Day 15 - 75 Booked
I did my reading sprint in the morning and got to page 370 in The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt. Can't say that I was surprised by what happened, and I can't say that I'm bummed... but I am happy that Theo is back in NYC and that I'm at the start of Part 3. I am very curious how these experiences are going to be shaping his adulthood.
Gunna read a little more before bed :)
Day 14 - 75 Booked
I started off the day by finishing Strange Houses (pg 96-193). It was definitely an interesting premise. I rated it 3.5/5 though because I wish the characters didnt know the details of the murder right away. I did like how the ending was sort of ambiguous with a taste of unreliable narration. Overall, it was a good time I just felt it could have been executed differently.
I think I'm going to read a bit more of The Goldfinch before going to bed tonight.
Day 12 & 13 - 75 Booked
After reading The Goldfinch pretty consistently, I decided to take a tone break with a new book that I bought right before starting this challenge that has had a chokehold on me conceptually - Strange Houses by Oketsu.
In these two days I read pgs 254-306 of The Goldfinch and I now have no doubt that Theo's father is up to something, especially after asking for Theo's information to open a bank account. Dude's definitely going to commit fraud or something and I am so worried for Theo. Also, Theo's 100% struggling with addiction, or at least it's getting to that point.
And then I started Strange Houses, which has intrigued me since I saw it on BookTok. I'm really enjoying the different format and premise so far, but it definitely requires you to suspend your disbelief in the first 10 pages. Because why did the character immediately jump to murder house (and then be right??? Maybe???). I read pgs 13-96 and will be finishing it today, I assume.
Day 10, 11 - 75 Booked
Im on page 254 of the Goldfinch by Donna Tartt and Im really enjoying this friendship that Theo has, though I'm sure it won't end well. Interested to see where the relationship wkth his dad goes. This book is giving Pachinko vibes so far, which isn't a bad thing.
Day 9 - 75 Booked
The Goldfinch pg 183-217. Ok, so I'm getting like huge Series of Unfortunate Events vibes from Theo's Biological Dad and Xandra. I have the feeling that they're up to no good and I hope Theo goes back to NYC soon. Like there's no way his dad is cool all of the sudden, people are AFTER him in NYC like surely they'll follow him to Vegas. Maybe I'm reading too much into but I have a feeling there's going to be a major plot point soon.

Day 8 - 75 Booked
I read page 160-183 in the Goldfinch by Donna Tartt. Theo is finally starting to feel like a person again after the death of his mother. We're starting to get some of his family history in chunks. This book doesn't seem like the type to have an edge-of-your-seat rising action, but I am curious to see where it goes and what the "conflict" will be.
We were predicted to get like 15 inches of snow...we did NOT get that much, thank goodness, and the temperature is supposed to rise again. Skill looking to be a real cozy reading morning for Day 9.

Day 7 - 75 Booked
Today was a good reading day. I continued The Goldfinch (page 101-160) by Donna Tartt. I'm really enjoying the character development as the protagonist connects with the young girl also affected by the tragedy. After my 45 minute reading sprint, I streamed some Tiny Bookshop. We're in a winter storm warning so the cozy reading vibes were immaculate. Then I read some extra before bed. Here's to hoping this week at work goes smoothly!

I've been reading every day, I just forget to make the posts lol
Between the two days, I read pages 59-101 of The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt. I am really enjoying the book so far - it seems like more of a slow-burn slice of life type of novel and I'm curious what the "big event" is going to be. I'm enjoying my time, though, and I think it is becoming easier for me to focus during the 45 minutes. I am working really hard to not think about work in my spare time, but it has been challenging for me. I think being more purposeful with journaling before reading will be helpful for that - getting the thoughts out of my brain and on to the page.
Day 3 & 4 - 75 Booked
Day 3: I continued reading The Goldfinch, but I shouldn't have waited until the evening to start reading for 45 minutes. I fell asleep halfway through the timer (pg 25-34). Evidently my body needed me to stop. I don't know what it's been - work probably - but my energy levels lately has been ROUGH.
Day 4: Did my reading sprint in the morning this time, which works out so much better for me considering I have to flex time for work this morning. Had a hard time waking up, but did not struggle to continue reading (pg 34 - 59). I'm enjoying the book so far, but this vhunk of pages was wild. Tartt really represented well with words what I can only imagine traumatic shock post-explosion to feel like. As a reader, I was equally as confused as our protagonist. Almost felt like stream of consciousness writing. 600+ pages remaining and I can't imagine what else this book has in store.
Day 2 - 75 Booked
My TBR wheel decided that my next read was going to be The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt! I started reading the book in the morning, but I was having a real hard time focusing. Work has been stressful and my mind would not focus on the book. I had to reread multiple times.
The Goldfinch (pg 5-25/771). Gunna take me some time at this rate.

This morning I continued reading The Giver - Lois Lowry (Page 149-211/225).
Then I finished it after the timer went off.
3.75/4 Stars.
I really enjoyed reading this book. I thought that it was interesting to see the character development as Jonas gained more information about the world around him and what came before. I found that as the book was nearing towards the end, that the pacing had almost become too fast - as if the author was just trying to wrap things up. I found myself thinking "Well...okay?" But, then again, it seemed that this book was intended for younger audiences. Overall, I had a swell time with this book.
It was too early for me to remember to drink a bottle of water, but no fret - it'll happen later in the day. Building habits is a slow process and imperfection does not equal failure.
Since I finished a book, I spun my TBR wheel and landed on (**drum roll**) The Goldfinch - Donna Tartt. I've owned this book for years, so I am excited to start reading it!

Tomorrow, I will be starting the 75 Booked Challenge! Very much like the 75 Soft/Hard challenge, it is a habit building challenge centered around achieving reading goals.
These are the guidelines that I will be working on achieving each day:
Read for 45 minutes a day. Some people doing this challenge are aiming to complete two 45 minute reading sprints, but I do not feel that my current work schedule will allow me to achieve that. If I read more, that's great - but I don't want to feel like it is a chore. Also, I am not counting audio books into the 45 minutes.
Drink a bottle of water during the reading sprint. This one is important for me because I don't drink enough water in the day. My water bottle is 20oz.
Book buying ban during the 75 days. Yeah... it's for the best. Not counting books I buy for other people.
Journaling. I think I am going to document my reading progress here, but I would also like to physically journal more often too. My job is mentally taxing and it is a good way to let off steam.
And that's it! If I start this challenge tomorrow, it will be completed by January 17th! Just in time to start a new journal for the new year and work on new reading goals.
Thinking of starting 75 Booked reading challenge tomorrow. Just bought three books today and my physical TBR is like 80 books at this point....
