Croda da Lago cuts into the sky in the Dolomites of northern Italy. I couldn't believe my eyes with these amazing mountains. Looks peaceful right? Well about 50 feet to my left was my good 'ole rental car, wedged in and stuck on the road up to Cinque Torre. Yup, nailed it! Asked for an SUV, but apparently they don't have those to rent...So, as the road got a little too rugged, I asked Natalie to direct me in turning around in a little nook on the road. We didn't quite see the higher ridge on the back left that I precisely drove up onto and spun out on with the mud and then had no room to move forward. Totally stuck, blocking the road—awesome. So as this perfect light was beginning to show on the face of the mountains, I was digging in the dirt, then hiking to the Refugio to call in a tow truck—thank God that was an option. These guys were amazing with their mini-tow truck, rigging an insane pulley system around a boulder and lifting the car out of this predicament. As we were waiting for the tow truck I took a stress relieving moment to snap off a few frames of Croda da Lago with the last slice of sunlight on the mountains and the rising moon behind. Not exactly the evening in the Dolomites I had planned, but we survived! Our few days in the Dolomites was an incredible experience, but this was the only evening we actually got any light. So one day I will have to return! (at Croda da Lago - 2046m)
