It’s 10 after 12 I’m wide awake, 
for heaven’s sake I have to be up by 5, 
but I’m not doing so good in a pillow fight against my depression. 
See tonight I brought a pocket knife in a gun fight against my insomnia. 
My mind is in a war of its own,
My heart feels like a burnt down church building that everyone passes and says 
‘I always felt a little closer to God when I was in that temple’

I’m addicted to a lot of bad things 
Which includes stalking an ex on Facebook that I haven’t seen in 3 years. 
I’ve lost count of the number of poems 
I wrote saying my goodbyes to her. 
It’s 10 after 12 I’m missing some girl I’ve never met, the one I’ve been seeing tells me to embrace the fact that we ending, when I’m not even sure we ever started. 
See the girl that I’m in love with knows exactly how I feel about her cause she feels the same way about someone else.

See when I turned 17 
I thought I was done being bullied 
but my depression is worse than the custodian that made me kiss his girlfriend’s shoe in front of my first high school crush.

My mother says I am the coldest room in the house,
We stopped talking when I turned 16. 
But in the imaginary conversations I have with her I apologize for being forever this cold and I tell her I wasn’t always like this and that 
I know what it’s like going to bed 
being part of something amazing 
and waking up the next day and not being part of it anymore.

Half of the people I meet are never actually here to stay, 
and I have a bad habit of making homes out of them. 
I haven’t felt home in a while, I’ve been ‘Homesick’ and 
I’m sick of all the permanent visitors in my life.
I still wonder how I became a stranger to my best friend, a foreigner in my own land?

Lately my heart feels like that motel 
that’s in the middle of nowhere 
that everybody comes and sleeps in when they’re desperate and you can tell by how they leave the bed messy that they’re not coming back. My heart has been that messy bedroom for the past 6 years. I’ve gotten so used to being left behind, I wear abandonment better than my own skin…

I constantly have to remind myself that I need to keep on breathing.

I get that no one is afraid of losing me and I don’t know how many times I’ve said it in my response to ‘How are you?’ That I’m dying.

Men shouldn’t have an excuse to respect women. It makes my blood boil every time I hear “you owe her respect because she could be your sister, or mother”. It’s a no from me. You need to freaking respect because she is a human being just like you. Period. Please stop coming up with excuses when it comes to how men should behave in this society.

Afraid of language. Afraid of mucking up. Afraid of people. Afraid of words. Words like, “racism” or “black” or “brown” or “queer” or “genocide.” These are words. People are being murdered and cannot afford fear of words. 2. Familiarize yourself with this site and keep it bookmarked. When obstinate folks call for “facts,” The Guardian has you covered. (And if you yourself aren’t aghast by these *facts*, we need to have a chat. Truly.) 3. Privilege. We have it. Start here and then let’s have a talk.  4. Do the work. On your own. You have a big brain, use it. Here’s a lovingly curated starter list. (Note, “ally” can be a trick term. Don’t self-proclaim.
