Soft sunlight filled the empty hallway as Evelyn made her way down it, her feet clicking on the tile floor as she went. She was meant to be in class, but Mr. Welton was such a bore, always droning on and on about numbers. Numbers were of no importance to Evelyn, they were stuffy, factual things that had nothing to do with fairy stories or dashing pirates or princesses in towards. It was too glorious of a day to be spent inside. It was too glorious of a day to be spent with numbers. It was too glorious of a day to be spent alone. Which brought her to this classroom door. Evelyn knocked as she pushed the slightly cracked door all the way open. All the eyes turned to her.
“I’m so sorry to interrupt but the headmaster asked me to bring Miss Egerton into his office,” she smiled sweetly, at the teacher, not letting herself look at Florence because she knew she would start giggling.
