thank you! thank you so much. you're such a sweet girl. very kind.
"Not at all! Everybirdie deserves a friend, right?"
Even pigeons and strange grey blobs.
cuz i was horribly disfigured in a freak accident. everyone hates me cuz i'm ugly no one wants ta look past that!!!
Oh!
"Oh gosh, that's terrible!" To think she'd asked about it so insensitively-- the poor grey blob!
"How they look isn't a good reason to hate anybirdie-- I-I'll be your friend!" Heavens knew that Hiyoko was used to not exactly fitting in, "we can wear pretty dresses and eat red meat and, and--!"
I just want to keep you so we can play dress up, have tea and sweets, and so I can buy you cute pretty things. I'm not taking you to a mothership.
... still suspicious.
"Why don't you have a face, then?" One didn't need the instincts of a proud hunter gatherer to be suspicious of a... thing with no face offering you something too good to be true. She wasn't an idiot!
To the shock of many.
Can I keep you?
What was it?! A human? But it didn't have a face-- an alien, then?! Was it looking for somebirdie to be a specimen?! Hiyoko was already involved in one shady experiment, thank you very much--

♔ anybirdie there?
[The voice, all too familiar for him. To make his expressions turn from a mischievous smile to a legit impressed look… this was saying something. That voice, and the uniform… he couldn’t really mistake her for anybody else.
Blinking a few times, as his mind tried to connect the dots. He was pretty sure that her head was still secure, hidden within the infirmary. As for her body, he already got disposed of it, after examining it so much. Her body was even starting to rot when he decided that it wouldn’t be a good idea to keep her around any longer, but…
… here she was.
Alive.
Breathing.
And more important than that, head still attached to her neck. How did Hiyoko managed to do that was beyond his knowledge… but not for long. Back then, the girl was always the one who approached him, seeking her own death so carelessly, like she was attracted to it for some unknown reasons… well, it didn’t matter.
First things first.
If she really did came back, would killing her again do the job? Or would the girl resurrect, even if the bare thought was something his scientific mind could not accept?]
- “… I should probably ask what are you doing here.”
[“…Because you are supposed to be dead”, he completed mentally. He was urging to try out this new theory, if she would finally die or not… but depending on her answer, Iwamine would have to reconsider his strategy.
‘What if she never died’ was still bugging him, a horrid theory that was buried in the depths of his mind.
This was ridiculous.
Human beings are not supposed to magically come back to life.
Someone like her could not defy science, even if the city defied science itself.]
Oh, well... that was a rather scary look levelled in her direction. She almost wondered if she had somehow done something to offend him... but there was a nagging sense déjà vu in that look, telling the girl that she'd definitely seen this person somewhere else before. Hiyoko felt she was being rather silly-- her insincts as finely honed as they were, there was no way she wouldn't remember meeting somebirdie before. And yet, there was still that sense of fimiliarality that kept her meeting his gaze with a quizzical look.
Thinking deeply on the matter in the lull in any kind of response, her mind slowly pieced two and two together--
Iwamine-sensei..?
While certainly human, the piecing gaze and slightly creepy aura were all highly reminiscent of the partridge in charge of St. Pigeonation's infirmary. It wasn't normal for birds to suddenly become human-- and vice versa, otherwise Hiyoko wouldn't have had so much trouble adapting and fitting in during her freshman year. It was impossible to deny the resemblance now that her mind had latched onto it, however, and she very nearly missed his question while lost in her wonderment.
What was she doing here?
"A-ah, well--" no time to be getting tongue tied!
"I don't know about anybirdie else, but I was asleep at home and... then I was here," the girl replied honestly, sounding a little sheepish. A hunter of her caliber, abducted in her sleep-- her ancestors would be ashamed if they knew of this. Her expression clouded for a moment, however brief, before curiosity got the better of her and she glances back up at the older male.
"What about you, Iwamine-sensei? Are you part of this experiment thing too?"
Never mind that she was calling him by name without even being certain it was the familiar doctor. But if it was Iwamine-sensei, then something scientific like this was right up his street, wasn't it?
♔ Caves & Bird jokes?
♚ Night time is when she always felt strongest…not that she disliked the day time or anything but this was when the stars would be out. She looked up at the sky and what did she see? Well of course the damn city lights! This was why Meru lived in one of those nice Rual area houses…They still weren’t as good as being smack middle in the forest but it was a much better site than looking at the city. Meru sighs heavily walking down the streets. So many people awake so late at night. Some people looked at her most likely thinking should a child be walking around here at night?
Then those who realized her earrings and more developed body - excluding her shortness - would be thinking she might be a pimps girlfriend or something. Cute face but a rebel…Of course that wasn’t Meru at all so all these accusations would be pissing her off. idiots. People are just damn Idiots. No one cold guess from her childlike expression that she felt this way, but they could tell that she was utterly surprised to hear what the girl she had just passed said. Cave? Well Curiosity brought in the cat.
“…Excuse me could you tell me why in the world are you looking for a cave?”
Meru hoped she wasn’t one of those hippies or Christopher McCandless people. Excluding their lives from civilization trying to be one with nature or something like that. This girl looked cute too what a shame if she really was like that! Meru would be keeping this thought hidden and just state another question that seemed obvious.
