trampled the town of Oerba.
She remembered her visit from Oerba, but she didn’t want to discuss it with Caius as something untold was going to happen. She did not want to mention that Caius was going to be fought and defeated by Noel on this day, she wanted her last moments with Caius to be ones that were special. For now, he was elsewhere and she was fiddling with a few flowers for him as she waited for the outcome of the battle to come.
Yeul heard the clashing of swords, the singing sounds of steel hitting the dense sword filled her ears with regret. When the moment came to pass that Caius had been defeated, she felt as if her own heart was struck and her whole body wilted onto the sand.
Has come to do roleplays.
Would you still be up for that Yeul/Caius RP?
Cute!~
I've never been one for so many ships for Yeul, but I always liked the Hope/Yeul ship. They have the strangest dynamic, especially since he ends up being bhunivelze to a degree. I could see him viewing her as a problem, but wanting to fix the problem rather than destroying it. My 400AF Yeul admired Hope from afar, but never wanted to approach or meet him due to interference of Caius. After all, correcting her paradox would likely make her disappear or make her forget some parts of herself.
I always liked the Bhunivelze/Etro relationship they kind of symbolize. She is the epitome of Chaos and Hope is the epitome of Order, at least that's what I think.
The Nascent Guardian
Caius walked past the sneering sect of priests, not even sparing them a glance in their direction. The new guardian cared not for their thoughts on him, so he ignored their caustic remarks and disapproving stares, and followed Yeul towards the house of the seeress.
"Very well." He replied to the young girl. He had witnessed the rituals of the people of Paddra before, and he was not looking forward to his true initiation. They were usually long and dull affairs, and Caius did not know if he could bear to suffer through any more. More importantly than that, however, was the tone of Yeul’s voice.
Gone was the dignified and composed manner of the ruler. A deep sorrow was now present within her voice, and the emotion displayed itself openly upon her face. She did not allow a look long enough for him to analyze it further, but he could tell from a glance. The way she acted around Nero was far different than when she was within the large throng of people that usually surrounded her. Within Caius’ presence alone, she apparently felt free enough to show what she felt.
They entered the building, and were immediately greeted by the many retainers and servants of Yeul. They bowed their heads, and she walked in the center of the two long rows they formed. Caius sneered slightly, amused by how servile and feeble each of them were.
"What rites must be performed before I can truly take the mantle of the guardian?" The guardian asked her. Caius did not know if she would answer in front of her servants, but he did not think it mattered if they knew what they two of them spoke of. They were only workers, after all. "Will a l’Cie brand be placed upon me, now that I have finally overcome the trials?"
Yeul only stopped for that moment before she took a long look at him, then she turned away continuing her long walk down the hallway. She was allowed to feel openly in private or with her guardian as he was not exactly exempt from them, unlike everyone else. The soft shuffle of her yellow boots stopped at the end of the line near the largest door near the back. She half turned, looking up at Caius and nodded towards the door in front of her.
"That is to be discussed in private, these are my quarters and other than my hand maids, no one else is allowed to enter. Your quarters is there." She pointed to the room closest to her own room, before she turned and unlocked the door to her own quarters. Yeul twisted her wrist and allowed him to go ahead of her, allowing her to lock the door behind her. For someone so open to her subjects, when it did not involve Paddra's well-being, she seemed to lock herself away within the walls of her quarters. The room was the largest and rich-looking in decor, colour and architecture.
The room had a huge canopy bed in the furthest back part of the room, decorated in a deep blue, turquoise and violet fabrics that was way too big for one person to sleep in. The floor was marble but a hand-woven rug from Valis Media was stretched out over a large majority of the room, fancied from the finest fabrics Valis Media had to offer. Off to the right was a open bath that couldn't be seen from outside as it had a decorative fence that allowed her to look out, but others not to spy inwards on the Seeress. To the left hand side was four sets of windows, pretty large in size that arced near the top that lead out to a balcony. The balcony had the perfect scenery to gaze upon; Cocoon was in the sky, below was a deep gorge that frequently had water draining into it and Adamantoises walking along the paths. Any place that wasn't covered by the bed or windows had a expansive shelf of books written by the Seeress and her predecessors.
