The Boy Who Saw Across the Ocean: A fable
There once was a little boy who lived by the ocean. Everyday he would sit beside it in an attempt to see something across. He didnât know what he was looking for but he could just feel in his gut, there was something and it was his destiny to find it. Day after day people would come and ask him, âWhat are you looking for?âÂ
He would simply say, âSomething thatâs waiting for me to find it.â
And the people would always laugh at the boy who didnât know what he was looking for. One day the boy grew up. His father told him that he had spent long enough sitting and waiting for it and that now was time for him to go find it, or give up. His mother begged him to stay so he could be safe, but he could not give up. He spent everything he had to get a little boat and some food for his voyage. When he set sail everyone laughed. In time his mother became a lonely widow and gave up hope of ever seeing her son again. One day a little boy appeared sitting beside the ocean looking across it like the womanâs son once to did. The woman began to rejoice as she thought to herself, âthis is a second chance, with this one I wonât make the mistake of letting him think there is merit to looking across the ocean. This son of mine will stay and I will never be lonely again.â As the woman approached him, someone asked the little boy, âWhat are you looking for?âÂ
âMy father,â replied the boy. As the childâs father, the lost son, walked down from his ship to tell his mother what he found, his son continued, âhe wanted to show me what was across the ocean.â
Best part of the day.
