The last thing Wills had meant to do was upset Ezra with what he had just said. He knew it had nothing to with him or with them though, nodding slowly at the other man’s words, letting him speak. “I’ll miss you too.” He finally says, reaching over to brush a stray tear from Ezra’s cheek. “Hey…listen to me, okay? You take as much time as you need. Whenever you’re ready…you know where to find me.” Wills murmurs gently, pressing his lips to Ez’s forehead, lingering there for a moment. The last thing he wanted to do was pressure Ezra in any way. His recovery was far more important than him visiting him in LA or anything else. Their relationship was solid. Wills knew that. He didn’t have eyes or feelings for anyone else. And most of all, he believe in Ezra just as much as be believed in the two of them as a couple. “And I mean…we’re still gonna talk a lot and stuff. The time difference isn’t too bad. We can Facetime. I know it won’t be the same as Goldstein family pizza night, but…I can get my own pizza and we can have our own pizza date night, right? We’re gonna be fine, Ez. I promise.”

Ez wanted to say more, to be more for Wills, but he couldn’t, because he first had to be more for himself and he was still working on that. He wished he could say something, or be what Wills deserved. He wished he could be better for so many people. But all he could muster was just how much he’d miss him. And this. Wills had a way of making him like everything would be okay, eventually. Biting his lip as he nods at Wills, Ez tries to quietly hide a sniffle. “I know.” He manages, a sad but genuine smile on his face at the actor’s reassuring words. The time difference wasn’t too bad. He knew that much. But Wills would be busy and he—he couldn’t promise anything other than the fact he would try to get better. Ez decided to believe him, though. They would be fine. “I don’t think there’s a better spot than Tony’s so I’m still the lucky one but... yeah, I’d like that. If you’re not too busy. I’d like that.”

“An understanding.” Wills supplies, nodding slowly. Heh ad heard a little bit about the spot from both his siblings, and he was honored that Ezra felt comfortable enough to share it with him as well. “I’m glad that you did.” He adds after a moment, his voice quiet despite it only being the two of them. They both knew that his time in Nashville was coming to an end, even if neither of them wanted to talk about it. But they had to. Wills knew that they had to, he just wasn’t sure exactly how to bring it up. Taking a breath, he looks back at Ez, trying to find the right words. “Look…I know that I’m heading to LA soon and I don’t know what that means for us, but…I do know how much I care about you and how much you mean to me, Ez. Being in Nashville with you has been, so, so special. And I know that it sucks that I’m leaving right as we’re finding our footing again, but…I don’t want it to change things between us. Because  I love you, Ezra, I’m in love with you.” And you don’t have to say it back or anything if you’re not ready, but I just wanted you to know.“

An understanding. Ez smiles and nods in return. It was the second time he brought Wills to the spot since his return to Nashville. Once after David and Noah’s rehearsal dinner, and again now. It was almost like a beginning and an end, a start and a finish line. This was as much of a goodbye as any. Wills life was elsewhere, and his was back in Nashville. “Wills—” Ez tried to interrupt Wills, his heart beating faster even before the actor said the words, shaking his heads softly, almost regretfully. He wanted Wills to go and focus on his career and his future without anything coming in the way of that, not even him. He wouldn’t be able to live with himself if what Wills felt for him now messed up his dream just as he was so close to reach it. Ez could feel tears welling in his eyes, his chest burning by the lack of air as he didn’t realize he had been holding his breath. There were so many emotions taking over him he had to remind himself to breathe. His eyes had been so intently locked with Wills’ as he spoke every word, even now as they both fell quiet and a tear escaped him, cold against his burning cheek. Despite it all, he couldn’t look away from those bright eyes staring right back at him. “I’ll miss you.” He said instead, his voice cracking a little before he caught himself. “I’ll get better and I’ll come find you, when I’m ready.” To be by himself. To fly. To say the words back. Ez leaned to rest his head softly on Wills’ shoulder, sighing.

Wills knew that he had been taking a risk when he had showed up at the Goldstein house looking for Ezra. He wasn’t sure if the other man would want to see him or be upset that he had spoken to one of his brothers about him. It had all worked out though, and he thought that things were going pretty well between them. Wills had meant it when he had said he was there for Ezra regardless of what their relationship was. All he wanted was to support Ezra, however he needed him.

