365 Days of Rumbelle | Day 216
My Montana Love
Belle was convinced that her father hated her! He claimed that he was only doing this for her own good, but she believed differently. He had to hate her. Why else would he have cut her off and then sent her off to have her “taught the value of money and hard work” as he said. He also claimed that she spent excessively and on things she didn’t need.
Thanks to him she had lost her friends Morgan and Kelly who had hung up on her when she told them of her fate. And it hadn’t been a fluke as she had originally thought. They had also blocked her number and blocked her on social media too. And it was all her father’s fault! He was wrong when he told her the girls had only used her for her wealth. They were the only friends she had been for years.
Still, maybe it wouldn’t be so bad. After all, she was going to be staying at Gold Ranch with the man she had secretly had a crush on for years. She had met Lachlan through her father of course, the two men becoming friends and then business partners. Which of course meant that Belle saw a lot of the man.
It had broken her teenage heart when he’d gotten married to Milah all those years ago. In fact if she were to delve deeply and look at when her behavior went into a nosedive, that was one such time it happened. What started it all though was when she lost her mother and felt that she couldn’t or shouldn’t go to her father about it since he was always so busy.
Before she knew it, she had come to resent her father and had a spending addiction. The very addiction that she was now standing in front of Lachlan’s house for. Much as her heart still loved Lachlan Gold, she doubted he even knew her as anything other than little Belle French. But who knew? Maybe over time that would change.
Doubtful, but a girl could hope.
Even so, she drew out a long resigned sigh before knocking on the door.
@everdetermined
Being a single father wasn’t exactly easy. Especially when one also ran their own ranch. Juggling the needs of your livelihood and your child was something that Lachlan Gold understood far too well, so when his friend asked for help with that same problem, he was happy to oblige. He could use more help anyway, because he may have the best damn ranch hand in all of Montana, but Dove was still just one ranch hand. And while Dove was great with the ranch work, he wasn’t as good at things like helping Bae with his homework, something that took Lachlan far longer to figure out than he’d like to admit some nights. (What the hell had the school systems done with math? He didn’t remember it the way it was taught now.)
So all in all, he was glad that Belle French was coming to live and work with him and Bae. He imagined it would be hard at first, what with the young lady used to spending so much money and everything. But that was why he was helping. It would be easier for him to say no to Belle than it would for her father. And he knew Belle was smart. Eventually she’d come around, he was sure. She just needed some time, and Lachlan was willing to put in the time for her.
Bae knew Belle was coming too, and was quick to dash to the door, long before his father could get to it. Bae loved the idea of Belle coming to live with them. It was all he’d talked about since he heard of it. He was partly glad that his father had more help, but also probably just excited for the change. And maybe a bit relieved too, because despite things being more peaceful since Milah left, they were also almost unbearably quiet. This might be just was they needed.
“Hey Belle!” the eight-year-old greeted their new ranch hand. “You’re here! This is going to be the best! Do you need help carrying anything in?” Lachlan had moved out of his study then, standing in the door of it and watching his son with a small smile on his lips. That was Bae, so kind and helpful. “I can show you to your room too! Are you thirsty? I can get you water!” Maybe too helpful.
“Bae, slow down a notch,” he said with a small chuckle. “Belle’s not going anywhere. Give her a moment to breath.”
@tmvoldemort continued from here
Professor Riddle usually emotionless face bent. Just a ghost of a smile crossed his lips. Quicker then it appeared he smoothened it.
"Of course there is." He said
"Only, it is that sort of magic I am to teach you to fight." But there was no hiding that Severus had said the right thing.
"For those unaware of what ah-" Riddle checked the roll call," Severus Snape is it? Of what Mr. Snape is referring too, it would be called Expelliarmus."
Riddle now addressing the class on the very basic of defensive spells. Every so often he would turn to Severus to confirm some truth. A good many things they had not even crossed yet in their textbooks. But Riddle held the crowds interest.
He even winked down at Snape, "As you are all first years-I should not be starting so early. However-"
That forbidden nature had them hooked. He paired them up to practices together. Riddle knew that none were strong enough to do much harm. In fact the excitement had made them better listeners.
By the end of class as they filed out with homework orders, Riddle held Snape back. Waiting till they were left alone.
"Do you still want to know how to keep from being disarmed? Even if it is illegal?"
It seemed like Severus had asked a good question, and he felt himself fill with pride at that. He was only a first year, but it seemed he was already on track to doing well. He was disappointed to hear that a spell to prevent disarming was dark, but happy to hear his Professor talk about different defensive spells, even if he knew most of it from reading ahead in the textbook.
And his teacher even winked at him before letting them all practice the defensive spells. Really, it was one of his favorite classes he’d had thus far, and he found himself very excited to learn more from Professor Riddle.
He stayed when the professor asked him to, curious as to why. And he frowned when the man asked if he wanted to learn something illegal. This wasn’t a trap, was it? To trick him into saying he wouldn’t mind doing something illegal only to arrest or expel him? But no, surely not. The way his professor had winked at him earlier, the way he’d seemed pleased by Severus’s question, made it unlikely that the professor would try to trick him. Still, best to be careful.
“As you said earlier, some things that are dark are necessary. I’m not sure why a spell to protect from being disarmed would be illegal. Is… is there a good reason for that?” Because yes, Severus still wanted more than anything to learn how to keep from being disarmed, but not if the spell would replace his hand with his wand or something.