“You’re new to this city aren’t you?”
Hiyoko was thankful the other person had stopped-- such a cute looking girl too! Although she wasn't exactly wearing a very happy look... then again, it was getting late. Maybe she'd had a bad day? Possibly-- although she'd still stopped at the sound of that question, so that probably meant she was a kind enough person! At least, to the girl's rather simple way of thinking and judging people-- everybirdie deserved a fair chance, after all!
... though her question had only been met with more questions in turn.
"To live! A cave is the only place for a proud hunter gatherer, having shielded our ancestors from the cold for centuries--" all said with no hint of irony or humour in her tone. Nope, she was entirely serious and cheerful in her explanation, as though it were the most natural and obvious thing in the world. Heck, the girl even sounded a little proud. It wasn't like she ever noticed when people would comment on the unusualness of her rustic living space, even back at home. She was happy in her cave and that was all that mattered.
The second question caused her to nod, manners coming back to her as she bowed slightly, straightening once more before responding.
"I just got here today, actually! You're good at guessing," or maybe you're just very obvious, "I'm Hiyoko Tousaka and it's nice to meet you!"
♔ anybirdie there?
How unlikely it was to see this birdie wandering around outside.
Arms were wrapped around the items — books, to be precise — that he had snatched up at a library he’d found. Unlike his own he had to leave, however, not being able to stay in a corner and remain there. Perhaps it was better to check out several books at once to remain in his new place to hide away for weeks, something that appealed to him in the greatest way.
People here were just going to ignore him anyway. To indulge in the outside life, despite now being able to… wouldn’t that just make it harder on him back at home? Being alone with his books was much better, they didn’t hurt you unless it was something you did to cause that. A paper cut could only do damage if you weren’t paying attention, the same situation with that of other people.
… no, books were entirely different; they didn’t feel, they could only be felt.
Their words held such deep emotion, something he could submerge himself into to quell his solitude in that library. Reading them several times over never took that edge off, each read through helped you understand a new lesson and —
THUMP.
Pages bent as the books went fumbling to the ground, the sound of a voice having caught him off guard as. Instinct told him to just disappear, to hide himself away despite leaving the precious books behind.
Thankfully he didn’t listen to that initial instinct, everybirdie around him disappearing as he turned to stare at the one who startled and made his beating birdie heart soar through the roof. How familiar, seeing that face like it was the first time she had walked into the library.
Not that he paid much attention to her face back then, but the idea was the same.
” … ”
Mouth opened as if wanting to respond, silently staring at the familiar girl that could see him back home.
The thud had caught the girl's attention, looking around curiously-- it sounded like someone had dropped something... ah! Oh dear, someone had dropped their books-- that was no good at all. Hiyoko didn't waste any time in hurrying over to the stranger, worried that she may have startled him in some way. You could never be too careful-- somebidies weren't too used to being around people, their species being the minority in society. Although there hadn't been any trouble between the two species in quite some time.
"Are you okay?! Aaah, your poor books," crouching down, she wasted no time in picking up the fallen literature, smoothing out any crumpled pages and unable to resist peeking at the titles as she collected the pile on her lap. She couldn't help but smile as she recognised a few of them from the school library-- although others were complete mysteries to her.
"You must like reading a lot, huh? Ehe, I have a friend who's the same-- I always see him in the library!" Hiyoko spoke up from the ground, adding the last boom to her pile. Come to think of it, the only place she saw Nageki was the library... it was a little odd, but she'd gotten used to it. Maybe it was a little presumptuous of her to call the mourning dove her friend, but she certainly liked to think so.
Straightening up, books collected into a semi-neat pile under one arm, she gave them a last dust off with her free hand before turning to their owner to hand them over and-- paused quite suddenly. He was looking at her in, what she assumed to be, surprise and her expression probably mirrored his own. There was something undeniably familiar about him--
"Nageki?"
♔ anybirdie there?
Having had some not so pleasant encounters in this city so far, Sakuya was attempting to find his apartment now. He strutted through the streets, even in this time of despair he was his usual arrogant self. One couldn’t let their guard down ever. They couldn’t show weakness or insecurity, anything that made them vulnerable to any sort of attack or failure. That was how one became perfect or so he had been taught. Perfect for the Le Bel family, maybe, but Sakuya couldn’t help feel not worthy or simply not right in a way. His father had never embraced what filled with Sakuya with joy, or what actually made the pigeon himself. Right. He couldn’t be an individual. Forever and always he was meant to represent his family and a slip-up meant failure.
A deep breath. Wow, he was doing a lot of deep breathing today. Maybe he was practicing for some type of pigeon yoga? No, that was ridiculous. He was a cheerleader, silly! Actually, this whole experience was taking a big toll on Sakuya’s confidence. So many people today had said he was nobirdie. Nobirdie at all. The little voice in his mind argued that he was somebirdie indeed! He was Sakuya Le Bel Shirogane, wasn’t he? Or… he was meant to be. Such a big name, with even bigger expectations. All of it became a heavy weight that he carried with him as he tried to keep whatever remainder of his “right” self he had left. If he broke down or something, … imagine how disgraceful that would be! His father might disown him if he expressed his vulnerability in such a manner.
