curiously watched andor after someone told me it’s nothing like I expect it to be and am shell-shocked. a nuanced political thriller about how fascism and genocide come into fruition told through multiple angles and different parties at play. masked as a streaming action slop franchise tv show

it’s not lost on me the irony of it being a disney+ baby but I have to commend the creators for using a relatively sanitized vehicle like Star Wars to say a message so brutally and uncomfortably crucial

something in particular that really struck me as I watched was the insistence on giving the empire real faces. there’s a distinct lack of legions of unknown stormtroopers that most SW viewers are familiar with. instead it’s traded for humans dressed in attire that looks intentionally like modern day police enforcement, especially in s2. we see the camera closeup on their faces over and over

one of the best things I’ve watched this year (and I watch a lot of tv)

im such a fan of how Andor painted revolution as a movement of a million shitty, desperate, deserving-better people throwing their bodies on the gears, the machinery, and the levers of power. One way out and it might not even be your way out. Maybe there was never a way out for you. But you helped carve the way for everyone behind you, and isn't that worth everything?
