--> Ask box : open. --> Submissions : open. --> Currenly reviewing : 4. Hello and welcome to fairytailocreviews! As this blog's title suggests it, the purpose of it is to review your OCs, and answer more minor questions as well. ~Sunny
You must have noticed that there has been no activity on this blog for quite some time.
Well, this post is an update and an announcement at the same time.
You see, my personal life hasn't been going too well recently. And then I had a loss not too long ago as well, just to really put me through some tough shit -- but I don't want to expand on that.
The somewhat good news is that I have been seeing a therapist, and things are starting to go back uphill.
But, said therapist wants me off the computer for awhile. I don't know how long, but long enough for me to have to put this blog on a permanent hiatus, so you can move on with your lives without having to check on tumblr every now and then for an eventual comeback that might never come.
Don't worry, my therapist is aware of this blog and thinks that it's a good idea to properly finish things before moving on, so I will definitely clear the ask box and the reviews.
If anyone feels like helping, send me an ask and I will gladly grant your wish :)
Ah hello! So I made an OC recently, and uh, I want to give her Dragon Slayer Magic. I was thinking Storm Dragon Slayer, but is.. Would that be too OP'd? And is it a bad idea to make a Dragon Slayer? Sorry, I'll shut up now. Thanks for the help!
Making a Dragon Slayer isn’t bad in itself, but it can become bad very quicly.
I'm trying to make an oc who is born in a family who doesn't appreciate magic, but he always seems to admire the fantasia festival every time it occurs and wanted to be a mage since then. My question is, can he learn magic from some guild master? Or does it just happen? Or do you think i should just change his history?
My own OC has pretty much the same background, and learned her magic from a book she bought.
Of course, your OC can learn from a master, but I don’t think the magic can just happen, especially if he comes from a non-mage family.
What do you think of smoke manipulation? My oc uses smoke manipulation magic. He may compress it and release it in blasts, but his main focus of attack is Smoke make. He can use different kinds, such as stink smoke, explosive or inflammable smoke, poisonous smoke, asphyxiant smoke, sleep smoke etc. However, it seems to take up a lot of his stamina and energy so he's really careful with it.
I don’t see any problem with that, but be careful on the “make” part.
Molding magic involves tangible elements like wood, ice, stone, etc.
You should probably just stick with the different smokes part rather than over-complicating things.
Greetings! I wish to ask you of your opinion on a matter many FT Reviewers take extremely and almost stupidly seriously. What im talking about is a Dragon Slayer (or just any magic user) uses the same element and/or magic as an existing char. I find this strange, because it has been shown that more than one dragon of each element exists. so what stops several fire dragons from training slayers? i don't know, i just want a second opinion on this. I just think some hate too much on this subject :/
I will talk for only myself, and not on behalf of everyone.
It’s true that more than one dragon exists of each element, and that is a fact that I acknowledge.
What I don’t like about the concept is not that fact alone, it’s what it represents.
You see, if an author has this fact in mind, it’s very easy to become lazy about it, and sacrifice originality because of that. “Why should I try to be original if I can just copy the same element as another character?” is what a lot would think about.
On top of that, it can cruelly undermine a canon character to do so. For example, if there was another Sky Dragon Slayer, Wendy would lose a lot of what makes her unique. Same goes for just about every other Dragon Slayer.
It’s a quite sensitive topic, but that’s my honest opinion on it. For me, logic and facts in a fandom can become a poisoned gift if it makes authors sacrifice their originality over laziness.
Of course, I’m not saying this and just assuming everyone who does it thinks that way. But that’s just how I feel about it overall.
Hi Sunny I'm the bows and arrows/ lightning oc again. I was thinking that instead of lightning it could be more like static electricity, mostly controlled by her emotions. When she gets mad and touches someone or something metal then it shocks her, but usually she can barely make a spark. Maybe she tried to teach herself/ get stronger but couldn't get anywhere so she gave up, and later learned her bows and arrows requip without the natural ability (unlike Erza). Does that sound alright?
It sounds plausible, but I would leave it at just a spark and nothing more, since she’s learning another magic on top of it.
I've been trying to decide on my OCs magic I want him to join fairy tail and have a magic where something fights for him instead of being on the front lines but I don't wanna undermine Lucy with celestial spirits Do you have any suggestions?
I have said this time and time again.
In my mind, Celestial Spirit magic should be the only summoning magic in Fairy Tail, period.
