Surrealist office space in a preserved/adaptive reuse of a 1907 church - Oklahoma City, OK (early 1990s)

Designed by HTB, Inc.

Included the third image since it's an example of a surreal, mostly forgotten trend in postmodern spaces: adding mannequins/contemporary 'statues' as a part of the overall decor (outside of their more typical applications in store windows, modeling clothing in department stores, etc.); in this case construction workers perpetually 'repairing' the old church facade.

Foodlife - forested food hall in the Water Tower Place Mall - Chicago, IL (1993)

Designed by Marve Cooper Design & Dorf Associates, Foodlife was part of the Lettuce Entertain You Enterprises group of restaurants/food courts, and was one of the first in the new wave of food halls that would take off in earnest in the 2000s & 2010s.

The surf-side of the 2000s 'Ultramodern Revival' aesthetic, especially the extensive use of the kitschy wood-paneling motif. There's a bit of a Frutiger Aero vibe in the third image with the liquid-pattern wall panels & rounded-edge divider with the glowing blue inset.

Sort-of a spin-off concept from The Cheesecake Factory, similarly designed in that extravagant 'Old World Luxe/McTuscan' style very popular from the late 90s to the onset of the Great Recession

This is such a specifically late 80's - early 90's look; I don't know what it would be called -- has elements of Whimsicraft, maybe Whimsigoth, and a style I've been trying to pin down for a while; like a whimsical, theatrical, handcrafted version of a French boudoir?

Legal Sea Foods - Sunrise, FL (1999)

“Legal Sea Foods is a 10,000-square-foot restaurant that seats 350 guests. To maximize the vast ocean of space, Dorf Associates created a subterranean-themed atmosphere.

On the exterior, a 30-foot-tall illuminated fish and globe pylon constructed of metallic painted aluminum marks the dramatic entrance. Inside, a 10-foot abstract backlit schooner, with stainless-steel riggings, marine-wood details and a moving-wave light projector, takes center stage.

Sea creatures can be found at every turn. A railing dividing the dining and reception rooms is an abstracted eel swimming through a net. And by the raw bar, two tones of blue linoleum flooring, cut into a free-form design, are embedded with "schools" of stainless-steel fish. Behind the bar, curved wine racks evoke waves.

Curved banquettes divide the bar and dining areas. The millwork, composed of horizontal wood bands, mimics the deck of a sailing ship. And throughout the dining room, abstracted fish floor lamps uplight floating stainless-steel panels.”
