Eve blushed a bit at his comment though she was’t quite sure if she agreed with him or not.

She smiled at his compliment of her tattoo and his efforts to use it rather than cover it up with make up. She was surprised to hear he’d turned others away? It seemed silly. She understood that her hair was generally a statement of it’s own but she wasn’t that much more unique than most. In fact she tried to blend in where possible. She worried for a moment about the job she was taking but a few moments of unwanted spotlight were worth a second income. “I’m a museum conservator at the Field Museum of Natural History.” It sounded fancy but she simplified the job to what she really did.

“I restore old books.”

Tymm listened with genuine fascination as the woman explained her positions. ❝Ah… I’ve visited several time. It may not seem like it, but along with fashion design and science, I find myself fascinated with history. The most interesting fashions actually have roots in history, so it would be idiotic of me to ignore the inspiration of so many.❞

❝Well, I shall get right on your back. It is for your books, correct? Be sure to arrive early in the morning. I’ll get you that new back and we’ll pick out a few outfits for you to keep and wear when you are not modeling.❞

Eve smiled at his reassurance. She swore she was like the books she worked on, open and easy to read. She was a little surprised by the early start date but the sooner she could work she sooner she could catch up on her rent.

She smiled at his comment. At least she still had some surprises left. “Sure,” she easily lifted the side of her shirt to show most of the water colour tattoo that crossed her body. It was a work of art she took a lot of pride in, it’s meaning was close to her heart after all.

Tymm stepped back to look at her tattoo. His eyes examined the colors and shapes. ❝You certainly sport a lot of red for someone so shy. Perhaps it speaks more to the true you that you’re fighting so very hard to hide...❞ He spoke as if thinking the entire time.

❝It is beautiful, truly. We shall simply be sure that, if it is visible in certain attire, that we coordinate the colors because it can only add to anything I would have you wear. My customers are all very unique, therefore a model of mine will need to be unique, not some cookie cutter and you certainly would not fit in with those I’ve already turned away. I have a feeling that you will truly gain quite a bit through working with me.❞ He nodded once as if making a solid decision. ❝And what is it you do during the day? What sort of schedule will we need to work around?❞

Eve took the handkerchief to her eyes and the man’s words to heart. She was very grateful for them, in a way she was sure she’d never be able to express.

It seemed simple enough. Nothing too far out of her comfort zone that she couldn’t manage. She of course wasn’t taking into account what clothes she’d be wearing but anything too revealing could be dealt with on a case by case basis and again… she needed the money. “When do I start?” Her voice was a little nervous but a little excited. “Oh wait. I have tattoo’s, will that matter? One of them is pretty big.”

❝And, in case you are concerned...❞ He spoke as if reading her mind, which was far out of his scope of abilities. However, he was good at reading people. ❝...The clothes, while fabulous, are things people wear every day in public. I would never ask you to model something with which you are uncomfortable.❞

❝Tomorrow morning, if you’re ready.❞ He grinned. ❝Tattoos? Of course, that’s no problem as long as it’s not inappropriate. Though, you don’t exactly seem like the type. May I see?❞ He questioned always adoring the way people used tattoos to express themselves.

Eve looked up at the man with wide eyes. He was being kind and speaking the truth. “I just…” Eve choked up a bit. “I’m not ready for this,” she whispered as tears threatened to spill. She was scared, terrified of what having powers meant. She’d lost her whole family to the war, she couldn’t be sucked into it now that she was finally healing.

She was shocked by the offer but used it to settle her emotions a bit. “Me? Really?” She bit her lip. Another job could really help her out when the bills came around, but modeling? “What would I be doing?”

Tymm looked her in the eyes and nodded once, pulling a satin handkerchief out of his pocket before placing it in her hand. ❝You don’t have to be. Not yet. It is yours. Take it at your own pace.❞ He nodded once, knowing that the prospect of having abilities was a very difficult subject for many.

Smiling again, he nodded. ❝Well, I’ll have a photo shoot set up and your face will be all about the store, sporting my clothes. And, don’t worry, I have many customers, but they know better than to ask questions about things to which they will receive no answers.❞ He smiled. ❝And, occasionally, when I have a new clothing line... at the beginning of the season or specialty lines for holidays and when disasters strike, you’ll be showing off the new line during my fashion shows.❞

She was about to turn around at his comment and actually leave for the dress barn but when he offered her an ice pack she accepted. “Thank you.” She tried to explain herself. “Sorry I’m just… I’m not a… I mean, I don’t have any…” God could she bring herself to say anything? “I’m just a normal girl. That’s it.”

Again she was taken by surprise. “Modeling? Umm, no I haven’t.”

