The height of Black Hatâs manor, found with mathâ˘
So recently, Alan Ituriel, creator of Villainous, released this image:
I realized that given that we know Flugâs height, and we see him standing against the door of the manor in Bad Security, so maybe it could be possible to find the height of the manor with some simple fractions and such. Possible? Yes. Simple? Not as much as I thought.
My first though was to just take the image of Flug standing against the door, find the meter to pixel ratio, use that to find the height of the door, look at a screenshot of the front of the house, and then just find that ratio for that image and find the height of the house! But there was a problem.
In this image, Flug is squating. This wouldnât do, after all, in the image Alan released, it lists Flugâs standing height. So I checked every single frame of the scene, and unfortunately, in every single one, he was either very clearly not standing up straight, or it was indeterminable, and I wanted this estimate to be as accurate as possible. So how did I solve this?
When you squat, unless you hunch, your upper body does not change height, so, in that image of Flug against the door, his upper body must be the same height as in the released image, so all I had to do was find his upper body height.
From the lowest point of Flugâs right shoe to the top of his bag in this image is 563 pixels. This places the height of a pixel to be about 0.003143872 meters. Flugâs upper body in this image is 300 pixels, placing itâs height at about 0.943 meters.
Back to the image of Flug squating against the door.
In this image, Flugâs upper body is 217 pixels tall, and, because his upper body must be the same, also about 0.943 meters tall. This means that 1 pixel equals about 0.0043 meters. Now, here, I realized I didnât even need to figure out the height Flugâs lower body. Given that Flug is pressed against the wall, it is fair to assume that the pixel/meter ratio for the âlayerâ the door is on is, for all practical purposes, the same. The length between the floor and the bottom of the door handle to the left of Flug is 362 pixel, and, using the previously found pixel height, is thus about 1.57 meters tall.
Hereâs a pic of Black Hatâs manor, in all itâs evil glory. As you can see, I have drawn a red line from the ground to the left (obviously now on the right) door handle. Although it is blurry, it would only be off by a few pixels at most, and this isnât an attempt at a perfect height, so keep that in mind. Anyways, this red line is 26 pixels in height.
The manor is 19 of these lines, plus 5 pixels. If we take 19 & 5/26ths times the height of a red line in meters, abut 1.57, we get our final answer.
About 30 meters, or about 98 feet.
A boring number yes, but still, there it is.