Simply trying to create another summoning magic would undermine a Celestial Spirit mage like Lucy.
If I have an oc with phasing magic, would giving them another magic make them too overpowered? If so, what's an offensive way phasing magic can be used?
You’re going to have to be a little more precise on what you mean by “Phasing” if you want me to help you!
Could my transformation mage have something special called "Elemental Application" ? It adds a certain element to a selected animal transformation (Ex: Fire Cat) and it just adds some resistance and boosts attacks a bit? I don't know if this would work but ty for helping~ <3
I’m pretty sure it couldn’t really work out, as adding elements to transformations include two magics : if we take your example, you need Transformation magic for the cat, and Fire magic to boost attacks.
Now if you multiply it, for example a Water Horse, You would be adding another magic, Water. You would be at three magics, and so on.
Unless you concentrate on only one element and stick to it for all of your transformations, I don’t see how this could work out without your OC becoming some kind of OP elemental overlord…
So I have an idea for an OC I got the idea from one of the minor characters Mikey Chickentiger. He would be partnered with a magic dog named fenrir who can turn into a large wolf to fight with him the mage himself would know gravity change is that ok
Partnering up with an animal isn’t a problem.
But, Gravity change is a rather powerful magic. If paired with an animal, I’m worried that it could become OP.
You could inspire yourself from Mikey once again, by having your OC prefer hand-to-hand combat or weapon combat.
I'm considering giving my OC the Fairy Glitter spell power. Is this a good or bad idea? Is it a spell that's exclusive to Cana? What would be a realistic way for my OC to obtain Fairy Glitter?
Don’t forget that Fairy Glitter was lent only twice to Cana by the First Master. The first time was to help save fellow guildmates, and the second was for her to win the MPF challenge in the Grand Magic Games. Mavis even said this exact line : “I’m lending it to her just tihs once… So she can win.”
With that line in mind, it’s plausible to say that even Cana can’t use it anymore, since Mavis won’t lend it to her in the future.
So in my mind, it’s completely impossible for another person to obtain Fairy Glitter, especially if you were intending on making it a permanent thing.
I don't know where to place my OC's Guild mark! Help?
You can place it anywhere on your OC’s body, it doesn’t really matter where unless you’d like for it to be symbolic. In that case, sorry, I can’t really be of help :/
I've been planning on make my main Fairy tail oc an Earth Dragon slayer. Who ever she was not raise by a dragon but her farther was. He in turn taught her the magic. I'd like to know if it's possible for a Dragon slayer to teach another person dragon slayer magic.
Honestly, that’s a really good question. Your guess is as good as mine on this.
But since it hasn’t been confirmed in canon, I’d be careful with it just the same.
For the hating Dragon Slayer Magic anon: Mard Geer seems to hate/dislike dragon slayer magic, so I think it would be okay. And sorry for making your ask box full Sunny, I don't want to add more to your to do list and put more pressure on you D:
Review done by Clover (ask-happy-sama), for chiliechii : Sugarplum
Aaahhh I finally got the courage to submit my oc! Anyway, what I’m a little doubtful on is her personality because I feel her traits aren’t balanced enough so hopefully you can make some suggestions. Also I am the anon that asked for your opinion about a mage who’s requip is focused on glove like armor/gauntlets; I don’t want anyone to think I stole the idea. Thank you in advanced~! u v u
Name: Sugarplum
Nickname(s): Sugar
Age: 12 (pre-time skip), 19 (post time skip)
Guild: Fairy Tail
Mark: (orange) located above her left breast
Hair Color: Light brown
Eye Color: Dark brown
Relatives: Evergreen (sister)
Everything here seems okay. Be careful; being related to canon characters can be tricky to pull off.
Personality: Sugar is very loyal; even when Ever had little interaction Sugar still cared deeply for her and never once held any hatred or resentment. Always full of energy, Sugar is exuberant and loves a good adrenaline rush. She is very affectionate to those she holds dear to, Ever being the one where most of her affection is focused on. Her complex over Ever causes her to be extremely jealous when she feels her sister’s love is towards someone besides herself. Being clingy is another result of her sister complex over Ever.
You could make this a little better; she is her own person, and she needs to be a little more that way.
Likes: Evergreen, candles
Dislikes: Caves
That was awfully short; it would be nice if you could adapt that more.
