How To Use Social Media Responsibly
1. Use Appropriate Language
- Social Media users should be polite and respectful. To achieve this, they should refrain from using languages that might seem hurtful to others. They should keep from using profanities and be sensitive to maintain a certain level of formality and friendliness. They should not use violent or harsh words because it can be taken seriously by others and cause feuds online.
2. Set Boundaries.
- Every post we make will be accessible to anyone we allow it to. For that reason, we should be careful on what we show the world online and who we permit to see it. If not, the things we share can be used against us by social media predators. It should be common knowledge not to post private information like one’s address, personal number, and pictures that are inappropriate. We should only add people that we know of as friends and learn how to keep certain things private.
3. Do not Steal.
- Plagiarism is a form of stealing. That is why we should be cautious on what we share on social media. When gathering information from different sources, one should always remember to give credit may it be just a simple picture or text. Many people take ideas without permission and claim it is their own for different purposes. We should not condone this behavior in whatever form. In using social media, every individual should learn to acquire information in the right and legal way.
4. Is it Legit?
- Social Media has now become a venue for spreading fake news. One should know how to determine the accuracy of their sources and veer away from informations that are not factual. If an individual encounters this situation, he/she should report it immediately to prevent misinformation. Social Media users should not let themselves be easily deceived by these type of things.
5. Promote Positivity
- One of the rising issues in this modern generation is “Cancel Culture”, a phenomena that is birthed by Social Media. Social Media is a platform for voicing out one’s opinions but it shouldn’t be at the expense of someone’s well-being. “Cancel Culture” is a form of cyberbullying and it should not be tolerated in any way. Everyone should be an instrument in making the online world a positive environment.
