Travis Shilling l website - tumblr
Travis Shilling’s paintings tell a story. A filmmaker and playwright, Travis’ work reflects a rich imagination and exceptional skill. Travis’ recent paintings juxtapose civilization and the animal world in a narrative dreamscape. His short film “Bear Tung”, featuring Gary Farmer, was a selection in the 2011 National Museum of American Indian in NYC as well as the Santa fe independent film festival in October. Travis was born in Rama, Ontario: the second of two artist sons of acclaimed Aboriginal artist Arthur Shilling. Travis has exhibited since age 21 in Canada, Europe and the US. He travels between a studio in Rama and one in Toronto.

hello everyone coming back to tumblr today upon hearing the latest news
If you’re not keeping up, Cartoon Network sold off most of its original programming over the last few years to run exclusively on HBO Max, but after a merger with Discovery, HBO has taken them all down, including those that were still in production, for what is long story short a big tax write-off. And it’s not a simple matter of them just airing or streaming somewhere else now. It’s a very complicated issue of rights and contracts and money but essentially these shows may never, ever be available again outside piracy and their creators may never get money again. Some completed episodes may also be lost media. For a couple of series, such as Mao Mao and Infinity Train, Cartoon Network has gone back and scrubbed all tweets, youtube clips or other mention of the series existence, confirming they likely no longer have the rights to take them anywhere else. The tweet today by the creator of Tig N’ Seek made me saddest.
A lot of people this week have simply given up on their industry careers, seeing years of their life’s work just vanish into a corporate vault overnight. Being able to point to your work on a streaming service had apparently even become a pretty critical part of the portfolios they now rely on to get new jobs.
Streaming media went from an optimistic new frontier to even worse than cable TV so suddenly.
The cycle of innovation under capitalism.
I don’t have animated fandoms but I do follow some artists like Gia Ligammari, who has been tweeting about this. As with many industries there’s been a unionization drive in animation lately (#StoryCraftUnite, #NewDeal4Animation, #EqualPay4EqualPaint), big layoffs (Netflix laid off 150 people in May, 70 of them in animation positions), and big buys with big cuts (the Warner Brothers Discovery acquisition came with an announcement that animation would be cut across platforms).
As artists are pointing out, this isn’t just about making art disappear, this is about strangling their livelihoods: Cutting animated series from streaming is about saving on residuals to the people who made them. Residuals pay directly into the union healthcare plans.
This is anti-art. This is anti-artist. And this is anti-union action.
Whatever your fandom, spare some time this week to find and follow animators, boost their voices, sign their petitions if they have them, and check to see if animators have personal websites and shops–many of them do!! There are stores, Etsy shops, Ko-fi accounts, Patreon pages, Twitch streams, etc. Your favorite animators are probably out there making banging prints, tons of stickers, and other art, clothing, jewelry, and crafts that you can lay your actual hands on. You’d be amazed how many of them have commissions for things like page headers and icons!! (And, for fuck’s sake, please believe artists when they tell you that new AI and style aggregators are detrimental to their work.)
Don’t let HBO, WBD, and other companies tell you what their stats are saying about your viewership and fandom. Be your own voice and keep being active when you love a show. Try to find ways to speak up in support of the artists who make your shows possible. Because they are people and they’re out there on the front lines of this right now.
Probably the most dramatic chase scene in cartoon history.

Story idea:
The protagonist is a young woman without much going for her, who somehow ends up in a scam in which she'll impersonate a local rich isolated weirdo's previously unknown daughter in order to get adopted and inherit him.
She's 100% sure there's no fucking way that this will work, but as soon as she shows up he's like "ah, of course, I remember nothing about your mother but you look just like her" and takes her in.
The dude is really fucking weird but treats her well, and after a while she begins to trust him, and feel bad about planning to betray him. She begins to help him clear out his old creepy hoarder house mansion, and actually convinces him to start using the money he's been sitting on into useful things, including donating to the social program that helped her survive her teens.
She tries to keep her distance, but despite of being born into so much wealth that he's completely out of touch with normal peoples' reality, he's been so damn nice that eventually she confesses the whole scam.
He, too, has a confession - it turns out that he had his testicles entirely removed in 1994, he's known all along that there's absolutely no way at all that he has biological children, but at his age he had started to regret that his lack of practical social skills has prevented him from having friends or starting a family, so when she showed up on his doorstep he just went
