takezai terunosuke as kijima rio, 2018.
fuckin dorks <3
kijima is a capricorn and kuzumi is a taurus, y’all
<3
but kijima is a dramatic bitch (affectionate) with a nicotine addiction and kuzumi is all time best boi and i think they belong together, honestly
highlights from the viki live comments on the novelist

very cool and sexy of kijima rio to have a character arc that encompasses every lana del rey album
I absolutely love how they nailed this specific writer mood with Kijimas character in Pornographer. He’s this depressed, odd, introverted man who writes smut for a living but struggles hard to manage his real relationships and his own feelings.
I got the impression that he’s kind of afraid of being happy and to let people near him (emotionally). But he is also wondering if happy people even have the need of reading / writing novels. And that’s such a real thing I often hear from writer or other artists. Since it’s usually a way to vent or flee reality. “Art never comes from happiness” is a quote I read some years ago and I see that with a lot of people and even with myself. Tbh I sometimes think that way too… can I still be creative when I am not depressed, where do I get the energy and motivation if I am not miserable enough to use creativity as an outlet? Maybe that’s why I like Kijima that much, he’s relatable if you are a depressed, weirdo and artist / writer.
But I also like his whole charisma. The way he moves and talks… I don’t know, am I the only one? Even though he is a masculine presenting man, he reminds me of a woman sometimes. But in a very subtle, classy way. Especially when he’s flirting or being seductive (or in bed, besides the fact that he’s a bottom). It’s an interesting characteristic, since he is a gay man who writes hetero erotic novels but mainly from a female characters POV or very centered on the female characters behavior and body.
I felt a disturbance in the Force and I rushed right over.
Ah, Kiji, favourite sad boy.
@scarefox I love your observation about him reminding you of a woman. I have the same experience. It’s not that he’s feminine, he just suddenly shifts and there’s a wholeass woman on the screen for a few seconds. And it’s always the classy but exceptionally jaded wine aunt who’s the coolest but also the most depressed person you’ll ever meet, who only shows up at funerals and speaks in long, melodic vowels, tinged with vocal fry.
I love him and I hate him. He’s so terrified of being happy because he’s been miserable for so long. Miserable is familiar, miserable is safe. And now there’s this beautiful boy who wants to pick the very best stars from the sky… Just for him. Fucking terrifying!!! He wants it so badly but also can’t allow himself to have it. And you, as the observer, think “Dude, why won’t you just, like, chill and let this happen???” I mean, I assume. Before I watched Mood Indigo, I felt the frustration but also familiarity, like “Yep, yes, this tracks, mhm, this is absolutely 100% true to life, good job, screenwriters!”
I rewatched The Pornographer a couple of days ago, incidentally. The friend with whom I watched it *hated* Kijima. I was so confused. Can’t you see how broken this man is? How desperately he wants to allow himself to be happy but has been hurt so deeply that he’s not sure he’d survive another blow??
On a completely weird note: Does Terunosuke Takezai look French to anybody else? No, I can’t explain further.
Hehe. Jaded wine aunt fits really good. Glad I am not the only one who sees his little fem moments.
Yea, with some characters and stories one might need to look deeper and accept that people have flaws and issues. Also, that not every relationship works perfectly (there is the same discours with Utsukushii Kare atm…sigh). There are so many people who prefer Mood Indigo over the other parts, because he’s with Kido and they are more saucy together but imo they are better of as distant friends. Kuzumi understands Kijima better and is willing to adjust to his quirks (without giving up his own needs). I watched the last movies yesterday. It was satisfying, showed more insights about Kijima and I fell in love with this whole series all over again :D
I don’t think Kuzumi fully understands Kijima. He’s a bit naïve and sweet and I feel like he has the “I can fix him” mindset. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I love that their whole dynamic is
Kuzumi: I’ll take care of you.
Kijima: It’s rotten work.
Kuzumi: Not to me. Not if it’s you.
But Kuzumi is a sweet little golden retriever and I think life hasn’t smacked him around enough that he can grasp the general fuckupedness of Kijima’s experience.
Well, yea you are right. But he’s trying with the little bits and pieces Kijima shows about himself.
Not to be greedy after 2x6 episodes, 2 short movies and one full movie… but I wish they would explore more of their relationship after Playback and Continued Spring Life.

"Kuzumi-kun, are you trying to seduce me?"
Kuzumi paused, inches away from the waistband of Kijima’s briefs, and looked up. Kijima was looking down at him quizzically. But there was a new tension in the room, a different tempo in their breathing, a sense of no turning back. Kijima’s soft voice was almost hoarse. Kuzumi had to bite the inside of his cheek to take the edge of his arousal before saying, “Is that all right with you?”
Kijima took off his glasses, folded them up with a click, and placed them on the nightstand. Then he reached down and took Kuzumi’s chin between his thumb and forefinger. “Kiss me.”