When the two were inside, she spent no hesitation and walked in the direction of the window and opened it with a tug. Yeul stepped out onto the balcony and turned towards Caius, offering her full attention. "Yes, a L'cie brand will be placed upon your heart, just like your predecessors. You will not receive a familiar brand, you are not considered a Pulse L'cie." Yeul placed her hands on the balcony railing and lifted herself up to sit on it, the wind hit her in such a way that her silvery hair looked as if it glittered in the sun. "There are two rituals that take place, one is public acceptance by the Order of Paddra, it is called "The Communion of Passage." We will wear special garbs and drink from the same cup, it has been fifty years since it was performed." Yeul cleared her throat a little before continuing with her explanation.
"Tribe leaders will come to meet you. It is an excuse for bringing merriment to Paddra. Afterwards, you will blessed by the Arch Bishop and we will leave on a journey to test your abilities as Guardian." Yeul hopped down and pointed towards the mountain in the distance. "Sitting atop the mountain is the Fal'Cie Ramuh, he will bestow your brand." Yeul left out various details about that journey due to its nature, but she made sure that he got a good look at it. "The weather is not good there." Even from this distance, one could see the dark clouds brewing there constantly. When she was finished, she turned in Caius' direction and waited for his next question or concern.
The small Seeress rubbed her hand against the back of her neck, she felt uncomfortable. She had a hard time dealing with the idea of Caius being her new Guardian, she had faded memories of previous slain guardian, but now that she had a fresh one it was hard to put away.
immortal-ballad:
With the fury of a thousand beasts laid to rest, Caius fought against Nero, his mentor. The two had clashed before, but never so fervently, nor with such killing intent. The thrill of the hunt was nothing compared to this fight. Never before was Caius so intimately involved within the fight as this; the feeling was incomparable. He did not hear the roar of the crowd surrounding them, nor did he see the seeress gazing upon them. All of his focus was on the man before him.
Caius cared not for who the crowd cheered for, or who the seeress favored. He would win this battle against Nero. With all his might, he brought down his blade, only to have it crash against the ground with a resounding crack. Nero had dodged the attack expertly, as was his wont. Caius knew his style of fighting very well, and could now anticipate his moves. Especially now that he had slowed down in his age, this battle was already decided within Caius’ mind. He need only to choose the correct time to end it.
Finally, he saw an opening within the other’s guard. A small chance at victory. Nero stopped and rose his weapon to counter his blade, but he was too late. Caius swung his sword forth, rending through the man’s armor as easily as a claw through flesh. The force of his swing cause Caius to stagger backwards, and he lost his grip with his right hand on his sword. Had he not struck Nero down then, he would have been wide open for a fatal attack.
The noise of the crowd that he had tuned out before suddenly ceased, and the silence that Caius now experienced was deafening. His mentor slumped to his knees, clutching his stomach in agony. He glanced up at Caius, his eyes full of an emotion he could not quite place, only to fall face first, dead. The thrill Caius felt from the battle had not yet worn off; he doubted he would sense such excitement from a fight for a long time.
He bowed down his head slightly towards Nero’s body. He proved to be a worthy opponent, and Caius would never forget the bravery with which he fought, nor the skill of his blade or his teachings. He would be sure to fulfill his role as guardian of Paddra Nsu-Yeul till his dying day. He felt an odd and ominous premonition after that thought, but shook it off before his worry could show on his face.
Caius scanned the crowd. All eyes lay upon him, the new guardian. He smirked, and turned to face Yeul, his new charge. He would be serving as this girl’s vassal from this day forth. He looked up at her, and in her stare he could see both sadness and anger. Perhaps it was due to Nero’s death, but it did not matter. The displeasure she felt was of no consequence; the feelings between the seeress and her protector mattered little to Caius.
"From this day forth…I shall be your warden and soldier, Yeul." He plunged his blade into the ground, and knelt down before her. Caius had never cared to use titles or royalties while around the seeress, and though it might be considered impudence, it was actually that he respected her power enough to consider her equal to him.
For all of the creatures he had hunted, all of the battles he fought, this was the sole moment of pride for him. Despite having not lived in Paddra all of his life, he still felt the position of guardian was best suited towards the strongest fighter, and had yearned for that role ever since coming here from the wilds of Gran Pulse. Now that he could finally claim it as his own, his excitement could not be matched. He was the one with power, the one able to protect those who needed it most, the one able to fell any and all foes who stood in his path.