The invitation to his family’s favorite spot hadn’t gone unnoticed though. He knew it was a special place for the Goldstein family and he was honored to have it be shared with him. They were sitting watching the sun set while dinner was cooking in the fire, quietly taking in the scenery and its beauty. When Ezra finally speaks, Wills smiles, humming quietly before he responds. “It is.” The actor replies, looking away from the water to look back at the brunette, smiling back at him. “It’s best not to question that kind of magic, I think. All we can do is enjoy it…and I think that your family does. Your secret’s safe with me, I promise.” 

Ezra sits quietly with a smile as he takes in the view before them, a perfectly, crystalline lake so familiar and comforting to him which he had decided to share with Wills, all jokes aside, because it meant something more. He drops his gaze for a moment, feeling the actor’s eyes on him. “I know.” Even after Wills reached out to his family behind his back, Ez trusted him. It took him some time to heal and see things for what they truly were, to move past his anger and frustration, mostly with himself, to know what Wills had done had been in his best interest. He trusted Wills, despite everything, perhaps more than he trusted anyone else beside his family. When he lifts his gaze back to the actor, he smiles at the realization. “It’s kind of an unspoken rule, well, not really unspoken but,” He shrugs and snorts. “It’s our special place. It’s our spot.” And now it was theirs, too. That’s what he’s trying to say but the words fail him. The words failed him often, especially around Wills. “I wanted to share it with you, before you left.” His voice lowered. Wills would leave. That notion was very present in Ezra’s mind. His time in Nashville was counted, and his departure kept getting closer. It scared him. Not knowing what it meant for them, for him, when Wills left.

Ez started feeling better after Wills’ visit, his energy picking up little by little in the following days until he felt like leaving the house. He was a work in progress. Recovery was not a straight line. He had come to terms with himself on this already but he was still worried about how this would affect his friendship with Wills. His insecurities came with the territory but he made a big effort in trusting the actor when he said they would find their way again. That he would be there every step of the way. Ez knew that was a lot to ask. He couldn’t promise him much at this point but the fact that he was trying, truly trying. 

In an effort to make up for it all, Ez invited Wills to the spot. He had prepped their meal in foil packets: a mix of sirloin tips with onions and carrots, and potatoes, seasoned with garlic and parsley, oregano, salt and pepper. It was a simple camping recipe he knew all too well from his dad and knowing he would not be able to match a Scavo-Healy’s pasta expertise, he thought making a day out of it might be fun. He also missed the outdoors, the fresh air, and this was, after all, a special place. His feet are dangling, sitting shoulder to shoulder next to Wills as they both stare out towards the lake, watching the sun set in the horizon. “It’s nice here, isn’t it?” He wasn’t sure if Wills knew exactly what this place meant thought it wasn’t the first time they had been there together, smiling as he looks at the actor. “A little escape from the city. I have no idea how we’ve managed to keep this place a secret for as long as we have, really.” The view was perfect. Not once had any of the Goldstein come back to find their things missing or misplaced. They had installed lightbulbs and claimed the spot as their own piece of land. A most treasured place they were extremely careful with whom they shared it with precisely so they could continue to enjoy it as it was. “I guess I should have you swear to secrecy now, too.” He teased. He trusted Wills.

“I know. It’s okay, Ezra. Really. I didn’t think you were ignoring me.” Wills murmurs reassuringly, shaking his head. He didn’t need Ez to make anything up to him. He didn’t need anything from him other than for him to take the time that he needed for himself. “Alright. You can make me dinner at my place.” Wills finally says, pressing his lips to Ezra’s forehead lightly. For a moment he isn’t sure what to talk about, mostly because all he’s been doing lately is looking over scripts his agent sent him and he doesn’t think either of them really want to think about his inevitable move to LA. So he opts for a funny childhood story instead, idly running his fingers through Ezra’s hair as he begins his story. “Okay, so…it’s Father’s Day, right? We were kids…still in elementary school, I think. Dad was filming so we were on location for the summer and David, Italia, and I got this idea to surprise our dads with breakfast. Which, of course, really just resulted in us making a huge mess in the kitchen, but…it was a lot of fun. We made pancakes and bacon…which us frying bacon by ourselves was probably a bad idea in hindsight, but thankfully nobody got hurt. It wasn’t a gourmet breakfast or anything, but…I dunno. It’s the little things that count, right?”