His deep thoughts were interrupted by a voice. Oh? And it sounded familiar. Sakuya turned around, ready to yell at the human for disturbing him when he was thinking and for calling out to him in such a casual and rude manner.
… It was her. Hiyoko Tousaka. That human girl from his class. Well. She must be comfortable here. Her kind was in power and plentiful, far different from the world they both knew as home. Lucky her. Sakuya continued with his regular actions and rolled his eyes at her.
Yes, he was jealous of her. Would he admit it? Never. The girl looked so happy as usual, when Sakuya himself was drowning in despair. How dare she be happy when he was upset! It was so rude of her and here she was treating him like one of them. Now he had even more reason to be jealous of Hiyoko. This situation wasn’t a bad one for her as it was for him. In fact, he thought she could be happier here than in a pigeon ruled society. Not that he wanted her to be. Her happiness did not matter at all to him for it did not matter to the Le Bel family.
Looking skeptical when she mentioned the word “cave,” he raised an eyebrow at her. She was poor, of course, but really? Had she not realized they had apartments here? The apartments had to be nice too if Sakuya was given one. Those scientists wouldn’t dare give a Le Bel a less than five star place to stay. Oh, yes, she was a human, he almost forgot. Hiyoko had been a familiar face that he had treated her like a pigeon. Clearly if she were human she’d live somewhere such as a cave and he couldn’t possibly expect a human to understand things like apartments. Especially a commoner human. .. wait, were there noble humans? No, that was unthinkable since humans didn’t even look as noble as pigeons.
“I do take your social rank into consideration, Hiyoko, but I believe the apartments do take in even peasants? I wish they didn’t, obviously, but it seems as though everybirdie is staying in one and I assume you shall do so as well.”
He flipped a small piece of his hair out of his face. It hadn’t even occurred to him that the hunter-gatherer might not recognize him in this form. If she didn’t at first, it would be obvious after a few seconds. She couldn’t be that dumb as to not recognize his aristocratic aura, correct? Or so he thought, at least.
“If you switch your quest to locating your apartment building, I’m afraid I still cannot assist you. I have no time to waste on you, peasant.”
When an all too familiar voice piped up behind her, Hiyoko was turning around and responding all at once, a small pout forming on her features. How could she fail to recognise Sakuya Le Bel Shirogane? Sounding just as she remembered him, as unfailingly arrogant as he'd appeared during his first 'introduction' to their class. Really, this situation was a fair bit more stressful than transferring, she would admit, but how did he expect to make friends here if he spoke to everybirdie like that? He was very lucky the hunter gatherer was used to that kind of talk--
"Sakuya--!"
And cue an abrupt pause because, although the noblebird's voice had certainly come from this person... well, he was a person. Undeniably the standoffish aristocrat, from his attire to his countenance... but unmistakably human. Did this happen to everybirdie who came into this city? They started looking like humans..? Did that mean the humans that she'd taken to be human were really birds or--?
Ow, all this was giving her a headache.
This rather confusing turn of events having caused a small hiccup in whatever the girl had planned to say, she soon caught herself once more and folded her arms across her chest. A proud hunter gatherer would not be deterred by something like this! Perhaps Sakuya himself would explain his sudden shift in appearance at some point, but in the meantime, she wouldn't be stopped from putting her thoughts out!
"But I don't have money for an apartment! Not everybirdie can afford that kind of thing," never mind that it hadn't occurred to her that the scientists would provide accommodation for their test subjects. Hiyoko was quite used to making her own way in life that the idea things would be provided for her was simply the farthest thing from her mind. She lived alone, caught her own food, made money by her own means-- it wasn't easy, but it was what she was used to. Being plucked from all that and placed here was undeniably troubling, but facing it with her best foot forward and a smile on her face was how she got things done. The possibility of meeting new faces and making friends was the silver lining to an otherwise dismal seeming situation.
... well, not the only silver lining. Even as she looked somewhat cross, the girl couldn't deny it was a relief to see a familiar bird in this place. While Sakuya often acted haughty and angry, she had the impression it was more for show than he let on. Who knew, she could be entirely wrong, but the girl was often one to trust her instincts more than her thoughts. Thus, temper deflating quickly, Hiyoko faced the fantail when he next spoke, blinking slightly.
"You're lost too, Sakuya?" It wasn't often that he'd admit to such a thing, so she didn't doubt it for a second. Then again, being entirely new to this setting, it was only natural, wasn't it? The girl looked around the dim streets for a moment... the apartment complexes, huh?
"I'll help you look!" Putting those hunter gatherer talents to good use and helping a friend in need-- to her rather simple manner of thinking, it only made perfect sense. Maybe if they found it, he'd let her stay for the night until she could find her own place to stay... if Sakuya was living there, it had to be some place big and fancy, didn't it? Should be easy to spot in a city like this!
Okay, mun is a moron and ended up sleeping for 14 hours instead of doing replies--
So bear with me while I try and get all my drafts done today, I'm sorry asdfgh--
