timeskip!bestfriend!kuroo decides to steal a lazy morning with you to tell you how he feels instead of using his words like a normal person. death to the situationship!
cw: some dumb chem/space references, HELLA FLUFFY <3 + HAPPY ENDING
kuroo tetsuro memorized what neutrinos were because of the way the sun touched your skin. trillions of them passed through you every moment, and with the sheer curtains open on this particular morning, he wished he was one of them.
kuroo liked to consider himself a man of logic; after all, he used the same approach for volleyball as he did when dealing with the japan volleyball association. he (whether subconsciously or not) analyzed what existed and made decisions that worked.
that's why he was captain. that's why he'd been scheduled for a promotion (though he'd been sworn to secrecy — he wasn't supposed to know that).
it was also why he couldn't, for the life of him, figure out what to do about you.
for the longest time, nothing about you fit his internal model. he could flirt, and you flirt back. he could feel like he was drowning and you'd drag him back to dry land. he could smile and decide to spend all his time with you and lose sight of you for months, only to, like magic, fall into your orbit yet again.
if all humans were carbon-based lifeforms, he reckoned the two of you came from the core of the same dying star.
"tetsu," you murmured, a hand reaching out to touch his chest. your eyes fluttered open, welcoming in the son and presumably the sight of him with an atrocious bedhead and a face that looked like he was gone for you.
he was. not that you'd noticed.
"good morning," he smirked, doing everything to ignore the feeling of you so close. this was always the issue. you'd come over. stay the night. talk about everything and anything til sunrise, only to fall asleep in his sheets.
then you'd wake like an angel, and he'd be left to deal with the damage.
how much more of this could he take?
"you're thinking," you frowned, pushing a finger of yours between his eyebrows. "you get a little crease right there. what's wrong?"
he paused for a moment, the blood rushing hot in his veins. the sheets had slipped ever so slightly, exposing the bare skin of your shoulders. he wondered, if just for a moment, what it might feel like to trace that with his lips.
"you trust me," he said, almost against his will, hands reaching to tug you in by your waist. you were made for him, or at least, that's what it felt like. your limbs melted into his like butter, his perfect puzzle piece. "right?"
his lips traced the shell of your ear, the gentle plush of them sending a shiver down your spine. you involuntarily clutched his shirt, feeling the flush on your face. "tetsu...what are you doing?"
"just answer the question," he said, hand sliding up the curve of your waist. he placed another chaste kiss to the shell over your ear before sliding his hand down to your thighs.
"where is this coming from?" you asked almost breathlessly, doing nothing to stop him. his hand, warm and calloused from years of sports, traced the plush of your thighs like it was something precious.
kuroo paused, his eyes boring into your own. he drew a dumb smiley face on your thigh before moving to rest his head on top of yours. the warmth of his body flooded through you instantly, and you gravitated towards him like a cat who’d found its favorite patch of sun.
“this is what i want,” he said simply, his free hand coming to cup your head against his chest. “this is exactly what i’d to be doing.
“we’re doing the thing,” you giggled. “you’re speaking nonsense.”
“do you intentionally make my life hard?” he mumbled into your head, placing what you think is a chaste kiss on top of it. you felt precious. loved. warm and fuzzy in a way you had no business being.
you’d wanted him for months now…maybe even years. if there was even the possibility he felt the same….
“i want these mornings with you all the time,” he sighed. “i want to wake you and be yours.”
your heart skipped a beat.
“so we can go out to dinner once i get my promotion….a date. a real date. in the romantic way.”
you smiled into his chest, looking up to see his flushed cheeks. “you mean that?”
he nodded, tracing a big fat heart into the sensitive skin of your thigh.
you shivered, fully prepared to kiss him before you began to giggle.
“what’s funny?” he huffed. “that was so romantic!”
“you’re getting a promotion? i thought if you knew about that, you weren’t supposed to say anything.”
roommate!kuroo tetsuro who comes out with a towel slung low on his hips when he knows that you’re going to be out in the living room waiting for your turn in the shower.
the water droplets trail a slow path down his chest, his normal spikey bedhead laying closer to his head. you’re half dumbfounded and half pissed and unfortunately a little turned on by his dumb smirk and the way he stands as if he’s some masterpiece you have to look at.
“your turn,” he says almost nonchalantly. “by the way i borrowed your shampoo. i was all out of mine.”
“be more responsible,” you choked out almost embarrassedly, catching the scent of his body wash as you almost ran past him. “you’re such a dumbass.”
he simply smiles after you, knowing full well your entire shower is going to be filled with thoughts of him.

