I’m going to scream. Pushback on the narrative that climate breakdown can be averted by individual decisions centres around the fact that NORMAL PEOPLE do not contribute to a significant amount of carbon emissions cos the average NORMAL PERSON emits 7 tons of CO2 a year. Not Taylor fucking Swift who has emitted over 8000 tons of emissions this year SO FAR. Her CO2 emissions from private jet use alone are equivalent to that of TWO THOUSAND normal people. We absolutely should be blaming individuals if those particular individuals are emitting two thousand people’s worth of emissions.
“We should be addressing structural issues” my brother in Christ widespread private jet use is a structural issue. Celebrity culture and the extravagant lifestyle that comes with it is a structural issue. These are whole industries that are massively impacting climate breakdown but because Taylor happens to be the most egregious case her stans want to pretend it’s not a problem. Stan culture really is a disease
I feel frozen in time.
My dad doesn't care about me. He never has, but, now, nothing is possible. I'm not the first kid he abandoned either. I wonder if now my mom understands why he's miserable sometimes. Maybe it's why he drinks. Or is it just another reason he gets to tell himself to make him feel better? Do they sit around the bonfire at night talking about how much they hate me? What a relief it is for them for me to finally stop "bickering". Or do they still still in different bedrooms watching TV? Is the house quieter than it's been before? Does my dog get any attention, or are they so focused on themselves they're neglecting her again? I'll never know.
During counseling yesterday I was completely checked out. I woke up that morning with the single word in my brain: Parents. That's all, nothing attached, just PARENTS. I was raised as the invisible child, something that I've also recently come to terms with.
Whenever I say that I was abused I always said, "I was abused emotionally, not physically". Almost like I was covering for them. Here is what my therapist said to me after I said that: "______, you've still been abused though, you were left on your own to defend yourself while growing up. You're parents didn't nurture you, they used the cry it out method and still do to this day. Hell, they made fun of you when you'd cry so much you'd throw up. Even though they didn't leave any marks on you, it doesn't mean you weren't abused. Every time you've let them back into your life, you've gone back to therapy because something traumatic happens. They never go to therapy, but you do and they learn nothing. They've been pinning their problems on you before you were born, like calling you an accident and an "oops baby" your entire life. I'm telling you, there are people that should just not be parents and yours were not emotionally equipped or available."
It was like a train hit me. I started to cry, ugly cry. I was so sad and mad (smad) that I was learning more reasons as to why I'm fucked up. I'm 31 and I've been protecting them for so fucking long. I never realized I was going back to therapy whenever they did something. I have been in therapy, since I was 15 (for an eating disorder mainly), it feels very normal for me to be in it. But I never realized that 90% of the reason I'm still in there is because of them. Because they'll never get help. So I pass it down in hopes that something will stick and it never does. My mom has said, "You can go to therapy for me and let me know what I need to do" the last time she left her second session because she thought the therapist was "too young".
I feel like I've finally had a real breakthrough.
and a big fuck you to my previous therapist who told me to just "love them anyways".
you are not a machine. you are more like a garden. you need different things on different days. a little sun today, a little less water tomorrow. you have fallow and fruitful seasons. it is not a design flaw. it is wiser than perpetual sameness. what does your garden need today?

Now this is something I’d watch on tv!

Mushrooms weren't as fun as I thought they'd be. I always think I have a plan but I always end up watching too much television. I was in my head too much, I think. I associate tripping with Gatsby and I haven't seen her more than two times in six months, if that. I just want to be really stupid and not judged but I always feel like I am. I want things to contort and walls to move. I want to see myself crawling on the ceiling. I want to lay on the ground and feel the euphoria wash over me like a great blue wave. I want to feel all the good and none of the bad.
I felt like I could walk the bike path and picked something up. Just some coke would be nice or some acid. I don't want Andrew to know how much I want his friend's drugs.
