I know y’all didn’t ask but I spent about 70 hours working on this in Procreate, over about four weeks, which may be a record for the longest amount of time and effort I’ve put into art … ever.
But mostly I want to show off some details because tumblr assed the resolution.
I redrew Harding’s hand here about eight times because it kept feeling too big and too small. TBH I think it worked better with the original sketch but then I couldn’t figure out how Lucanis and Lace’s arms would fit into the same space. So this is what we have.
I love her fingers.
The dress has a custom crow brush that I made. The brush didn’t work quite how I wanted so most the crows turned into yellow sparkles. They’re still crows but now they’re gold, for Gold and Glory.
Rook’s outfit was the weirdest because I wanted to reference a few historical pieces I found online vs an in-game outfit. All the gold dangles are supposed to reference coins - for the Lords of Fortune and for the traditional Thai outfits they appear to borrow from. The crow brush appears here again in Rook’s cape.
I also spent two hours copying Rook’s tattoos from in game but then they got masked by Lucanis — lol. The bleeding crown tattoo is on Rook’s right ribs and the wrapped crow tattoo sleeve is on Rook’s left arm.
Lucanis gets the feathered caplet from his in-game armor. I referenced it in a fic (link) as a gift from Rook, so I felt like it should be in the piece. I also gave him some gold accents on his girl-scout sash — I mean sword belts. These are usually silver but I figured it would be a cute nod to his Lords Rook. I also gave him the coin shirt that I started to give Harding— lbr Rook has multiple.
I also redid all of their faces. I typically concede to ADHD and my anime roots, which means everyone gets two line noses, big eyes, and tiny mouths. I tried doing some actual anatomical breakdowns for eye sockets and jaws, here, so this was wildly outside of my comfort zone.
Anywho! Rook/Lucanis/Harding is my Veilguard ship, and they deserve a night out on the town. ✨