It hurts to laugh when Wills asks him to make him dinner instead, wheezing through the chuckles as he buried his face deeper in his pillow. He hugs his ribs under the cover as it that would make it hurt any less. He had barely uttered a word before Wills had been there.  “Alright.” He eventually agrees, quietly. “I can do that.” Even in the darkness of his room, he swears he can see the brightness of Wills eyes staring back at him. Captivating. Understanding. Tender. Ez can’t help but smile softly at the memory shared, trying to picture a younger Wills. Despite the obvious differences between their families and their upbringing, they also shared many similarities that helped them understand each other, where they came from. The chances of their paths crossing had been so slim, and even when they did, for them to find each other this way was not exactly meant to happen, yet here they were. Right now. Sharing childhood memories. Holding onto each other. “Fridays.” Ez starts sharing a memory of his own. “Fridays were always my favorite. We’d have pizza before heading out or splitting to make it to one of Henry’s or Matty’s games, or just watching movies at home. We barely all fit on the couch but we made it work. It’s the little things that count.” He swallows quietly. How many times had he wished they could just go back to that time, that age. Life felt so less heavier back then. “What would you like?” He asks after a moment. “For dinner?”

Settling down beside Ezra under the blankets, Wills wraps his arms around the other man’s waist, pulling his body closer. His chin rests on Ezra’s shoulder, just laying there with him quietly. All he wants is for Ezra to know that he’s there for him, through the good and bad and everything in between. “It’s okay. Um, Brooks texted me. I hope that’s alright.” The actor finally says, hoping Ez won’t be too mad at his little brother. Brooks was only trying to help. “You don’t have anything to apologize for, Ez. I mean it.” Wills adds, raking his fingers through the other man’s hair slowly, trying to comfort him. “I know, I know. It’s alright. You’re doing your best. That’s all you need to do. I promise.” 

Ezra isn’t surprised that Brooks was the one reaching out to Wills. He didn’t move or make a sound when Wills told him, either, just let his eyes close for a moment as the other man wrapped his arms around him, letting himself be held. He relaxed into the touch almost instantly but part of him was nervous. He hated the fact that Wills had to see him like this, had to put up with it again after everything he had put him through already. “I wanted to.” Ez says quietly. “I needed to.” He adds, shaking his head softly before, after a minute or two, he turns in his be to face Wills. His eyes are tired, not form a lack of sleep but an abundance of it. “I didn’t mean to ignore you. I didn’t want to waste the time we have together while you’re here. I have all of these things in my mind but I can’t do anything about it even if I want to. I just, can’t.” It was frustrating, the internal battle, the voices in his head that told him to get over himself while he also understood there was nothing else he could do but give it some time. He had learned not to be so hard on himself through therapy and the meetings. It didn’t mean it was easier every time. “I’ll make it up to you.” Ez whispers even if it’s only the two of them in the room. “Can you talk to me? About anything. I just... want to hear your voice.”

The last thing Wills wanted to be when it came to Ezra was pushy. He wasn’t upset over the fact that he hadn’t heard from him for a couple of days, but when but when Brooks had texted him to let him know he was having a rough time, Wills was definitely worried. He wasn’t sure if he should just show up at the Goldstein house unannounced despite the fact that he knew that he was welcome there and that Brett and Ethan knew about him and Ezra, not wanting to cross a line with Ez. But eventually he convinces himself it’ll be okay if he just stops by to check in, even if he doesn’t stay. He’d leave if Ezra asked him to, but it wouldn’t hurt to at least try. Luckily, the Goldstein’s don’t seem too bothered by his impromptu visit, welcoming him inside. Brett hands him a glass of water for Ezra while Ethan goes to tell him that he’s here, offering them a small, grateful smile before disappearing down the hallway to the guest bedroom. Leaving the glass on the nightstand, Wills clears his throat softly to announce his presence, already kicking off his shoes after he steps inside. “If you want me to go, I’ll go.” The actors says quietly, moving to sit beside the lump under the covers that was Ezra, giving what he thinks is his shoulder a light squeeze. “But if it makes no difference to you, I’d like to lay with you a while.”