Please
Belle was ready to start spitting like a ticked off cat at any moment when he used his usual hyper gestures as he spoke to her and indicated the kitchen. She was at the point now where everything he was doing was setting her off and it was only made worse when he had the audacity to rudely order her into the kitchen. Did he really think she was going to be a good little maid and do as he ordered now? No chance. And if he really thought that, that would work he didn’t know her at all. Fair enough she hadn’t been there too long, but she thought he at least knew that she would get just as snippy with him if she was provoked.
And she was definitely provoked.
“Uh-uh you don’t get to just order me around and send me off when you’ve been a pain in my arse all day! Why are you picking on me this time? Are you bored or something? Well I’m not here for your amusement, Rumplestiltskin! I’m here in service for cleaning and maintaining the castle not to bother when you are so inclined! If you wanted to pick on me too without repercussions you should have added that into the contract!”
She was about to stomp her slipper clad foot and start poking him with her finger with every point she made. But then she thought better of it. She wasn’t a child and doing such things would be childish. She could just as easily give him a piece of her mind as she was already doing by glaring at him as she gave him the ear lashing of the century.
“Now if you’d like to ask nicely I might just get started on dinner or it may be late, depends on how angry I still am. It also depends on what you get served! If you don’t want cold cuts and cheese tonight then you may want to rethink antagonizing me anymore today!”
Rumple sighed to himself, annoyed. He’d known that his maid was going to get angry at him sooner or later, and all things considered she’d actually been rather patient with him. It was no wonder that her patience had finally run thin, it was just really bad timing.
Any other time he would have been amused, and maybe even impressed, by the way Belle claimed she should have put him bothering her into their deal. He’d think on that later though, if when he could get rid of the pesky knight. His maid being able to keep up with him and even outsmart him intellectually was something that both annoyed and thrilled him, and he’d have to think more about that because the feeling was… odd. Still, not ideal at this moment.
“Yes, fine, I don’t care what’s for dinner,” he told Belle with a wave of his hand. It likely wasn’t going to help, but he couldn’t exactly apologize since he wasn’t sorry. He was trying to help Belle after all, by keeping her away from the unknown intruder. So saying sorry wouldn’t work because he’d probably just sound sarcastic and make her more angry. Which he was probably doing anyway but it didn’t mater because if she didn’t move soon he’d be here. And Rumple really did not want to have to teleport his maid to the kitchen and lock her in there. That was not ideal.
“Cook, or don’t cook, whatever you like, just please go to the kitchen already,” he asked. A small part of him hoped that Belle would take his please as being polite enough and leave, but he doubted it. He always had a knack for being irritating and saying the wrong things, and Belle seemed to bring it out in him even more. It couldn’t be just because he found himself talking more in her presence. That would be ridiculous.
“This should be the last time today I bother you.” Hopefully. Unless that knight decided to search the kitchens again.
“Happy Father’s Day to every good father out there today. But especially to my Papa and big brother. They’d do anything for their family and always put them first. I love you guys!”
@everdetermined
“Hey, thanks sis. I love you too.” Neal didn’t always feel like the best dad, especially since he’d missed so much of his kid’s life. But he was trying his best, and he was glad that at least his sister thought he was doing a good job.
Rumple didn’t exactly think of himself as a good father. He wasn’t sure he ever had really. But could he argue the point if his own child thought he was a good one? Not really. “Thank you Avery. That means the world to me.”
@everdetermined needed a Father’s Day starter
Henry hadn’t had a Father’s Day with his bio dad before. Henry was excited, even if he was still getting to know Neal and didn’t know exactly what his father would like. Neal seemed to like video games and pizza, but that might just be him going along with Henry’s interests. Still, what father didn’t want a card and some time with their kid?
“Happy Father’s Day Dad!” Henry said, smiling as soon as Neal walked into the room. Since it was Father’s Day weekend, Henry was spending it with Neal. He often went in between a lot of houses, but he didn’t mind. It meant he got time with everyone he cared about. “So, here’s what I was thinking. We play some PlayStation, grab lunch, play more video games, and then go to Granny’s for dinner. What do you think? Sounds good?”
Henry would wait til the diner to give his father the card. That was his current plan anyway, but that might changed based on what Neal wanted to do.
Neal smiled instantly the minute Henry wished him a happy Father’s Day. He was so glad that he was able to spend this one with his kid, especially since he’d missed so many of the ones before. He knew his kid had a lot of parental figures, so it really meant a lot that Henry was willing to spend today with him. That alone was enough of a gift for him.
“Food and video games?” he asked, smiling even wider. “You know me so well. Though maybe we can do some sword practice in the morning instead? If I just play games and eat food all day, I’m going to lose this handsome body of mine,” he joked. It wasn’t something he was worried about, actually. He knew he wasn’t conventionally handsome, but he didn’t care. He was more worried about making sure he was a good parent for Henry, and good parents didn’t let their kids only play video games all day.
“Other than that, I say we follow your plan to the letter. Sound good to you?” This really would be the perfect day though, doing nothing other than spending time with his son. He was going to thank Henry’s other father figures for allowing him to hog Henry this year.
@thexforgottenxones gets a father’s day starter
It was a good holiday to have really, Severus thought. His dad definitely deserved to be celebrated. Well, his adopted dad did. But he wasn’t thinking about his biological father. Not today. Today he was thinking of his real dad and what he could do to make the day special for him.
In all likelihood Snow would have the perfect gift, or the perfect words to say to their dad today. She was always better with people than he was. Still, he wanted to do something, so he’d gotten a nice card at the convivence store. “Hey Dad,” he greeted the man with a small smile. “I was wondering if I could take you out for dinner? Snow can come too of course. I thought it would be a nice way to celebrate father’s day.”
