My next book is going to be called “My Year spent as a Beyoncé Stalker”.
If I get thrown in jail while researching it, even better. It will add another level of authenticity to my words.

The Electrical Storm
The scene is a London hotel bar, and the band are being interviewed by Q magazine. An hour into the proceedings, singer and lyricist Eddie Vedder is handed a copy of Melody Maker containing a review of their latest show. His eye runs over such remarks as “that sensitive, overblown, preening, gibbering pretence of a poet…suffers from a messiah complex…sings like Phil Collins with backache…his band are cock-rock strutters extraordinaire…” the brows begin to knot.
“This is unbelievable,” Eddie stares into the paper. “Just unbelievable. That guy’s not listening to music at all…” He continues perusing the review, face turning to thunder while the rest of us make nervous chit-chat. Eddie stands up. “Fuck these fucking people,” he tosses the paper aside with a scowl; then, turning to your innocent Q reporter, he adds with unconcealed loathing, “Fuck you… Fuck ‘em, fuck the whole thing. Because,” his voice rises to an anguished pitch, “it’s totally fucked. Totally ridiculous. That’s why I’m fucking quitting everything. I don’t need to be told anything. I remove myself from the whole situation. It’s unbelievable,” he stalks out of the bar. “Unbelievable.” Buy the book. Send £13 (UK), £16 (EU), £20 (rotw) to http://paypal.me/JThackray

Worthing, Bar 42 on Sunday
A note.
I have seen first shows from bands before. Melody Dog, in a bedroom in Glasgow. Formica Tops, London. Some others. There is a special kind of magic involved: the nerves, the laughter, the occasional friend shouting encouragement. I do not believe I have seen a first show for a few years. I saw one in Worthing a couple of days ago - a hurried car journey across to our neighbours, lured by the promise of another face. Worthing still stands proud, drunk, leaning. A cosy windswept magic.
I would like to impart some of that magic to you: a band called Men Oh Pause, they are playing their final (and third) song as I and Lauren need to leave because Isaac is demanding. The drummer is playing drums in a way me and Sadie have not seen before (this is good). The keyboard player recalls the magic of pragVEC, on the waspish synthesizer. This is good. The harmonies remind me of a tradition of female music that DID NOT EXIST until maybe 10 years ago. This is very good. Girlpool, specifically.
Two songs that fray at the seams, and threaten to topple worlds.
Two songs that are magic, practical magic. I wish I could hear the third.
I lean over to top promoter Kev and ask if he could put The Legend! band on with them here, 30-capacity venue. He smiles knowingly.
I take a handful of blurred photographs as proof.
P.S. It was not their first gig. I have no idea why I thought that. "Ah," but I hear you think. "It must have been the first gig for your kids." Uh, no. Isaac in particular has seen dozens including Sharon Jones, Kylie Minogue, Clag, Holly Golightly. Also, they played more than three songs. Huh. There was still a special kind of magic, however off target I am. Uh. Huh.
Tumblr
More than anything, Tumblr brings home my lack of friends.
I blog here. Occasionally people 'like' the blog, or reblog it. One or two. When people reblog my blog, invariably they'll get 15-20 upwards friends 'like' it.
I have one or two.
Dear Everett True I grew up in Lismore, NSW in a family with a lot of women. My mother was one of twelve, the eldest, and a Large Music Lover (LML). I remember piles of records, photos of mum vomiting into a bucket the night after a
David Bowie concert, and my first seven inch record was...

Had a couple of people re-Tweet a comment I made yesterday....
it's been a year since I was on Tumblr
since then, 22 people have started following me.

Someone just commented on Facebook it's hard to imagine a world without John Lennon, but easy to imagine a world without Everett True. So I removed him from my 'friends' list.