Ez is quiet for a good minute or two after Wills  comes into his room. Even if he’s not looking, he can hear every move, every breath. There’s a dead silence once his own voice quiets down in his apologies until Wills speaks, and for the life of him, all he wants is to hear that voice more, closer, but he can’t find words to express it. He know the moment Wills sits on his mattress, relaxes a little at the touch to his shoulder, and between a shivering sigh, he manages to look into Wills’ eyes and nod ever so slightly. His grip loosens even if he barely moves. He doesn’t really have to. He’s curled against one side of the bed. He hates it. He hates everything about it. He hates feeling so powerless, so out of himself. Ez feels so small in so many meanings to the word. For a moment he just lays there like a dead body, perfectly still, barely breathing, both wanting Wills to hold him and hating the fact that he’s seeing him like this at the same time. He’s not sure how long it’s been before he speaks, voice broken and tired and dry. “I’m sorry I didn’t call.” Ez tries to explain why he didn’t not because Wills asked but because he wanted him to know it really had nothing to do with him. “I don’t really know when it happens, or why. It just does.” That sentence alone was probably the most he had said in a while. It physically hurt to speak, really. All his energy was drained. His throat burned. He felt like crying. “It just does and I can’t help it even though I try. I really try, Wills. I’m sorry.” Ez repeated his apology again and again, instinctively burying his face against Wills’ chest.

The thing about anxiety and depression was that it would always crawl up on you when you least expected it. Ezra had been feeling perfectly fine for days straight. A lot of it had to do with Wills’ being in town. They had been spending some time together and, to be honest, he had been feeling better than in a very long time, but then it hit him. It started slowly one morning when his alarm went off for his morning jog with his abba and he skipped because he was too tired. Then it showed as he picked on his breakfast without eating half of it, all sense of taste failing him. He ignored all calls and messages not entirely on purpose but because moving from bed to get his phone felt like a heavier task than it was. He didn’t notice a day had gone by since he last showered, curled up in bed under the covers, zoning the world out. Ez could hear the door to his room open and close, his parents checking in on him, closing his eyes when he was not already fast asleep so to not worry them more. What he hated the worse was knowing what was happening and wanting to make it stop but not being able to. He cried and he slept. He fought chills and tried to drown the headaches. He was embarrassed. You have a visitor, kid, Wills heard his dad say from the door. I can tell him to come back later but I think you might want to see him. Ez heard Ethan hesitate by the door, his vision blurry as he looked in his direction. He wanted to tell his dad to send Wills back. He didn’t want to be seen in this state. He didn’t have the energy to do either that or stand up to receive Wills in his room. Instead, he wrapped the covers closer around his body, pressing his face against his pillow as if that would hide him from the rest. “I’m sorry.” He whispered over and over again when he heard the steps, voice hoarse.

“Whew. I’m glad to hear it.” Wills jokes back when Ezra returns, smiling back at the other man. Wrapping an arm around the brunette’s shoulders, he pulls him closer, pressing his lips to the top of Ezra’s head lightly. “Hey yourself.” Even though they had spent all evening together, there was something softer, more intimate about having Ezra laying in bed beside him. He had missed these quiet moments the most, he thought. “And I’m glad that you’re here.” Wills adds after a moment, his lips brushing over Ezra’s before he kisses him properly, cupping his cheek in his hand. “I missed you.” 

Ezra could feel his heart racing a little as he joined Wills in bed, not because he was nervous or scared of sharing the close space with the actor but because he had longed for it. Just being given the chance to salvage their friendship was more than he could truly ask of the man who now wrapped his arms around him, whose lips brushed against his leaving him breathless. “I missed you too.” His voice, quiet and still recovering from the kiss’s effect on him. He missed Wills, not just from today or for a few weeks. He missed Wills not just physically. It was this feeling he didn’t quite have the right words to describe it, not exactly belonging but a perfect sense of kinship, a connection that was both effortless and real. He missed Wills, and he missed this person he wanted to be when Wills was around. It was almost a stranger now, this version of himself, hopeful, eager, worthy. Cuddling closer against the actor, Ez rested his head lightly against his shoulder, nuzzling the crook of his neck, comfortable in Wills’ arms. “I missed us. There was a us, wasn’t there? Just under the surface. I miss them. The good parts, at least. The fun parts.” There was more to them, too, a darker side of it Ez didn’t want to bring up. “But this is good too, maybe even better.” His lips smiled quietly against Wills skin, tilting his head back enough to catch sight of his blinding eyes, the actor’s arm wrapped around him, keeping him close. This was definitely better.

