A Fabulous Wood-Engraved Feathursday

Yesterday we presented  a selection of wood engravings from One Hundred Fables, written and selected by the English painter James Northcote and printed by British printer and wood engraver John Johnson for the London print publisher George Lawford in 1828. The book includes 280 wood engravings. Northcote devised the designs for the illustrations that head each fable, and the noted British wood engraver William Harvey, one of Thomas Bewick’s favorite students, drew Northcote’s designs on wood, which in turn were engraved by several accomplished wood engravers. Today we bring you some of the feathered engravings from this book. Shown here from top to bottom:
