When people get up-in-arms against transfem readings of Ralsei they do always reveal that they haven't bothered to actually engage with the analysis at all but they also reveal their own transmisogynistic beliefs that no one has called them out on (or they just haven't cared)

Like these are all just from one short video's comments

Exhibit A: The ✨Aesthetic✨ of what the optics on the group are is paramount. It is more important of an idea that a neat package of identity be created than any kind of transformation to it. Ofc you can argue there the age old "it's fiction so it's not that serious that they wanna see this". Indeed. I am analysing how it betrays real life ideas we carry, as all opinions beliefs and fictional depictions do. Get with the programme. A particular reading of the text is being dismissed on the basis of giving preference to what gender can do performatively, something that "has a good look", something you "like the idea of"

Exhibit B: Denying that these readings are being denied and then denying the reading yourself without a hint of self-awareness. Ofc anyone who has expressed being treated with double-standards due to their marginalisation will know this as a familiar experience: being told that That Didn't Happen. But what is more to the point here is the justification given. This is such a common transmisogynistic tactic: the idea that being GNC but remaining cis is somehow more transformative than transitioning despite the pressures in society to not transition. You're lying if you say you haven't fucking heard the "just be feminine/masculine girls are masculine and boys are feminine all the time it doesn't mean you're ACTUALLY a boy/girl you shouldn't do something so DRASTIC over it" spiel. So it goes that transfem readings are accused of "erasing" and "undermining" the true disruptive reading: that of being gnc and ultimately the gender performance "not really meaning anything" - safe and unchallenging to the cisness.

Exhibit C: The Reverse Racism special! Every marginalised group has the reverse racism special! The idea that because misgendering is bad when done to trans/non-binary people, it is just an evil devoid of context and suggesting, or allowing yourself to think for a moment that a person may not be cis is tantamount to the same violence. This ofc ignores the politics of misgendering - the power dynamic at play when someone is denied their gender position because of cissexualism. But further it rhetorically paints cis as the default that should never be disturbed. 1) Talking about trans headcanons or even suggestions of someone irl being trans as "misgendering" is the same as taking offence if a gay person asks a straight person if they might be gay. 2) Suddenly "it's just a game those characters aren't real lol" stops mattering to people when they get uncomfortable with anyone - even a fictional character - being given the possibility of being transfem as a neutral-to-positive thing.

Exhibit D: Straight up using a transmisogynistic slur and calling it funny. Mask off vile shit that people are way too comfortable jokingly throwing around.

Oh and if you happen upon here and are thinking "well I just haven't seen any good arguments for transfem Ralsei other than being feminine" you can easily find them by going to transfem Ralsei tags and engaging in the analysis and then you'll know! Hurray! Knowledge✨ And even if you aren't convinced by the reading (and at 4/7 chapters I don't so much care about it tbf) the point of this post is transmisogynistic attitudes that remain unchallenged in our communities. Remember the point of the post! Do not digress from the point of this post!!

i've been thinking about something i've been seeing online that feels strange to me, and i wanna talk about it.

when somebody headcanons a character that is presented as male in canon as transmasc, nobody questions their reasoning or even asks about it out of genuine curiosity. but if somebody headcanons that same character as transfem, there's a lot more resistance, interrogation, and assumptions. the main examples of this that i am aware of are jax from the amazing digital circus and ralsei from deltarune, but there are likely more, and maybe some instances with canon female characters.

a lot of the time, when i see characters being headcanoned as trans in the direction of their canon gender, the individuals with these headcanons don't really do anything with it. they don't analyze or examine how being trans affects the character, and they don't explore the character's journey of self acceptance or their transition, since, well, according to their headcanon, they already went through all that stuff and now they're perfectly happy. more often than not, it's just drawings of the characters with "trans traits" like having top surgery scars or wearing a binder, and a missed opportunity to think about the effect that being trans would've had on the character in their life. i'm not saying everyone with those headcanons does this, but from what i've seen it's fairly common.

now, on the other end, individuals who follow headcanons or theories that a canon male character is transfem or a canon female character is transmasc are put under more scrutiny. many people are very blatantly being ignorant towards the reasons for these theories, not listening to actual explanations of others' reasoning in favor of calling the headcanons/theories transphobic. my experience with this is seen in transfem jax theory and transfem ralsei theory. i've seen many a post in which someone is making claims such as "you only think this character is transfem because they're feminine". but if you're in the spaces that discuss these theories and headcanons, you know that the femininity of a male character is not being cited as primary evidence for their possible transfemininity. at least in the examples i'm talking about here, the people who believe this are basing it off of the relationship these characters have with their identity, self worth, and desires, noticing the aspects they have in common with the actual feelings and experiences had by trans people who hadn't realized themselves yet. but so many people refuse to actually listen to these explanations, or just dismiss them as not making sense.

The game treats the Miis like they’re real people and makes zero mention ever that they are not, and only ever refers to them and their POV as if they are real and you are their caretaker! While playing this honestly messed with my head pretty badly at times and made me worry a lot on if I was hurting real people/not doing enough for real people while I was playing!

I cannot imagine how much worse this would be for someone who’s unmedicated, non-dormant, or experiencing breakthrough symptoms! Do please be careful and PLEASE remember to have a way to reality check yourself while playing the game!!!

Also: If you’re not psychotic, please reblog this anyway!!! It may not seem like a big deal to you but these kinds of things are REALLY important to know for us psychotic folk in a world that is both hostile and negligent to us and our needs!!!

tbf i havent like. researched vylet pony characters super extensively so i dont have the best image of creekflow as a character, was mostly thinking of it being a Violent Pursuer for like. i wanna say half the album at least, and comparing that to like. coldhearted route noelle. still an extremely different scenario there though, i just wasnt putting much thought into it at the time