Relationships:
Evergreen- Sugar had always been in Ever’s shadow. When Ever first joined Fairy Tail, the two were distant. Ever was always with the Thunder God Tribe leaving Sugar all alone. It wasn’t until after the events of Laxus’ attempt to take over the guild that the two once again became close. Because of the years of little interaction, Sugar has developed a severe sister complex; always hugging her arms or being over dramatic whenever Ever comes back from a job.
Freed Justine- As a child Sugar had always admired the mage and even developed a school girl crush on him when he became more social with the guild. Upon his return, her feelings have resurfaced and evolved into more than just a ‘school girl crush’. She likes to tease him by calling him a ‘house wife’ due to his show of loyalty/affection towards Laxus (and his talent for cooking).
Bixlow- Her partner in fun; When Sugar wants to have fun he is the man she turns to. He is the one that stops Sugar from ‘cockblocking’ Elfman and Ever.
Laxus Dreyar- Before the Fantasia events Sugar respected and feared Laxus. Now that his true colors are shown, only the respect remains.
Bisca Connell- Sugar learnt requip magic from Bisca. Because of being her ‘student’ for a couple years, Sugar greatly looks up to her and even considers her a second sister.
Asuka Connell- Despite being an adult, Sugar doesn’t mind playing make believe, tag, or any other childish games with Asuka. Sometimes she is the one that babysits the girl whenever her parents are out on a job.
Elfman Strauss- Even though she respects Elfman, Sugar can’t help but be on her toes whenever he and Ever are in the same room. She gets incredibly jealous whenever he and Ever are doing anything together which causes her to ‘cockblock’ the two. (Note: she does know when to back down; for example after the match with Elfman and Bacchus, Sugar did not get overly jealous when Ever was staying by his side and whatnot)
This seems very nice. I find it a bit interesting that she is paired with Freed (or so it seems). I also like how Bixlow is her partner in fun; it is much like his personality to be so. Her relationship with Bisca is very good; it seems like something Bisca would do and it adds to the character.I am okay with her relationship with Elfman, but I dislike the word ‘cockblock’. And I do like when she is able to back down.
Magic:
Flashing Eyes- Upon eye contact, target’s vision becomes blurry for a certain amount of time (30 seconds in pre-time skip then 60 seconds post-time skip)
Requip: The Brawler- Like many requip users, Sugar is able to store magical weapons in a pocket dimension. In her case she specializes in magical gauntlets
Gaia’s Gauntlets- increases Sugar’s attack power and strength
Fairy Gauntlets- allows Sugar to fly and fire concentrated fairy dust magic through her fists
Lightning Gauntlets- lightning magic, close range attacks only
Flame Gauntlets- fire magic, close range attacks only
Bio: Before actually joining Fairy Tail, her and Ever had a close relationship. Ever would always spin stories about Fairies and how much she wanted to be one leaving Sugar in awe and amazement. However, as time passed Ever become more stuck-up and arrogant. After joining the guild, Ever paid little attention to Sugar due to developing a resentment towards Erza and becoming apart of the Thunder God Tribe. This left Sugar utterly depressed, she was too afraid to approach her sister and unwillingly watched her from the side lines. Thankfully, after the events of the Fighting Festival, her relationship with Ever improved.
This seems good. I thought Flashing Eyes was unnecessary until I read the rest of the Bio; I like how her magic is throughly explained. It adds a lot to her character.
Upon learning the disappearance of the guild members in Tenrou, Sugar was devastated along with the others. 6 months after the incident Sugar had taken a job from a village that requested help from a rampaging bear. After nearly being severely injured from the bear, she managed to kill the animal by letting it fall off a cliff. This incident made her realize that her Flashing Eyes magic wasn’t enough; she wanted to learn offensive magic. At first she wanted to learn Fairy magic just like Ever but she had no one to teach her. After talking with Bisca about her revelation, she offered Sugar to teach her requip in which she agreed.
When the Tenrou group returned Sugar bawled her eyes out and clung onto Ever until they had to go to bed.
Trivia:
She chose to have her guild mark on her left breast because of the fact that Ever’s guild mark is on her right breast
Before the time skip, she too lived in Fairy Hills. After the Tenrou disappearance, Sugar tried her best to help pay everyone’s rent including her own but ultimately failed.
Very good. This is a well developed character, and the extra trivia is a nice touch. I would rate it 8.4/10; it just needs some extra touches.
