You Fade to Light, by rAndom International for Philips Lumiblade, Software developed by Chris O'Shea
Feels like a very very advanced version of a small assignment we are doing in class using Max Msp coding.
I think the key divide between the interactive media and the narrative media is the difficulty in opening up an emphatic pathway between the gamer and the character, as differentiated from the audience and the characters in a movie or a television show.
Steven Spielberg
I was very recently watching all of Wes Anderson’s cinematographic oeuvre and really just absolutely enjoying that distinct simplicity of style he has going for him. And it has really become my most recent obsession. Here’s a commercial he directed to parody that very style that comes across in all his movies. If you are not familiar with the Wes Anderson style, maybe this commercial will make you interested!Â
Really thought-provoking “documentary“ by Orson Welles. I watched it recently and it gets you very entangled and sucked into layers deep.
Receive with simplicity everything that happens to you

Mirrors || Mirror from Fabian Kang on Vimeo.
2016 Nov 8. Co-created by Bao Song Yu and Fabian Kang. Concept video co-filmed with Zhou Yang, edited by Fabian Kang.
3D modelled and printed parts, laser-cut acrylic board, Arduino interactive circuit with photocells, Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) and Pezzo buzzer.
Concept: Mirrors || Mirror is a fully functioning interactive art game where players play essentially a kind of ‘chess’. However the objective isn't eliminating the opponent’s pieces as in most chess variants. The twist is that each ‘chess’ piece has been equipped with a mirror. Players will employ both luck and stratagem to get their pieces to form a path, upon which a laser-pointer they activate will score a hit against their opponent.
Mirrors || Mirror took inspiration from a mix of foosball and chess as well as Sci-Fi movie board games like Tri-dimensional Chess in Star Trek and Dejarik in Star Wars. We hope players would appreciate the strategy involved and the aesthetics of our design.
Shotgun Ltd., Shotgun Ltd., 1971, Hard Rock, Heavy Prog.
Really got into this album in the first riff alone. Catchy, groovy and simple in the execution. And the album cover is so so badass, aint it? And although its hard rock, I like the sort of control that was employed in the music here having some light instrumentals. I especially like track 2, Against The Wall, in that respect.
Shotgun Ltd. sprung up for only a couple years in the early 70s. They were mostly still in high school kids and gigged regularly on the weekends. This album was recorded over the course of three months in 1970, but couldn't be released due to many complications, especially the falling out with their manager.
Draw on The Moon, a collaboration between Ai Weiwei and Olafur Eliasson, 2014, shared online canvas.
This work is simple and amazing, it allows us, the global audience to leave our individual mark in the form of drawings.Â

We know these 2 to really be at the forefront of installation art and spaces, creating aesthetic situations and experiences. Ai Weiwei works with recreating cultural phenomena, while Olafur Eliasson is all about natural phenomena. So it is really interesting to see the concept of this project which feels like some sort of primitive human expressions like cave art, yet it is powered by this technology that we harness in today’s age.
Interactive butterfly artworks. Butterflies follow their viewer. First shown in Design Basel 2012.
Baby Flutter continues Harris’ fascination with butterflies and their beautiful forms. Butterflies represent different emotions and meanings in different cultures and are frequently used in both visual and literary arts. Each of the selected species has been re-interpreted as a ‘living’ portrait of the specimens, with each butterfly exhibiting its own unique mannerisms and attributes. When the viewer approaches the artwork the butterfly changes from a resting pose to a flight mode, tracking the viewer to best display its beautiful wings in a slow motion flight.
Continuum, Autumn Grass, 1971, fushion jazz progressive instrumental
Listening, because it is that time of the year (or almost over actually). Anyhow, this is yet another masterpiece which bear testimony that many early 70s albums were severely underrated. Here we have four highly talented musicians in an enthralling performance you will not forget. It is mostly instrumental too, so makes good for quiet afternoon soothing ambiance.
This public installation was at Paris, Gare de Lyon, 2014. So the public were invited to follow instructions and step on keys that played piano notes on the floor. If they get the sequence right, then the pianist will appear to play a melodious tune on the piano. Interesting.. but I thought that they could have gone further somehow in the interaction process..
LE NUAGE by SUPERBIEN, 2009.
Cool projection in this alley wall space in Paris.
Well, here is something a little closer to home. Back in the day when they still called it Iluma, in case you didnt know. Anyway it is called Bugis+ now. Actually I have not exactly seen what the facade does. So was a little surprised seeing this video because there was something ‘bubbly’ and ‘effervescent’ about that light show when I see it here captured in film. Didnt quite get that vibe in real life. the captured and curated aesthetic versus the real life experiential... sometimes it does fall apart doesnt it?
That is exactly what you are talking about photography to be drawing with light. Amazing work by Derick Childress as a proposal to Emily Kern. It is crazy effort and extreme thoughtfullness. Makes me wonder how to better propose to my girlfriend, seeing that we are both artists. Anyhow, I still am certainly intrigued by such works that explore the qualities of the medium rather than merely the visual outcome.
Tom Sachs is a sculptor, probably best known for his elaborate recreations of various Modern icons, all of them masterpieces of engineering and design of one kind or another.
Space Program is one of his more famous and long running projects. He has exhibited this in various ways as part of this whole developmental process in this area of his artistic practice. I find it very interesting in how it creates a narrative and a believablity. In fact, the artist is releasing a film on that very soon. Here is a trailer if you are interested:
