Finished the hunter's mark beaded embroidery! I'll see how the edges hold up~
Enjoy a 25% off everything sale at my Etsy and Ko-fi stores! (and this graphic I made on a 15 year old laptop dug out of storage!) Use SUM25 at my Ko-fi shop for the discount. Commissions are closed for now because my art computer is being healed (hopefully soon)
How I Made It: Hunter Baby Great One Squid Plush!
This is my first time trying to make a custom plush with my own plans, so I am not an expert by any means, but I thought I'd share anyways! Feel free to riff and improve~
Materials: Plush fabric like minky for the body is what I had. If the material has a 'fur direction' it's nice to have the body pieces all cut in the same direction, so that it can be pet from head to tail smoothly like a creature. :3 I stuffed it with pellets for weight (a beanie baby like feel). The tendrils I made from chenille yarn that has a texture similar to the body (almost slippery feeling).
To be palm sized, make the the body pieces 5 inches long, including the 1/4 inch seam allowance. It could be scaled up (or down?) pretty easily I think, if you have yarn with a matching thickness for the tendrils.
The three body pieces are sewed together along the sides, making a cone. The circle piece is the face, which I sewed partially on, put stuffing in, and then finished closing it with a ladder stitch. Alternative: Maybe the face piece could be omitted and face edges drawn together to make a puckered mouth shape instead, but I haven't tried it myself.
The tendrils are sewed on the face of the finished body using a matching thread colour. I use 3 pieces of varying size to make 6 tendrils (from half to full body length), sewing them at 6 places along the edge of the face.
Now you have a silly eldritch cigar to toss around~
My most ambitious art attempt yet! Learning by imitating famous art I love has been helpful: Wanderer above the Sea of Fog by Caspar David Friedrich in this case. Many hours and much learning later:
Winter Lantern in Wanderer above the Sea of Fog
"What reason, I ask, a reason so much vaster than the other, makes dreams seem so natural and allows me to welcome unreservedly a welter of episodes so strange that they could confound me now as I write? And yet I can believe my eyes, my ears; this great day has arrived, this beast has spoken. If man’s awaking is harder, if it breaks the spell too abruptly, it is because he has been led to make for himself too impoverished a notion of atonement."
-Andre Breton, Le Manifeste du Surréalisme (1924)
It’s the final day of @tolkienvillainsweek! Mini Mairon gets to hot tub in a cup of tea today. ♨ I couldn’t get him any lava, but hopefully this is hot enough. :]
Thanks so much for this new event! I had fun each day using different art styles for so many of my fav villains. I’ve been fed well with all the villain art posted by everyone else too. I’m still going through and thoroughly enjoying it! :D
@saurons-pr-department‘s tags x’D
More little sock-puppet-esque John with the silly feets! I tried to think of a few things he would put on a sign, but this is a classic.
Blank version under the cut for further shenanigans:
Grumpy tattered piece of an eldritch god who got his cloak stuck in an closing inter-dimensional portal 💛
Beyond 'angry banana peel' I wasn't sure what to add to this cartoony doodle of him - until I realized he's so much funnier when I give him stupid little feeties
My Fëanorian star and silmaril pins are ready! Thank you thank you for waiting and being excited with me. There are 3 grades available, with more photos and details on the listings on my shops - Etsy and Ko-fi. (They are a bit cheaper on my Ko-fi if you are able to use that site) ✴️💎🧝♂️💖💎✴️
I got to take a class on acrylic paint! :D It was focused on different thicknesses and textures of the paint available and how to mix them and layer them. This was the final painting I did, after a day and half of exercises and practice, and I'm so happy with what I used. High flow for the sky to heavy gel and crackle paste for the tree and lichen.
Had an idea, and it actually turned out so cool~ The hunter's mark from Bloodborne done in droplet shaped garnets!! Maybe I'll finish it in a drop shape with a beaded edge?
Bloodborne babies drawn from memory and one choir member drawn from reference (so many glorious clothing layers).
Would you like a h'or derv hors d'oeuvre? No? *spins around on the spot and presents what appears to be the same tray* Would you like a cigar?
I made more good hunter squid children! :D I'll see if I can write proper instructions on how I make them.
Bonus photo of me making one that's giving me cuteness aggression because the funnel I use to fill them with pellets looks like a binky too big for he got damn face:
My Feanorian pin: now with a test silmaril! I just had this crystal for bookmarks but I think I might use a different crystal that is cut with an 8-sided star in the facets. Maybe a slightly bigger crystal too? If you think the gem could be bigger than this let me know.
Ahh small shiny things: hard to take pictures of but like a lot of beautiful things in life they're worth it ✨
la laa laaaaaaaa~! Winter lantern on your dash! Scroll quick while she's looking away! Especially if you have high insight.
Been working on her as part of a bigger illustration, but I'm really happy with how I got all her wonderfully horrendous textures. Are their dresses completely covered in blood and viscera, or are they made from flayed flesh instead of fabric?
The pins are in! The pins are in!!
The red colours are perfect: the light red almost seeming to glow against the gold in shadow. The background is more purple than blue, but I still think it does the magical starry sky effect I was going for. ⭐ Now I need to match a chain or jump rings to the metal tone, and attach the silmari-ish gems I got for these. :D
