This summer, a tale broke my heart.

The tale called "Dina and the Prince" told the story of a white princess who, at the moment of losing her beauty, becomes a black woman, with acne and nappy hair. The tale was translated into many languages. We know the scope of children's tales, we remember the story told all our lives. Instilling in young girls that they are not beautiful because they are black through a tale really saddened me, because at this age you learn to love yourself and unfortunately you rely a lot on the perception that others have of you.

We are constantly being told that the universal standard of beauty is anything but black. This year, the beauty contests had a "revolution" because Miss America, Miss Universe, Miss World (British version), Miss teen USA, Miss USA and Miss France are diverse black women (nappy hair, dark skin...). Yes they are just beauty contests, but I think they can allow black girls to feel represented and especially encourage them to love themselves as they are. I would like to convey this message of self-appreciation through my art even if it is not perfect. But it makes me really happy to end this year with such a representation of black women

To improve at a certain subject, do it as many times as you can. Take multiple photos, draw pages upon pages of the subject you want to improve on, make sculptures of a similar idea or anatomy to get better.
