The Aichi D1A was a carrier-based dive bomber produced by the Japanese aircraft manufacturer Aichi Kokuki. The Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service (IJNAS) designation was Navy Type 94/96 Carrier Bomber while the Allied reporting name was "Susie".[4]

11 August 1945. The Nakajima Kikka prototype, Japan's first jet-powered aircraft, was damaged on its second flight. The pilot mistakenly believed the RATO units had failed and shut the main engines to abort takeoff. The Kikka was damaged when it ran off the end of the runway.

Next to the Spitfire, the Heinkel He 111 had arguably the most iconic silhouette of the WWII air war. Over 6,500 of these "greenhouse" nosed, elliptical-winged aircraft were produced, serving extensively across Europe, North Africa, and the Eastern Front as a medium bomber, night fighter, and transport aircraft. Interestingly, it was originally designed to double as an airliner during the '30s 😗