the weird thing about achieving the things you wanted quite fast is that now i fear i might lose it all in the same pace. and i don't really know how i got here so how would i get here again?
is this internal fight of i deserved this and i fought for it, and i am good enough to keep it vs it was all luck and once that goes away I'm fucked.
it's hard to deal with, and to not take everything so seriously.
"that time of the month" "monthly visitor" "feminine hygiene products" GRRAH!!! SHUT UP SHUT UP!!! PERIOD!! MENSTRUATION!!!! TAMPONS!!! PADS!! MENOPAUSE!!!!!!!!!!!
i feel like people aren't getting how dire ai is. we are running out of drinkable water. our brains aren't engaging as much with what we see and hear. people near data centers don't get clean water and experience electricity blackouts. it's being used to make pornography of underaged people and women. it often just lies. it affirms everything. it lies. it has made people kill themselves. it lies for gods sake. and people act as if im dramatic for being staunchly against it. 'now i KNOOW you hate ai and whatever, but look at this cute video' this isn't me being a new age puritan about internet videos, this is about the fucking earth and our future living on this planet. people are suffering now, people will suffer more, and my friends and parents will roll their eyes and think im annoying for despising ai so explicitly. we need to wake up because we cannot live like this
I often beat myself up about this but when I look back I realize I’m so much better than I was in 2022/23, and I don’t give myself enough credit for that

you told yourself you wouldn't end up here.
your friends all knew you would.
'careful,' they'd teased. 'you're gonna end up in his bed.'
in your defense, you're not in his bed.
you're in his car.
"fuck-" he grunts, pressing a hand against your navel and rolling his hips. "couldn't even wait to go home, could you-"
you hold your hands above your head, not wanting to hurt yourself on the car door. "this was your fucking idea."
"and you listened?" he laughs. "that's a first."
you groan, annoyed. "your voice is getting on my nerves."
"please," he snorts. "you seemed okay earlier with my mouth pressed against your ear."
he's not wrong.
the grad student happy hours have always been a bit of a grey area for you. lab meetings and department receptions? the line is clear.
seeing him in the hallway or in the grad library? it's never more than a roll of your eyes and a roll of his, shoulders roughly brushed and irritated greetings.
happy hours are dangerous.
the bar light is always low, which you're convinced is the only reason he looks good. alcohol is flowing, which you're convinced, again, is the only reason he smells so damn good. and words come easier.
which is how you always manage to end up in some corner, blocked from view by the towering frame of kuroo tetsurou, as you argue about things that never really matter.
last month, it was about which companies you're both applying to.
the month before that, it was about who has more publications and invited talks.
today — tonight, with his sleeves rolled up to his elbows and his fingers cold with drink condensation when he cuts your thought off with a gentle nudge against your forearm — you're arguing about nothing.
literally nothing.
except for the fact that you'd both been accepted to and accepted the offer from the same company. the same company, in the same department.
it's already done. contracts have already been signed.
so the argument is about nothing.
but, still, when you start to get heated and declare that you just need to stay away from each other, he's quick to cut you short. cold, slightly wet fingers and his personal space mixed with yours. his mouth pressed to the shell of your ear, like he always manages to do, even though the music in the bar is never really that loud.
he cuts you short, cuts that idea off — staying away from each other — before you can fully form it.
almost like he doesn't like it.
'how about — instead of being unreasonable — we learn to co-exist?'
'yeah?' you'd bitten. 'and how do you suppose we do that?'
his answer had involved dragging you to his car. you think. you don't remember.
everything after the surge of his lips against yours, in the shadows of that dimly lit bar, had been foggy.
and now you're here, right where your friends always said you'd end up.
the drag of his cock along your walls is marked by the wet plap of his thrust. he laughs when it starts to happen every time, but you can hear how breathy it is. how shaky he sounds when he mocks you.
"so fucking wet-ngh-" his fingers grip your waist tight and start to drag you down on him. "you like me that much?"
you want to deny that. but even years of fighting has left you unable to face this moment with your head screwed on straight.
so you just bite down on your lip and let your back arch when he starts to throb inside of you. "you gonna come already, kuroo?" it's embarrassing how weak your voice is. "can't last long, can you?"
you think you hear him whisper something that sounds suspiciously like "not with you", but it's cut short by the ringing in your ears and the creak of the car as he picks up his pace. the tip of his cock smacks against your g-spot, twitching every time you whine.
"where d'you wan' it?" he grunts. the metal of his belt smacks against the seat as his hips start to stutter. "c'n i get this pretty little dress dirty?"
you whimper, not sure why his question catches you off guard. "tetsu," you whisper, eyes falling shut as you imagine him calling you pretty like that.
his breath stalls on the inhale. "fuck," he breathes.
the edge is gone from his voice. almost like it was never really there.
"what'do you need?"
your chest heaves with each gulp of air your struggle for. "tetsu-"
