some of y'all wonder why people are reluctant to leave bad communities/social circles, or relapse back into them, and then i see how y'all treat someone who gets out of a bad situation and is trying to heal and it's utterly atrocious

people will be stalked and harassed for months, have their accounts linked back to long-abandoned 'problematic' blogs, and be demonized for views they've disavowed, and for what? what good does it do? genuinely, if someone is trying to improve, what benefit is gained from continued ostracisation?

a lot of this community is under 20. i have personally known people in their 60s still making changes for the better. bad behavior is not some immutable stain on someone's soul. it's easy to find an "other", to justify actions based on morality. it's easy to kick someone who's already down, to insist they'll never improve. it's a search for an easy target, and i think it says more about the ones kicking than it does about the ones on the ground

if someone feels remorse for their actions and is actively trying to be a better person, that is usually more important than what they did in the past. it is not your duty to engage with someone you hate to help them become a better person, but at the very least you can just leave them the fuck alone and not make the situation worse
