Sharp shadows and soft hearts. In a world defined by curses, these quiet moments are the only true sorcery. Just for a second, the weight of the world feels light enough to carry. 🌙🖤

The Midnight Club - Season Two
I'm very disappointed that Netflix has decided not to pursue a second season of THE MIDNIGHT CLUB.
My biggest disappointment is that we left so many story threads open, holding them back for the hypothetical second season, which is always a gamble.
So I'm writing this blog as our official second season, so you can know what might have been, learn the fates of your favorite characters, and know the answers to those dangling story threads from the first season.
So for those of you who want to know what we were planning to do, here's a look at what would have been season 2!
will saying “I don’t like girls” and then the scene cutting to show mike gulping is diabolical btw. I just know this boy had the rain fight flashing before his eyes.
I think the funniest part of the coming out scene is when Will says he doesn't like girls and Mike has a full body reaction and Lucas is about to look into the camera like he's on the office.
Like that is the face of man whose been knowing this shit for a while. He was NOT at all surprised.
I am increasingly convinced that not only will we receive Mike’s point of view in Volume 2, but that he will also become a deliberate target of Vecna. Through the vision Vecna granted Nancy, nearly everything has already unfolded: Hawkins lies in ruins, monsters roam freely, black smoke coils through the sky, Karen and Holly were attacked, and even Ted—absent from the original vision—was assaulted. And who else was explicitly referenced? Mike. Yet he remains the only figure on that list who has not faced any direct consequence so far.
I said long before Season 5 premiered that I would not be surprised if Vecna targeted Mike this season. Not necessarily in the same manner as the victims of Season 4, but targeted nonetheless. Mike stands at the emotional crossroads of both El and Will; harming him destabilizes them both in ways Vecna could exploit. El is the primary barrier to his plans, and Will is his instrument—an unwilling but essential component of Vecna’s final design. Vecna himself has stated his intention: “You’re going to help me one last time.” And Mike has always been an obstacle to Vecna’s first victim and first vessel: Will Byers.
Across Season 2, it was Mike who consistently anchored Will, pulling him out of trances, urging him to use his visions to spy on the Mind Flayer, and delivering the monologue that finally reached him even during full possession. In both Season 2 and in Season 5 episode 4, it was the love of Will’s family—and Mike’s love for Will—that led him toward catharsis and self-acceptance, reconciling his identity and his sexuality. Will’s memories of innocence, joy, and safety—many of which revolve around Mike—are the very foundation of who he is.
By targeting Mike and granting us Mike’s internal perspective, the show would effectively “out” him metaphorically to the audience—particularly viewers who have not paid attention and still assume he is heterosexual and romantically aligned with El. Consider the symbolism: out of the entire Wheeler house, the demogorgon was shown throwing Ted through Mike’s closet. It is blatant foreshadowing. Especially when remembering Ted Wheeler, staunch Reagan voter, telling Mike in Season 1 after Will’s disappearance: “You see, Michael? You see what happens when—”—a line that subtextually reads, “This is what happens when you are gay, or appear gay. You get taken. Or worse.”
I am deeply convinced that Vecna will torment Mike by weaponizing memories—recontextualizing earlier scenes, revealing Mike’s unseen perspective, and resurfacing moments we once interpreted without fully understanding his emotional reality. There are countless possibilities: the rain-soaked fight in Season 3, the confrontation at Rink-O-Mania (with behind-the-scenes evidence suggesting additional unseen footage), the airport scene, the flirtatious interactions in Season 4, the van monologue, the Snowball, and even scenes from the eighteen months Will lived with Mike—moments we never witnessed.
Once these memories accumulate, the audience will no longer be able to deny Mike’s feelings. What once appeared as isolated snowflakes will cascade into an avalanche.
And now comes the darker layer: Vecna is far from finished with Will.
I am increasingly convinced that Vecna wanted Will to unlock his powers—that he needed Will’s awakening for the decisive stage of his plan. The cruel twist is that in gaining these abilities, Will has also intensified his connection to both the Mind Flayer and Vecna in both directions. If Will can now infiltrate or spy on them, then they can just as easily infiltrate him—mining his trauma, amplifying his fears, and possibly even attempting to possess him again.
From what I understand of The First Shadow, when Henry first unlocked his powers and committed his first act of murder, that moment allowed the Mind Flayer to seep into him—to drown him in darkness until it completely controlled him. And Will unlocked his own abilities by killing three demogorgons simultaneously. Does this imply that Will, too, could become susceptible to the Mind Flayer’s influence? I cannot say with certainty. But I can say that Vecna still needs him—intends to torment him, seize him, and exploit him, perhaps even using Will’s very essence and powers to fuel his final plan. Will, as Vecna’s first victim and first vessel, stands at the center of the hive Vecna is preparing with those twelve children. He is the catalyst to the entire endgame.
And nothing would psychologically cripple Will more than targeting Mike.
I can easily envision Vecna manipulating the love Will and Mike share—turning their bond into a psychological weapon designed to unravel them. Mike, who has spent years repressing his emotions, will likely break open in Volume 2, forced to confront everything he has buried under layers of denial, trauma, and fear. Finn Wolfhard reportedly prepared extensively for this emotional arc; the long monologue we know is coming, the “angst” confrontation between Mike and Will, and the fact that Noah spent most of his shooting days alongside Finn all point toward the same conclusion: the core of Volume 2 will revolve around Mike and Will.
Mike’s emotional collapse will almost certainly be triggered by Vecna’s psychological torture—and that torture will almost certainly center on what Will means to him.
Their love, long subtextual, will finally become text—weaponized at first by Vecna, then reclaimed by the boys themselves.
The fact that the last image of volume 1 is Will from Mike's point of view is, for me, a sign that we are moving from Will's point of view in volume 1 to Mike's point of view in volume 2.