“Mm, if you stay in bed with me then you can’t get lost.” Wills teases, grinning back at Ezra. He’s mostly teasing, though a weekend in bed with the other man in bed sounded pretty perfect to him. Any time with Ezra was. They were finding their footing again, finding each other again, and Wills was soaking it all in. “I’m not stealing, I’m borrowing.” He adds, leaning his cheek into the other man’s hand for a moment before pulling him towards the bed, falling back onto the mattress. “Go get changed and then get your cute butt back here for cuddles.”

“I could be persuaded.” Ez chimes back, grinning at the actor’s teasing. They kept moving from the flirting to the tip toeing around this they were doing. Ez knew Wills was letting him take the lead. He also knew he wasn’t sure where to lead them to. This was a start. Spending time with Wills had always been easy. He couldn’t always understand it but they clicked in many ways. He felt the most comfortable around Wills. Even as shitty as it had been in New York, they made really good friends. They had similar interests. They could sit together in perfect silence and be completely comfortable. Ez splashes some cold water on his face and runs a hand through his hair before stepping back into the room, looking at himself in the mirror for a moment. He was much skinnier now, his cheekbones more prominent. It was hard not to feel a little self conscious about it in Wills’ presence. Letting his head fall back with a sigh, he did his best to get rid of that thought before he joined the actor in bed. “Surprisingly didn’t get lost on my way back here.” Ez joked, lifting the covers before scooting a little closer to Wills’ side. “Hey.” He said after a moment, as if it was the first time they had seen each other all night. As if he wasn’t just dying to kiss him again.

“You still can whenever you’d like.” Wills is quick to reply, smirking back at Ezra. He definitely didn’t mind seeing him wearing his clothes and he didn’t mind lending them to Ez at all. Already moving to the dresser to grab sweats and a t-shirt for Ezra, Wills looks over his shoulder at the other man, chuckling quietly at his words. “Hey, I like your parent’s house. It’s a nice place.” The Goldstein’s place was cozy, homey. Wills always felt welcomed there. “You forget that I’m a twin too. David and I shared a room growing up. I get it. The twin thing, I mean.” He shrugs at that, taking a step closer to Ezra so he can kiss hm, smiling against his lips. “Me either. ‘Cause I really do like kissing you whenever I want.” 

“I didn’t say it wasn’t.” Ez grins, quietly accepting the offered change of clothes. “I’m just saying we can’t get away with much there and here we can get lost just moving from one room to another.” Even if the Scavo-Healy house was huge, it still had a homely feeling to it. It was very them. He wasn’t sure how to describe it. He wasn’t sure how to describe a Scavo-Healy. They were so much more than what they appeared to be, and they already appeared to be everything. Ez had been starstruck the first time he met Dan Scavo-Healy, could barely get a word out. The same happened with Wills, to some extent, until Henry’s wedding. Even if that one time wasn’t really supposed to mean a whole lot, it did. They had connected throughout the days after the wedding, clinging to the moments while Wills was in Nashville, both knowing whatever they were doing had an expiration date but deciding to ignore it. Then New York happened, and everything after that. Ez pressed his lips in a thin line at the thought, watching Wills come closer, smiling into the kiss. “I haven’t forgotten a single thing about you, Wills.” He admitted, shaking his head with a chuckle. “And you’re stealing lines from Sweet Home Alabama now?” He whispered, thumb brushing against the actor’s jaw.

“We have something you can borrow.” Wills promises, nodding back at Ezra. He appreciated the fact that Brett and Ethan seemed to trust him with Ezra, or at least the fact that they felt comfortable enough at the idea of Ez sleeping over. Not that Ezra really needed their permission given he was a grown man, but still. Wills knew they were just looking out for him. “Great. I think I might be able to find some space for you.” The actor teases, knowing that there was more than enough room in the house for Ezra along with a few other guests. Taking Ezra’s hand, Wills smiles, pressing a soft kiss to his cheek before he starts to pull him out of the kitchen, leading him towards the room he was staying in. “C’mon, it’s not that big. But I’m happy to be your guide…especially if it means I get to lead you into bed with me.”

