Yes, reading up on Norway’s viking history is really interesting because of the application of anthropology in conjunction with geography.

Norwegian vikings were so notorious for being The Raiders of Scandinavia, because their geography is so mountainous that it divided many people into smaller, territorial tribes (though, iirc, even jarls in Norway still were quite amicable to surrounding neighbors! But with foreign territories, berserker vikings definitely wanted to pillage “just because they could.”). Denmark, on the other hand, with flatter lands, had more of a “community” because of it—and I theorize it also made them prone and impressionable to Christianization.

When you put those two very different people together to create DenNor, it makes for a very attractive dynamic!!!!!!!!

Weed flower bouquets and gifts. When that doesn’t work, he’ll try to show Nor how ruthless of a Viking he can be. Nor is often not paying attention unless Den is the obstacle to cross.

Hospitality was, apparently, a really important thing during the Viking age. I think Berserker Viking Nor will really begin to notice Jarl Den’s community and status if Nor ever visits, and he might envy that.

So, short answer, by showing hospitality!

I think Den, from the start (Viking Age), endeavored in several romantic overtures towards Nor to get his attention. I think Nor only began to reciprocate once the Viking age was well over. In terms of physical intimacy, I like to think they shared their first kiss when Queen Margarete I was a young girl.

It may seem like an entire flip of how they defined their relationship, but sooooo much took place in the dissolution of the Viking age (like 1066?) all the way to when Margarete became queen (in the late 1380s)