His hair and the feathers tied within it fell upon his face has he bowed his head in deference. Caius stayed like that for a moment, before standing up. He sheathed his blade and stared at Yeul, awaiting her response towards his triumph. Soon he would receive his marking as a l’Cie, and truly be fit for the role. He need only hear the words from Yeul, and his victory would be solidified..
Yeul was not a fan of the loudness of the crowds, but she knew there would be rituals to follow soonafter their proper meeting. In a previous life, she'd seen him before as a young, young man in the out lands but thought nothing of him until she knew he was the successor to Nero. She remained still as a river with no mouth, staring down from where he was inside the square as Caius began to approach her from the side steps to where the throne area was. The people of Paddra watched the new guardian ascend the steps leading to the high-rise throne area and in the presence of the fairy-like empress herself, their eyes were wide with wonder to see a historical event unfold in their city.
Yeul, however, was not so happy and her inside were struck with a deep mourning that she refused to display. After a time, she heard the cheers turn to hisses and boos, this frustrated her to some degree because she thought they they crowd was ready to accept the new guardian. The idea that Nero's former body had dissipated into pyreflies had some how taken a moment to settle with the people who felt scorn that "their" hero was gone, but it seemed to be that way for most of the older people, the adults and elderly in the audience. She knew that it was not the lack of acceptance, but refusal to accept that a barbarian from the outlands could do a better job. Yeul grew more upset as Caius neared, but her expression steeled over as more time went on.
The silver-haired maiden stayed stationary as Caius moved closer until he bent down, submissively to her with his blade forced into the stone. The Priests from the Order of Paddra approached Yeul, a taller one had a sneer fixated on his mouth, speaking such ill words of the new guardian to Yeul. "Must we accept this, my Queen? He is a barbarian from the outlands, he is not one of us."
The law of the Farseer's that Yeul must have a guardian was absolute, she turned only her head in his direction and nodded. Suddenly, she rose her arm above her head to gain the attention of the crowd and waited until it was dead silence.
"Caius of the Outlands, you may not be of nobility or bred from Paddra, but you have proven yourself worthy. We may celebrate my new guardian." Yeul stated with despondence licking the softness of her tone, easily heard by all. She seemed mesmerized by Caius as he slowly rose from his spot beneath her, her eyes remained on him until he was at his full height that towered her own. Peridot eyes fell on his face as she motioned only with her head for him to follow her, she needed some space from the public eyes anyway, Yeul walked strangely, her left leg seemed to be a bit lame because her girlish sway seemed a bit off.
Yeul walked towards the large home for the Seeress and many who worked there. The moment they reached a long hallway towards a staircase, she allowed herself to express true sadness. "There will be a few rituals concerning your guardianship, I will explain them privately."
The Nascent Guardian
The crowds watched the fight that had only started moments ago over Caius' predecessor forcing him to move forward and take his proper L'cie marking. The cheers were torn between the young upstart; Caius and the current guardian; Nero. Nero trained Caius to replace him, but often asked for the two to fight and now it had come into play. The shouts and cries of the audience were making matters worse, possibly forcing them to act in ways they usually wouldn't out of pride.
All were there with the exception of one body; The seeress. Yeul was attending to one of her many duties as Queen, but when she heard of the fight between them, she stopped. Nero had been with her since she was a child, she knew she would have to attend and act indifferent to the situation. The moment the two began fighting, she felt her eyes burn and they glowed for one moment or two as she came to her knees. Yeul had seen Nero get struck down, then Caius' descend into madness afterwards; the consequences were great and she wondered if she should intervene. The last two brief memories she experienced were flashes of him fighting a brown-haired youth and a pink-haired female, but nothing more.
The vision ended, she could not tell anyone of it due to the restrain she had to keep. Yeul's lithe arms positioned themselves to her sides, her knees pulled in and she used her own leverage to stand up on her own legs. At first, she was a little wobbly as she started walking in the direction of the balcony where she could see the two. Their blades were swift and moved with such fury that it was difficult for her to keep up with the action, even if she already knew the outcome. The fact that she'd known the violet-haired male was going to come to Paddra was no coincidence, rather he be there as a teenager or as a man, he showed himself in the past. Yeul's feelings on the situation were deeply depressing, even her past selves were starting to mourn before the act had been finished.
