“So what if I went on a bit of a walkabout?” Bas asked, putting his feet up on the desk in front of him as he settled in to do absolutely nothing for the rest of his assigned detention. “I can not do my homework inside the castle or I can not do my homework outside of it-- when it comes down to it, there’s really not much of a difference.”

“Do you really think that anyone would let me care for a real living, breathing creature? I can’t even find a matching pair of socks, let alone take care of a kitten.” Reggie was sprawled out across the grass, an arm behind his hand and occasionally reaching out to scratch at the little fuzzball that had wandered over. “If you wanna knit me a sweater, though, after you’re done with the one for your cat, I’ll wear it with pride.”

“I can rarely find a matching pair of socks, but that’s usually because Elara’s stolen them.” Reg shrugged, sitting down in the grass somewhat reluctantly. He wasn’t usually much of an outdoors person, but he had classes to skip and there were only so many places to hide in the castle. “You could knit your own sweater, you know. I mean, I could knit a better one, but knitting’s hardly a dark art.”

“I don’t know.” Asami heard a rumor that the library had been set on fire, but that’s all she’d heard. “I only know the rumor. Could be false.” The Gryffindor tilted her head to the side at Regulus’s unusual response. “I take offense to that. All my stuff is in Gryffindor. Compromise: the astronomy tower?”

“I don’t see how that’s my problem.” Reg continued his notetaking, flipping the page of the book in front of him. “It was probably one of you lot who set the library on fire, so fair turnabout and all. You burned our stuff, we burn yours.”

“Yes, she’s mine.” Morgana followed her cat who had run up to Regulus to demand pets. She bent down to give her kitten a small pat on the head before looking up at the Slytherin. “Regulus, I’m in knitting club with you. I wasn’t at the last meeting because Professor Sprout needed my help with something.”

Regulus looked at the person in front of him, trying to think of whether or not he knew her. Or, she seemed to think he did, but he couldn’t place her face one way or another. They weren’t related, he was pretty sure, and there really were too many people in the castle to expect him to keep track. “Right. Um. Who are you? And why are you bringing dirt near yarn?”

“Yes. Yes, it is.” The defeat in Tristan’s voice was painfully obvious, sighing as he watched his cat ravel in the attention provided. As he watched on, he felt his last shreds of hope that Casper would ever be the vicious predator Tristan knew he could be if only he tried shrivel up and die. “I’d literally rather stab myself than do that. I’m not that much of a knitter. And, uh, it would just feed his ego even more.”

“He’s gorgeous,” Reg cooed, sitting down fully so that he could try to coax the cat into his lap. There were so many cats in the castle, but it was rare he came across one as friendly as this one. “Y’know, knitting’s got needles involved. You could probably stab someone at the club, if you really felt like combining your options.”

“Why do people keep assuming I have a cat? Do I look like someone who would have a cat?” Severus scowled. Regulus was the second person to accuse him of being a cat owner. Well, perhaps ‘accuse’ was too harsh, but honestly, who would think he’d take responsibility for an animal like that? “You are aware that cats are born with their own sweaters, correct? They don’t need you to knit one for them.”

“Merlin, what is your problem?” Reg rolled his eyes, wondering why he’d even bothered to ask. He picked up the baby, running his hands through her soft fur. “Half the castle owns a cat-- it’s not like I accused you of devil worship or something.”

“Uh…. yes. Actually it is….” Alice murmured with a little smile. Her little kitty had been a present from Frank actually. The tabby kitty lived with Alice during school time, but Frank had him during the holidays. A cat didn’t really mix well living in a ice cream shop. “Uh…. that is actually kinda cute” She mused with a little smile. “I can’t knit though…. so I’ll pass on coming along”

“Oh, he’s a sweetheart. Or she? What’s the name?” Reg offered the little kitty a treat from his pocket-- Elara would probably hiss at him for that next time she saw him, but she was about as ferocious as a pom-pom ball. “You could learn, y’know? It’s really not that complicated.”

