ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME
I DEMAND THIS TO BE A THING
Hydrogen in our veins, it cannot hold itself, our blood is boiling And the pressure in our bodies that echoes up above it is exploding And our particles that burn it all because they aim for each other And although we stick together it seems that we are stranging one another.

Nanoparticle Disguised as a Blood Cell Fights Bacterial Infections
The “nanosponges” work by targeting so-called pore-forming toxins, which kill cells by poking holes in them.
One of the most common classes of protein toxins in nature, pore-forming toxins are secreted by many types of bacteria, including Staphylococcus aureus, of which antibiotic-resistant strains, called MRSA, are endemic in hospitals worldwide and cause tens of thousands of deaths annually. They are also present in many types of animal venom.
There are a range of existing therapies designed to target the molecular structure of pore-forming toxins and disable their cell-killing functions. But they must be customized for different diseases and conditions, and there are over 80 families of these harmful proteins, each with a different structure.
Using the new nanosponge therapy, says Zhang, “we can neutralize every single one, regardless of their molecular structure.”
Zhang and his colleagues wrapped real red blood cell membranes around biocompatible polymeric nanoparticles. A single red blood cell supplies enough membrane material to produce over 3,000 nanosponges, each around 85 nanometers (a nanometer is a billionth of a meter) in diameter.
Since red blood cells are a primary target of pore-forming toxins, the nanosponges act as decoys once in the bloodstream, absorbing the damaging proteins and neutralizing their toxicity. And because they are so small, the nanosponges will vastly outnumber the real red blood cells in the system, says Zhang. This means they have a much higher chance of interacting with and absorbing toxins, and thus can divert the toxins away from their natural targets.

[Introductions - 1999]
Despite her usual avoidance of loud club like atmospheres, Maya was glad for the New year's party as she navigated her way through the crowds pressed into the decorated function room. The first day of the conference had ended, and everyone was unwinding to the tune of themed music to welcome in the new millennium.
Maya leaned on the bar when she finally reached it. In vain she attempted to catch the attention of the busied bar staff with their frenzied attitudes during the rush for drinks. There was a very real thirst for a healthy dose of the Jack Daniels that sat just beyond her above rows of gleaming glasses. A longed for reward after her talk in which she'd presented to a small room her latest findings on the regrowth of a particular strain of genetically modified plants.
She sighed when the man behind the bar didn't register her repeated calls. So instead she half turned against the counter to survey the swaying bodies and mingling groups nearby until he next wandered her way.
Maya watched in disbelief as he disappeared back inside. She yelled after him to stop, something which was cut off with a cough from smoke irritation. Suddenly the weight slammed into her, her hands catching the familiar material of her bag as he returned.
“Yeah, any second now.” She hauled the bag over her shoulder and moved with him to lead towards the nearest fire exit. She raised her voice to shout over the ringing alarms, a distant wailing of sirens also beginning to make that task harder. “I am safety trained! It was an unexpected reaction in what should have been a stable sample!” She led him down through a couple corridors until they came upon the exit on which Maya pushed against roughly. They flew open, rattling in their frames. She stopped around ten feet from the door, still coughing before it cleared enough to allow her to drink in the cold and crisp air, free of smoke and heat.
“But employment, you say?” She bent over, hands on knees while she answered with little breath. The bag slipped off her shoulder, the strap cascading to her elbow while the main body thudded against the floor. She threw her other arm up, vaguely gesturing to the building they’d just run out of.
“That was my office, with a small sample. In a lab that’d be at least ten times worse, and a daily occurrence.” She stood slowly, more steady and allowing herself a weak smile. “Still considering me as a potential employee?”
“And a lab is a much more prepared and regulated environment.” Justin countered, offering a hand forward. “I’m Justin Hammer, CEO and main shareholder of Hammer Industries. We’re known for our weapons but we do many other projects and I’ve been following what I can of your research, and I must say, I’m mildly intrigued.” He pulls them out of the way of the fire department, sitting on a curb by the building and smiling when a Japanese woman appears, looking semi-murderous. “And this is Miyuki, she’s my driver and PA.”
“I am not even going to lecture you.” Miyuki declares, handing both he and Maya bottles of water. “You idiot.”
“Consider me properly chagrined.” He opened it and knocked back half greedily, soothing his smoke-irritated throat and looking back to Maya. “Understand this would be working for a private company, not the government. Bit different program to march to.”
Maya shook the hand when it was offered, listening carefully through the next few minutes as they sat out of the way. She uttered a mumbled word of thanks to Miyuki upon receiving the water bottle and after drinking deeply she wiped her mouth with the back of her hand. A sooty smudge on her face transferred to the wet skin, which she pondered before answering.
"I understand. It would be nice to be working in more structured atmosphere..." She started before taking a slight pause, already hesitant. "But I've heard of Hammer industries. Though you say you support these 'other projects,' I need to know what sort of market you hope to plug my work into. Since I assume you're referring to my Extremis serum."
She nodded to the building, from which smoke was still curling from windows into the darkening afternoon sky. "I can imagine how a demonstration like that might be interesting to a private weapons manufacturer."

“Actually, I was told to find you. Mr. Stark has a present for you.” Cecilia held out a file with a few sheets of paper in it.”
"Present?" Maya reached out, taking the file and briefly flicking through it before she looked back up.
"He didn't say what this was in reference to?" Her eyes scanned down the page quickly and adding, "You're his new assistant then?"