Ezra smiled quietly as he followed Wills towards the room, their hands linked. It wasn’t the first time he had been to the Scavo-Healy house in Nashville but it was definitely a little different notion now when a Scavo-Healy offered to make some space for him. They were still navigating a very gray area of their relationship, he knew that much, where would this lead, what did it mean, what would happen between them— “I was getting used to borrowing your sweaters now.” Ez teased. Wills was taller than him but it was mostly how much thinner he was now that made the actor’s clothes on him look and feel so much bigger than any time they had borrowed clothes before. It made Ez feel a little self-conscious about his own body image, which made his smile falter for a moment before shrugging, dismissing his own thoughts as they got to Wills’ room. “Wills, the living room and kitchen area alone are probably the same size as my parents’ place, you know that, right?” Ez laughed, shaking his head. It’s not that the Goldstein house was a shoebox but they definitely didn’t have a room for each of them, not that they cared really. “I had to share a room with Henry until he moved out and the twins, well, I don’t think you could separate the twins even if we had dozens of vacant rooms.” He chuckled, smiling regardless. They had a good childhood. His parents had given them so much, not just material things but experiences and affection. Ez hated that he put them through so much pain and worry. “I don’t mind having the place all to ourselves, though. I don’t mind that at all.”

When Ezra says he doesn’t want to go either, Wills smiles, leaning in to steal another kiss from his lips. “Then stay.” He murmurs quietly, leaning his cheek into the other man’s touch. There was more than enough space at the house for the two of them, and in all honesty, Wills just wanted to spend the night with Ezra. He didn’t care if all they did was kiss a little and fall asleep together. That honestly sounded perfect to him. He was in no rush to further things between them if Ezra wasn’t ready, perfectly fine with taking things slow. “It’s fine, I’ve got it. Text your dads. Tell them I say hey.” The actor says reassuringly, pressing a kiss to the top of Ezra’s head as he gets up, taking their bowls and trash to the kitchen. “You know, if you’re gonna stay over here from time to time, I wouldn’t mind if you wanted to leave a change of clothes or two. Just think about it.” Wills says, looking back over his shoulder at Ezra. “You can borrow something of mine tonight though if you want.” 

There was no point in pretending. Not really. Not anymore. Even as Ez tried to figure out himself and navigated through his own recovery, he was clear on how he wanted to at least give him and Wills a shot so long as the actor did too. “Funny you mention because my dad asked if I needed him to bring something and I considered asking for sweats but that might lead to follow up questions so I said I was okay. They still say hello, too.” Ez was half joking, walking closer where Wills was finishing cleaning, grabbing a few boxes to clear thought here wasn’t all that much left to do. “I’ll remember. For next time.” There was obviously going to be a next time and both of them knew it, whether it was at the Scavo-Healy house or his parents'. “You’re going to have to lead the way, though, because I’m pretty sure I could get lost in this place.”

Brushing his thumbs over Ezra’s cheeks, Wills smiles back at him, knowing that he was feeling the same feeling of elation that he was. “Me too.” The brunette admits, leaning forward to press another kiss to Ezra’s lips, soft and sweet. Even though they’re done with their movie, Wills doesn’t want Ezra to leave, staying close to him as if that would convince the other man to stay just a little bit longer. Things are still delicate between them, and Wills doesn’t know if he should ask Ezra if he wants to stay over or not, not even sure if he’d want to. Still, the question reminds on his mind until he finally brings himself to say it, his voice quiet. “Do you want to stay over? There’s plenty of room in the guest bed for the both of us…and I kinda don’t want you to go. But if you need to get back home, I totally understand.” 

“I kinda don’t want to go either.” Ez is not about going to deny that. Not right this very second. Not when Wills lips were so close to his, when he could still taste him. They had wasted so much time, he thought, between long distance and bad timing and Ez’s own fault. Reaching a hand to cup the actor’s face, Ez rests his forehead against Will’s and sighs. “I really don’t want to go.” He repeats, reassuringly, because there’s absolutely nowhere else he’d rather be. The fact that he didn’t have a change of clothes only crossed his mind then, and also the fact that he probably should let his parents know he wasn’t coming home that evening. While he appreciated everyone looking after him, it was also frustrating, after being independent for quite some time, to have to be sharing his every move with his parents as an adult. With a sigh, Ez leaned back, searching for his phone. “I can help you clean here. I just... need to text my dads.” He shrugged, an apologetic smile not fully reaching his eyes, knowing he didn’t need to give Wills too much explanations on it.

