Superconductors
(work in progress) As explorers we assimilate thoughts, ideas, activities in our childhood. To create understanding we explore how it is like to think as others, to act as others. Violence around us makes us explore violence as part of our self-understanding-self. As part of exploring thoughts, ideas, emotions coming from within. If these internal explorations meet rejection - laughter, mockery, anger - we incapsulate its expressions. In confusion, fear of being excluded we can become superconductors. Mediums - where violent thoughts, ideas, action directed to other bodies - pass through our bodies.

When we go searching for a new language – what elements do we add, what gestures, do we bring words or silence, do we look in someone’s eyes or does a gaze demand for an unwanted act in a not yet created dialogue, what can form, color and movement add to sharing and understanding, how do we make ourselves equally vulnerable in a harsh urban environment to make that dialogue appear? By internalizing the common around us we become performers of an unreflected life. Where do we find elements of a life of the hidden? Can we create a dialogue for the equal?
...we continue our lives...a Friday afternoon after buying a new dress we gather with some friends in the sun having a glass of wine sharing that we found that dress we saw in the magazine in the right size in the clothing store, most certainly not thinking about the 10 cubic meter of water that was used to produce that pair of jeans or the 8000 chemicals used effecting the worker that made them for us with a wage of 75€ a month...why should we...we pass the public installations on the way, sitting for some minutes on the fountain step checking our phone while waiting for one of our friends, not even noticing the water flushing behind us with fresh water since it has been there every day you passed probably since you were born...after the drink we go home and have a pee in the toilet, we flush after as we always do, maybe 5 or 6 times a day or even more, not noticing the sound behind us when we close the lid with fresh water inside...just because it would be too expensive to exchange the system and replace the fresh water with used...we continue our lives as we always did, because what we see is that life we were used to and the 24% of the global population that is in need of using a fresh water resource that is contaminated for drinking and growing and making food is not living here...we might not even know in how many ways people can be effected when searching for water because of consumption somewhere else, because of conflict and war, because of belonging to a minority...because that is not the life we see when we walk the city street a Friday afternoon longing for some rest in the sun with our new dress and our old friends...that is not what we see...

In a time capsule we sent to outer space our new thoughts, our new visions of the future knowledge sharing. We wanted to share our thoughts, born out of our experiences of knowledge exchange of this time lapse. What didn’t help us build a sharing environment, what did turn us into copies of a firm structure, we wanted to transform into the future knowledge sharing. It’s our gift to the future generations. Our thoughts, our visions will now circulate in space until that time the future generations are ready to pick them up.

CONCEPT NOTE
As global capitalism and it’s politics are the main forces of todays global inequality, and an important reason why water scarcity affects over 40% of the global population, this performance deal with these politics of the west and it’s social behaviour of consumption. The performance is an interactive ‘talk’ with the audience about our daily behaviour and subsequent ignorance of its consequences. Issues like outsourced clothing production to underdeveloped countries and its consequences are covered as well as our behaviours towards trends affecting consumption.
The performance takes place in and around a fountain at one of the main squares of Malmö city in Sweden. The fountain was once built on the top of that times fresh water reservoir. In the west we flush our toilets with fresh water, on the grounds rebuilding the sewage systems would be to expensive, as well as use fresh water for public installations.
Fresh water access is central in this performance. Its life essence and how part of the world over consume and misuse it on behalf of the 40% of the global population that are affected by water scarcity. During the performance the audience will experience how the capitalistic system are both empowering us and makes us internalise these politics and reproduce them. Production industry both uses fresh water recourses for production and discharge the wastewater back into the fresh water sources making 24% of the global population in need of useing a fresh water resource that is contaminated. By internalising the capitalistic policies we become performers of a life that we probably don’t ask ourselves if we want. The vast majority of us most certainly know about the facts presented, even if not in detail, but how often do we talk about it or try to do something ourselves.
This performance consists of two concept ideas. First creating an environment in a western water consuming area, the fountain, which is similar to many water sources for fresh water in underdeveloped countries. By using the fountain for bathing, peeing, washing and colouring clothes, in a most natural way like being at home, the water becomes contaminated. In the end the water in the fountain will stop flushing and all there’s left is the contaminated water. The audience will be served this water in wine glasses. Second showing how we internalise this capitalist system that causes these global water problems by behaviours of consumption. The performance character will dress up and use wine glasses, colour her lips red, blur a mirror with fat cream and drink water constantly referring to over consumption of health trends. On the site you will see a pile of clothes and as audience you will understand you can touch and take a piece to feel it during the performance. Some detailed statistics of water scarcity today will be shared with the audience, which in the end also will be invited to participate with thoughts by writing on a board with a red pen.
Step 2 is to record this performance and display it on a screen together with a board and pen at fountains close, and if possible at public toilets, during water conferences around.
