okay well this was fun bye forever again!

I get really confused when americans, when talking about universal health care are like ‘yeh but it’s not free sweaty :) :) you have to pay it through taxes :) so gotcha!!’

and I’m like ….???? That’s the whole point??? Everyone pays their fair share so that no one has to be turned away because they don’t have insurance??? And no one has to set up a Fundraiser page just so that they DONT DIE???? So people don’t put off going to the doctor because they’re scared of going bankrupt?? Because healthcare is a RIGHT and should be free at the point of access?!?

The problem in America is that we’re instilled with the importance of individual success since birth. The values that a human would need to rationalize why their money should go to help someone who “doesn’t work as hard” or “is living off of welfare” or “is a good for nothing lazy person taking advantage of the rich people who work hard for their money” (which is the only argument you get when you confront this issue with anyone who makes sustainable wages) don’t exist in the thought process necessary to keep the economy in a capitalist society as big as America alive. It preys on the fact that rich people don’t wanna share and it encourages them not to; it’s the biggest problem with overcoming 99% of the problems like racism and classism and sexism. The system is set up so the lowest die off. It’s fucking scary, but you’re convinced that if you become part of that you’ll end up being the one in need. The concern isn’t for the community..its for themselves. If they have to pay more taxes so someone less privileged can benefit, it simply doesn’t suit their agenda for being the most successful human being possible (which is only equivalent to having more and more things and status) alllllll bulllshittt. a premise created to perpetuate differences and instill a sense of priority and superiority to again, MONEY over human life. So I understand your frustration, and as an American, I am too often saddened by the fact that I live in a country where the majority prefer things and social comfort to justice and social reform.

Charities/organisations to avoid:

PETA: They’d rather spend their money on publicity campaigns than on the animals in their care. PETA killed 73.8% of the animals in their care in 2015 (x)

FCKH8: Is a for-profit company that exploits oppressed groups for money. They’re also wildly uninformed, and spread misogyny, cissexism and bi/panphobia, as well as stealing their posts/designs (x)

Autism Speaks: They spend most of their money on researching a way to eliminate autism, heighten the stigma against autism and don’t have a single autistic person on their board (x)

Please support other, better charities, and feel free to add any others you can think of to this.