Ezra’s quiet apology catches Wills a little by surprise, a gentle smile moving over the actor’s lips. “You’re welcome.” He says quietly, nudging Ez’s shoulder with his own. After picking a movie and picking their snacks for the night, the two settle back onto the couch, sitting shoulder to shoulder. As the opening credits start to roll, Wills glances over at Ezra out of the corner of his eye, hesitating for a moment before he moves his arm around the other man’s shoulders, cuddling closer to him. Wills’ attention is half on the movie and half on Ezra the entire time, broken out of his thoughts when he feels Ezra turn slightly beside him. Catching his gaze, he looks back into Ezra’s eyes, instinctively leaning in as the other man does the same. Moving his hands to Ezra’s face once their lips finally meet, Wills kisses Ezra slowly, slightly hesitant at first and then growing deeper.

Though quiet, their movements were speaking loudly as they closed the space between each other on the couch. Ez leaned into Wills instinctively the moment the actor moved his arm around his shoulder, and though he tried to stay focused on the moving playing before them, he kept going over and over Wills’ words in his head. Ez is practically begging for the kiss when their eyes meet again, inching closer to Wills and clinging onto his wrists as the actor cupped his face, unable to stop kissing him once they started. Resting his forehead against Wills when they eventually take a moment to catch their breaths, eyes still close, Ez chuckles. Quietly. Not sure why. Shaking his head softly, he leans back only enough to look into the other man’s eyes. “I’ve been wanting to kiss you since the wedding.” Ever since New York, he found himself second-guessing everything, every move, himself. He was working on it. He didn’t want to waste any more time. Not with Wills. Not when he didn’t know how long they had.

Wills had probably gone slightly overboard on the snacks. Pizza and popcorn and candy sat on the table in front of them, ready to be eaten once they picked a movie. “Yeah.” Nodding at the mention of his list, Wills produces his phone, pulling out the note that had the movie list on it. “The ones with one star are the ones we’ve watched already.” He explains, scooting a little closer so they can look at it together, handing his phone over to Ez so he can scroll through the options, peering over the other man’s shoulder a bit. “I know there’s a lot, but hey…at least there’s something for every genre, right? I, uh, kept updating it.”

Taking Wills phone on his hands, he slowly scrolls through the list of movies, many which were released even after their fallout and his move back to Nashville. The fact that he kept a list for them to watch together tugged at him. A lump forming in his throat made it hard for Ez to say anything as he returned the phone, fearing the actor could his the accelerated beating of his heart considering how close he was now. “Let’s see how far we get, then.” He managed to say and he wasn’t sure why he quickly shook his head and let out an apologetic chuckle. He wasn’t sure how long they had. Ez tried to focus on the screen after they finally picked a title but his head was just reeling over the list. “Hey, Wills?” He quietly interrupted. “Thank you.” He said softly, turning his eyes back to the actor. It wasn’t just the list, he thought, but what it meant. Ez had thought he would never get another chance to do this, to sit like this with his arms around him. He had not been able to forget the last words he had shouted at him. He was so sure Wills would never want anything to do with him again. This list said the opposite. This list gave him hope. This list gave him the urge to kiss him, again, something he had wanted to do so badly since the wedding. He hesitated for second, holding Wills’ gaze, the credits rolling in the background but he couldn’t look away as he slowly inched closer, biting his lower lip.

Wills had texted Ezra earlier in the day to see if he wanted to come over for a (long overdue) movie night, promising pizza and snacks to their heart’s content. He wasn’t sure if Ez needed that much convincing, but he’s still happy when the other man agrees to come over. Throwing a blanket over their laps, Wills settles down on the couch beside Ezra, leaving a little space between them just in case. They were still feeling things out and Wills didn’t want to be pushy in any way. “So what’re you in the mood for? Because I have a few options for us tonight…” Wills asks, turning to glance back at Ezra, smiling over at him. 

Ez didn’t need to be bribed with pizza and snacks to come over but he sure wasn’t turning down the offer. He had been out with Homer and his vintage Leica for a run earlier that day, his cheeks still slightly stained from the sun by the time he made it to David and Noah’s apartment. They hadn’t had a serious talk since the wedding but there was a quiet understanding between them. They were taking it slow, in a way, though Ez didn’t want Wills tiptoeing around him either. He noticed in how he left some space between them even now as the actor joined him on the couch. “I want to hear your options first.” He turns towards Wills which makes brings them a little closer, their knees touching though still not quite close enough for his liking. “You said there was a list?”
