Hello! Can I ask, how did you get your current job? Did you study stage management at uni? I'm considering a career change and am wondering how would be the best way to go about it! Thanks :)
Hi!
Whether or not to study stage management at university is a surprisingly divisive subject. Some people swear by it, and it does give you valuable networks and an opportunity to try out a bunch of stuff you might not get to do otherwise.
Others feel like it's a waste of time and money, because if you can get into stage management without a degree what's the point of having one?
The alternative route is usually to start out as a casual technician at a theatre somewhere. I did that, and eventually gained enough experience to become a full time venue stage tech. From there it honestly depends what you want to do. I was lucky in that I'd made friends (and a good impression) on a touring company who happened to need a Tech Swing.
So the moral of this story is that it's a fluid, flexible industry. Depending where you live and what field of theatre you want to do determines what options you have, really. It's definitely worth contacting your local theatres and finding out if they're taking on new casual staff though!
Hope any of this helped!
Peace out x

Hey! This is just a formal notice that I, frankly, should have put out sooner. Life has taken hold and I lack both the time and the energy to post. I get enthused for a minute here and there and the energy surges back in for a little bit and then just as quickly disappears. And that’s not fair for anyone least of all the really lovely people I’ve gotten to talk to on here. So I’m gonna lock down the blog, let things sit and let myself really think about how I might want to move forward with rping one day.
I might pop in from time for idle commentary, various edits or the rare strike of inspiration to edit a profile or a headcanon but for now I’ve more-or-less disappeared. Thanks to the lovely folks that have played with me thus far and helped me poke and prod and tease out pieces of little ol Misha that even I didn’t anticipate when I first started.
Cheers!

iterare:
Her actual guess was a good one, considering she got the number of his overall weapons. It made him vaguely wonder what she considered his hiding places for weapons to be. “Four at the moment, but if I had my surcoat and sword as well it would be six.” He brought a finger up to his lips jokingly for a moment as he said, “The locations of the weapons will not be confirmed or denied though.”
"Oooh I was close!” Hm, maybe she was actually correct about how she mapped those possible hiding places out? Not that he’d tell her. She fluttered her lashes exaggeratedly and hid a coyly knowing smile behind a hand. “Of course, of course, a knight never tells~.”
Misha let her hand drop with an earnest laugh, sidestepping as if she meant to circle him once more before simply coming to a stop at his side. She clasped her hands together with a plaintive look, a pair of puppy dog eyes Aaron and Eli were far too well-acquainted with. “Exceeept maybe to your favorite student? Pretty please?” Just because it probably won’t work doesn’t mean she can’t try, right?
@facethemusix said: “One hundred!” If you think she’s not counting his embroidery needles you’re wrong.
“Not even close.” He’s pretty sure he knows the reason for the joking answer, but even if he did have his sewing kit with him he wouldn’t have that many needles.
"Oh wow, even more?" She didn't even bother to disguise her amusement, but she would try for a more serious answer this time. Humming, she tapped her chin and idly circled her--currently--favorite embroidery teacher.
(It fluctuated often and only because Eneuavc and Lucan both took turns at being vicious and lovely by halves and, really, who could make up their mind on something like that?)
At last the researcher stopped before him and tilted her head again a sharper smile on her lips. "Six?"
In other news @adastraluminis got me into Godville and I 10000% blame her for the result:
@bitofagremlin
So if you don't mind interacting with a goofball heroine with no sense of decorum and a penchant for sowing chaos wherever she goes come... take a look???
I am beginning, just beginning, to find out who I am.
Gloria Steinem, from “Sisterhood” (via the-final-sentence)
er·rant /ˈerənt/ adjective: errant
Middle English (in errant (sense 2)): errant (sense 2) from Old French errant ‘traveling’, present participle of errer, from late Latin iterare ‘go on a journey’, from iter ‘journey’.
adastraluminis:
“I am going easy on you though.” There was a note of laughter in Cal’s voice as he waited for his student to go and get their sword. His own wood one came up to rest against his shoulder as he continued smiling in amusement. “You really are getting better, it took a whole ten minutes before I disarmed you.”
“There’s no way.” Misha braced her hands on her knees as she struggled to catch her breath. "No way that was ten minutes."
The area they had chosen for practice today was nicely shaded but to say her guardian had put her through her paces was an understatement. It was hot, she was sweaty and no matter how much she fought to keep it secure her long hair kept plastering itself against her neck and face. Still, no matter how much she griped there had been a marked improvement to her overall demeanor since she had begun her lessons. The teenager took one last, fortifying breath before she finally straightened and jogged to retrieve her training sword.
“Besides,” she continued with a scowl that was, really, way more of a pout, “you don’t even look tired.”
Which wasn’t a fair statement by any stretch of the imagination when your teacher was a magic sword whose human form was more of a suggestion than a restriction. Misha approached with an easy gait but, having discarded her glasses earlier, it was clear how she regarded her teacher with hawk-like intensity. And if that alone didn’t make it clear what the teenager was attempting to pull off, Can’s experience was certainly more than a match for one beginner’s shift in stance as she sprung at him with a shout.
LEAD ME TO THE LAND I DREAMED OF! adastraluminis
You’re supposed to be on his side! Traitor!

She’s got no clue what you’re talking about. She’s definitely not feigning ignorance. Nope. Just eating.
A Small Roleplay PSA:
‘Self-insert’ should not be an insult. ‘Original character’ should not be a derogatory phrase. ‘Canon divergent’ should not be a rude remark.
We all have characters we like portraying.
A self-insert portrayal can be good. A canon portrayal can suck. An original character can be amazing. A canon divergent character can be epic. A canon compliant character can be dull.
It does not come down to the character itself.
It comes down to how they are portrayed.
You can have a canon/original/self-insert character and be an ass-hat. You can have a canon/original/self-insert character and be a sweet person.
Stop calling self-inserts bad just because they’re self-inserts. Stop praising canons just because they’re canons. Stop calling out original characters just because they’re original characters. Stop hating on canon divergent characters just because they’re canon divergent.
Take the time to get to know a portrayal before you pass judgement.
Ever heard the phrase ‘don’t judge a book by its cover’?
Energy from this post.
Even more quiet than usual because I had to battle my phone into cooperation and other life stuff came up. I’ll try to get rolling on the weekend but no promises.
On one hand Arthur’s is trying to volunteer the two of us to do a spring tournament like last year. On the other hand I’m sitting here like “Arthur no wtf. I can host a party but I don’t know if I can do a tournament festival…” So here I am admitting to it like a fool b/c let’s face it it was fun & my motivation to actually rp has been low b/c I’ve been bored and dash event might change that so…
1 like = 1 vote in favor of Arthur making me and Kay cry hosting a spring tournament event. Tournaments will include jousting, sword fights, spear fights, archery & a mele battle featuring the hunger games simulator. Shops & games run by muses will also be available as an activity. Yes I have already talked to & gotten permission from Yoko to do a spring Arthurian event using her format from last year should there be enough interest.