The crowd knew that Yeul was watching, some looked to her for the answer of the outcome, but nothing showed on her face. Yeul raised her forearms, resting her palms down against the smooth surface to continue to watch intently. Yeul's mourning would have to be private, hidden from the view of the public or a riot could start based on her feelings alone, as Nero was an old fan favourite. The moment that her eyes fixated on the older male, her heart began to sank deep inside her chest. The small teenager watched in horror, her eyes and heart felt all the worry that her face could not. Yeul had already foreseen this future, she knew that it was absolute and could not be changed, but that did not mean she had to openly enjoy this dismal fortune. Slowly, she shifted her hands onto the stone ledge and easily positioned herself to lean up and move her legs around so they would hang off; this would be where she set perched during the battle.
Every thrust she could feel, it was as if the two were fighting with her in between them. Yeul's heart felt like it dropped with every swing of Caius' blade, every spin that Nero used to evade until there was nothing more to evade. Yeul thought of how it would be easy to change the fate of the fight, force Caius to lose through a distraction, a magical intervention or anything to keep her current Guardian from dying. While she had already seen the outcome, her eyes fixated solely on Nero but she could not see him be brutalized; Nero saved her from these types of things usually. Yeul was forbidden from showing such a reaction, lest she wanted to give the people a reason to dread.
Unable to look away, her eyes watched the final motion between the two. Caius' blade went across Nero's abdomen and splattered blood and entrails on the crowd and ground; Nero was dying and she could not go to him, her eyes felt they were welling up. Yeul was no longer interested in the battle, the combatants, the rituals or the crowd. Using the brief opportunity to display actual sadness on her face, she went to the stairs where her throne was and the child-like empress seated herself on it.
Yeul, although a very mature seeress, was still an eighteen year old and the presence of her Guardian dying said volumes to her. At least, from this position, she could not be seen by the crowd, she could garner enough time to get control of her emotions.
Notes left by former seeresses always spoke of a day when Nero would fall by a ruthless hunter from the out lands. The man with the violet hair and eyes.
Yeul's tears fell for the moments when the rituals were being performed and the crowd was shouting loudly for her to hear that Caius was the new guardian. Nero had been met by several Yeuls before him, he was plenty old by this time and truly loved -- there would no room left in her heart for another, especially one so brutal from the Outlands. During these small moments, she leaned back in the throne and gazed peridot orbs skyward until she could control herself. The sky was Yeul's sanctuary because it was something that would never change, never die and never disappoint.
Finally, she was much calmer. Yeul's eyes gazed on Cocoon from where she was, she always thought to go there and escape the occurring fate of this world. Yeul needed to show her face now, she couldn't continue hiding in solitude from the crowds and the rituals taking place. Easily, two yellow boots touched the stone flooring and took her to where she was standing before to overlook the crowd as Nero disappeared.
Such cold indifference on her face, it was like she felt nothing at all for her former guardian.
I'll see you again, Nero.
"......" She lowered her head, disappointment. From where she stood, a stare of discontentment stared at Caius' person down below. Her silence attracted the crowd, causing them to also go silent as many took their eyes from the Queen Seeress to the barbarian from the Outlands the uprooted Nero.
A thought not reached.
The effortless sound of the wind wisps through silvery strands belonging to Yeul, she set with her body facing the waves and the incoming tide. The ocean gave nothing to be desired, it was dark as a night sky against the blinding sun, but she was thankful that a nearby rock formation kept her out of the light. She kept her eyes closed, taking in the breeze with her long wait. Now that she had this pitiful living body, it was in need of both heat and chill when it was necessary along with food and water. Yeul was tangible again, even in her body charged with Etro's powers and gifts bestowed upon her; she was weak and in need of protection. The pale Seeress was not without visions, but she was without the endless dying that went along with it now. She was lucky that the paradox had been resolved by her becoming a goddess. Then again, she was a paradox again; a god with a human life. While she awaited for Caius to arrived, she kept her eyes closed until she heard his voice or some inkling that he was within her reality.

"Are you fucking kidding me, Snow? Is there ever a day where you aren't making my life hell, seriously? :| I'm sick of this." -- Hope's face.
I always wondered what kind of roleplay would happen during the after canon stuff. I always saw 700 AF Yeul and the other Yeuls as different people. The idea of Noel & Yeul living on an island in the tropics is not too far fetched, but was the point to be around people?