Gracie had practically been in a mood since Halloween. She was still confused about her feelings for Laisren, and about the whole people getting attacked. It had played on her mind a lot. She had actually enjoyed watching the chaos happen, and even now she didn’t really regret that. She just didn’t really know what she felt, especially in relation to Laisren. She had enjoyed kissing, but didn’t really know how things could go further. If she was honest with herself, Gracie knew what she needed to do, she just didn’t really want to do it.
She hadn’t seen Rabastan in a while, and she actually kind of wondered if he was trying to avoid her. She wouldn’t blame him really. Their last conversation had been bad, and she did kind of regret it, even if she would never admit it. They’d had a pretty decent friendship. Although, she was also pretty sure that it was him that had told Rita Skeeter about her kiss with Laisren.
She was wondering down the potions corridor, when she practically bumped into him. “Surprised to see you down here….” She mused, a smirk on her lips. “Thought you paid of little firsties to do all your potions for you”

Bas did his best to reflect nothing on his face-- he’d not been in the best of moods lately and although it was so very tempting to further his rampage, actually hurting Gracie would be too far. Maybe he’d track down that mudblood later and arrange a quidditch accident instead.
“I do,” he replied coldly, shaking the bag he was holding so that it made the very satisfying clink of something stuffed full of potions vials. “I could say the same about you though-- don’t you have business up in Ravenclaw Tower? Or has locking lips with a slug gotten old?”
“Don’t sit there,” Bas said absently, mind miles away as he worked on painting a delightful message onto the wall of the previously-empty classroom. It was really coming along-- he’d traded for a tub of glitter from another student in exchange for some shimmering pink ink he’d had, and a permanent sticking charm seemed to be taking it well. “That bench has bad vibes. I’d stay at least two rows away, if I were you.”

“Is there a word for ex-soon-to-be-sister-in-law?” Reg asked, kicking up his feet on the coffee table and nearly spilling the glass of wine in his hand. “Or twice over actually-- if you’d married Rabastan, and Bella married Rodolphus, then we’d be.. I don’t know. Is there a word for that either? Are you planning on getting engaged to any of my other relatives?” He stopped for a minute, squinting at the other student. “Are we already related? I don’t even know.”

“Is this your kitty?” Reg asked, not even looking up at the human above in favor of petting the little creature. “You should come to knitting club-- I’ve been working on a sweater for my cat, before it gets too cold out. It’s been fun.”
“What do you mean someone set the library on fire?” Regulus put his head in his hands, not sure if he should laugh or cry. He chose laughing, even if it made him seem rather hysterical. “The goddamn library. Of course. Where all the books are-- they do know we need that, right? Can’t they have set Gryffindor Tower on fire or something else stupid?”
“Are you going to be going home for the holidays?” Avalon asked hesitantly, not quite sure how to broach the subject. Or any subjects when it came to her family, extended or otherwise. “It would be nice to do something together, if you want.”

It was extremely impolite, Daisy knew that. Everyone was just trying to get to class or to the library or to their common room, the halls were crowded as people stopped to chat with their friends, and the poor kid just lost control of their feet. The little snort that came out of her was completely by accident, but completely rude and she was pretty sure that the poor kid (third year? probably) heard it happen because the nasty look shot her way had her biting down hard on her lower lip to try and cover it up. “God, I’m so rude. That was completely rude, wasn’t it?”

“Well, it wasn’t the most polite.” Avalon frowned slightly, looking at the fallen younger student with concern. She didn’t want to make a fuss and there were lots of people closer, but that looked like it hurt. “Sometimes things just happen though, I guess? You could always apologise.”

“I have no idea” Gracie mused with a shrug. She’d never danced, well not ballet anyway, and so honestly had no idea. She’d also never had to actually consider money as a reason for not getting anything either. She’d just asked daddy and daddy had gotten her the thing she wanted. “Right….” She didn’t really know what to say, because she didn’t have an opinion. “I mean there has got to be some cost to repeatedly buying the same thing over and over” Of course, it would never be a problem for people like them, but it must be a struggle for others

“That’s got to be true about a lot of sports,” Avalon thought out loud, mentally going over all of things she had for ballet-- pointe shoes got replaced the most often, but she had tonnes of workout clothes and leotards and canvas slippers. And that didn’t even take into account the costumes she’d bought over the years. “Like quidditch players have to buy brooms, and better brooms give them an advantage. And herbologists buying expensive plants.”
