Happy International Mother Language day aka একুশে ফেব্রুয়ারি - Ekushey February 🇧🇩🇧🇩🇧🇩 (we’re one day ahead in Australia so my post is late I know) On feb 21, 1952, students in Dhaka were killed by the Pakistani police because they were protesting for the freedom to speak Bangla instead of Urdu. Today we pay our respects to the martyrs of the Language movement❤️ Quick Back story for those who don’t know - when the brits finished colonising us they partitioned the country up and split up the Muslims and Hindus. The Muslims were placed in East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) and West Pakistan. The thing was the dud that drew the boundaries never had even been to the region (Good one Cryril Radcliffe) and you could tell by the way he spilt the regions. Both sides had different cultures, customs, languages and were geographically so far from each other. When Pakistan tried to erase Bangla by declaring Urdu as the main Language the youth rose up and we ended up in a war for our independence. Bangladesh was born on Dec 16 1971. UNESCO declared 21 February (Ekushey February) as international Mother Language day in 1999 and then 2007 the UN extended the movement to help preserve and protect all languages. I love how much we both challenge each other creatively each time. This was my first shoot my outside my 5km zone & the first time Mish shot since lockdown.
