I ended up designing the Unknown in Hollow Knight universe! I took praying mantis as a reference for his form. His claws imitate his red fire axe. His mask is misshapen and doesn't seem to fit him well. His neck is long and twisted. His abdomen is also very bloated.

Just like in Dead by Daylight, the Unknown's flesh is just a suit holding his true essence within. I also chose the praying mantis species for the Unknown because these insects are frequently infested with horsehair worms of genus Chordodes. In real life, the worm puppeteers the mantis to jump into water, where it emerges and swims away. Horsehair worms control mantises kinda like body suits, so it seemed fitting for a bug version of Unknown to really be a parasitic worm inside an empty, decaying host body.

I was looking for the Legion refs for my upcoming mini comic and then I was like WAIT doesn't their mask look like a BUG MASK FROM HOLLOW KNIGHT?!!

Every other thing was thus delayed until I got this out of my system XD

This bug Legion has a knife of course; beetle wings for Feral Frenzy, when he flies extremely fast stabbing people; and several defaced bug masks hanging from his coat at all times... Are these his masks? Did he take them from the bugs he killed? Did he loot some corpses on the way here?

This was SO fun to design, maybe I'll do more killers if the inspo comes down upon me