❝Honey...❞ He stepped closer, lowering his voice. ❝You are so far from normal, but you need to realize that normal is not a bad thing. If you want, we can pretend I don’t have the ability to identify the gifts in others, but that won’t make it go away. It is part of who I am. A part that helps me help people.❞

Stepping back, he shifted his tone and mood. ❝Well, I’ve been in the market for someone to model some of my attire and a gorgeous ginger with expressive eyes and lips like that... well, If you say yes, it would be my lucky day.❞

Eve shrugged, “Whatever you can do to keep my books safe.” She’d accept any additions to it as long as her work was protected.

When he spoke of her powers several things happened at once. First, all the colour drained from her face. Second, a dizzy spell that threatened to send even into a faint began and third, a terrible stutter developed. “My w-what? N-n-no, no I-I… I don’t… I mean, I’m… I’m not….” Her whole plan of dealing with this was to ignore these odd occurrences until the went away. She couldn’t be… she didn’t want to be….

“Work is paying for the bag,” her voice was airy and still touched by her earlier panic.

Tymm looked at the girl with a perked brow, having had similar reactions from customers before. Did they not know what he did for a living. ❝Honey, if you’re going to have an aneurysm, can you maybe go next door into that awful dress barn?❞ He reached into the mini bar behind the counter and grabbed an ice pack that he quickly wrapped in a piece of satin fabric. ❝Here. Should help.❞

He nodded. ❝I was gonna say it’s on the house, but if work is paying, I’ll be sure to charge fairly. Have you ever tried modeling?❞ He studied her for a moment. ❝Just curious.❞

“I don’t pay attention to school sports- or any sports for that matter so I definitely wouldn’t know” Cassie shrugged her shoulders, raising her eyebrows as he continued on “Closet is doing alright I suppose though I think you underestimate by ability to find myself in trouble. But for now it’s holding up fairly well- I was just in the area and figured I’d pop on in and check on the old loser”

❝Well, I wouldn’t exactly expect you to keep up with her team. I mean, she’s eight, so... But anyway. She won’t have parents there, so I’m going and it’s this whole thing and I am not old.❞ He brushed invisible lint from the padded shoulders of his suit. ❝And I do not underestimate that particular ability of yours or I would have made the fabric of your clothes so very sturdy. Perhaps, you simply underestimate my genius.❞

Eve’s blush worsened as she was critiqued. She wasn’t sure want to say, she dressed in what she had which wasn’t much.

“Yes, I umm…. I was told you could make waterproof clothing. I was wondering if you could make a bag like that or a satchel. I just need something durable.” With her inconsistency with her own five senses and the last incident she had involving sudden blindness and a speeding car, Eve thought it best to protect any of the books she worked on while they moved from the library to her home.

❝Water proof? Are you sure that’s all you want, honey? I can do more than that, you know. But if all you want is a bag, I will certainly make it the best bag you’ve ever had.❞ Tymm paused. ❝Also, you must know that I sense abilities and yours is absolutely fascinating.❞ Studying her clothing a bit further, he noted how it was a bit worn. ❝What is your budget?❞

“I’m not judging your attire. I’m judging you for sitting on your bathroom floor, which really needs to be swept.” The man muttered as his eyes wandered over the bathroom floor, shoe dragged along the ground for a second before his attention snapped back towards the man with…whatever he was wearing. “But while we’re at it — the fuck is that?”

❝Hm... Seems that my genius still fails to be recognized by the masses.❞ He sighed and pulled himself from the floor into a standing position. With a huff, he explained himself, something of which he’d never been entirely fond. ❝It’s a customer’s big game today, this is the mascot, Mr. Shakes. It’s this whole thing.❞

Cassie, for a moment, looked appalled by the elders words. Her eyes travelled down to the lazy, oversized t-shirt and jogging pants, though, and she nodded in agreement. It wasn’t the prettiest outfit but she had training soon “You have a cartoon bull on your head. I don’t think this is worse than that” she laughed “What are you even doing?”

❝There is a mini conduit that I make dresses for. This is her school’s mascot and she’s the star quarterback of her little football team... I use the term star lightly as they don’t have much of a following.❞ He sighed, and studied her. ❝Made any big messes lately? How is the closet fairing through all this? Need something new, because surely you will not have destroyed anything I’ve made just yet.❞

“I wasn’t judging you, I….” She halted her train of thought. “Wait- what’s wrong with my outfit?” She looked down at her cardigan and floral skirt.

Tymm perked a brow at her as if to say really? ❝If you have to ask, you’re worse off than I thought, honey. That shade of red combined with the red of your hair, lips, and ever growing blush is far too much.You are a beautiful woman, throw some contrast in there. Don’t be afraid to draw some attention to your face.❞ He narrowed his eyes. ❝Fascinating... And what do you need today as far as clothing goes. Having any difficulties?❞ He began to walk around her, practically measuring her without tape.
