Research queston
Selection of Data Set
During selection of relevant data sets I found most interesting AddHealth code book that represent information about different aspects of life teenagers in 7-12 grade.
Topic of interest
Physical violence is a one of the disturbing topics in our society. I believe that there are several aspects that may effect on physical violence in teenage environment:
- Relationship with parents that actually part of home education
- Origin of person where culture may effect on violence level
I would like to focus on Personality and Family and Fighting and Violence information from provided data sets to check following topics:
- What is correlation between communications with parents and level of physical violence?
- How the origin of child effect physical violence indicators?
Selection of parts of codebook
To answer these question I am taking data from 2 section
- Section 1: General Introductory
- Section 18: Personality and Family
- Section 16: Relations with Parents
- Section 31: Fighting and Violence
I am not sure I am going to use all of these in my final analysis but part information will be in use.
Literature review
Unfortunately I could not find research that was done to check exactly the same correlations and dependencies I would like to check in my analysis. Most of of studies checking between Parent – Child violence and how it's related to child behavior.
But still there is some articles that may give good example that dependency between parenting or family origin and teenage violence actually exists.
- Parenting at home and bullying at school by Stelios N. Georgiou & Panayiotis Stavrinides
https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007%2Fs11218-012-9209-z
- Environmental causes of violence by David O.Carpentera and Rick Nevinab
https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S003193840900300X
- Correlation Between Different Experiences of Intrafamilial Physical Violence and Violent Adolescent Behavior by Melinda Yexley, Iris Borowsky, Marjorie Ireland
https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1177/0886260502017007001
Hypothesis
As part of current analysis I would like to prove based in provided materials following topics:
- If love of the parents is stronger , the children have less violent behavior
- If relationship in family is based on trust and understanding the child have less violent behavior
- Children that belong to specific races have more violent behavior then another
Research question
During selection of relevant data sets I found most interesting AddHealth code boom that represent information about different aspects of life teenagers in 7-12 grade.
I would like to focused on Personality and Family information and study following questions:
- What is correlation between communication with parents and life satisfaction , personality and patterns of decision-making
- How the origin of child affect of relationship with a parents as part of parents culture.
To answer these question I am taking data from 2 section
- Section 1: General Introductory
- Section 18: Personality and Family
I may also use if necessary some information from Section 16: Relations with Parents
