I worked with a lady that came into work one day with no hair. No one mentioned it, no one talked about it. She was wearing a bandana so we all knew she was bald.

But I have ADD, and not so great control of my impulsiveness. Finally, near the end of the night I asked. “So… can I ask, what happened to your hairs?”

She smiled and hugged me. I was the only person with the cajones to ask. “My best friend is pregnant, already has a 4 yr old, and was diagnosed with cancer, and her boyfriend left her because it was too much. So I’ve been helping her out, being supportive. And I promised her if she started losing her hair I would shave my head too.”

“Last night she called me, crying because her hair was falling out in clumps. I told her I’d be there in 10 minutes. She shaved me first, then I her.”

It’s the most supportive thing she could think to do.

There is so much beauty in simplicity. And that’s exactly what this kiss was – simple, yet so incredibly profound, electric, magical, and amazing. This was the kiss that two friends shared. Two best friends, who know each other like the back of their hands. Two friends who’ve gracefully overcome every hurdle life threw their way. Two friends that were brought together by fate, and who confide in one another about anything and everything, and two friends that love each other unconditionally without doubt.

This was Stefan Salvatore kissing Caroline Forbes. This is Stefan Salvatore, who has been through hell – he lost the girl he loved the most in the world, and always felt like he couldn’t move on – but he finally did. This moment proved it. He wouldn’t have initiated anything if he didn’t truly want it; if he didn’t truly feel anything for Caroline. He has always loved her, deep down – they’ve been friends for almost twice as long as Elena and Stefan dated – and have gotten to know each other better than Elena and Stefan ever will. Stefan can be himself around Caroline – all his walls, all his insecurities come crashing down when she’s around. She sees right through him, and knows him deep down to his soul. He moved so slowly towards her, and you could literally hear his heart beating a mile a minute as he finally reached Caroline – he flickered his eyes shut, praying and hoping that this was what she wanted too – and kissed her. This is a man who has finally realized what he’s always wanted has been right there in front of him all along. This is a man who has grown up – who has seen everything, and finally realized life does give us second chances. This is a man taking that chance, unafraid to love again.

This was Caroline Forbes kissing Stefan Salvatore back. This is Caroline Forbes – the insecure, neurotic control freak that we all know and love. This is Caroline Forbes, one of the realest characters on a show about vampires. She is beautiful, kind, humble, caring, giving, and she would do anything for the people she loves. And Stefan knows that. It’s the kind of thing he’s always been drawn and attracted to. Stefan sees the real Caroline. He knows how little she thinks of herself; and he constantly tries to prove to her that she’s extraordinary in every way. Caroline doesn’t have to pretend with him. He can see right through her.

These are two best friends finally realizing that love comes in all different shapes and forms. Sometimes it’s thrown at us when we least expect it. Sometimes, without even realizing it, we fall in love with the one person who’s been by our side all along. Sometimes, that one person is The One.
